The wonderfully-monikered Hoodie Allen is a rising star in hip-hop, and based on his reworking of ‘NY Is Killing Me’, it’s not hard to see why. Originally by Gil Scott-Heron and remixed by Jamie xx, Hoodie Allen’s fast-flowing lyrics fill the atmospheric soundscapes with a sense of urgency and passion as he tells his tales of love and hate set against the backdrop of New York. Sick beats power this reworking and will make it sure-fire club hit. The second track off his forthcoming mixtape ‘Leap Year’ (the brilliant ‘Dreams Up’ being the first) prove Hoodie Allen’s skills as a producer and rapper, making him an exciting new talent on the scene.
