Normal teenagers are usually busy slaving away at fast food joints and retail stores, but Sky Ferreira wasn’t what you would call normal: at 15, she signed a major record label deal. After working on her craft and releasing songs like “Red Lips” and “Lost In My Bedroom” to some success, her latest dance-pop single “Everything Is Embarrassing” could be the sparkling gem that puts her front and center. Produced by Blood Orange‘s Dev Hynes and Ariel Rechstaid (Cass McCombs, Usher), the track features an infectious electro beat coupled with simple, but charming piano chords. The highlight is the chill, catchy chorus, where Ferreira’s vocals are soothing, but so telling — gliding smoothly somewhere between a restrained wistfulness and powerful emotion — making the song as much a ballad as it is a dance-worthy tune.
