“Bloom” rushes in immediately with pounding beats and the sound of heavy breathing, the perfect way to begin what will become an immensely satisfying song. Australia’s Gypsy & The Cat channel glossy ’80s synths and their sound is reminiscent of a nicely balanced mesh of MGMT and Tame Impala, but really, the most important aspect of the duo is their legitimate understanding of how to do pop right. In fact, they nail it. “Bloom” is one hell of a catchy head-turner and I wouldn’t be surprised if it helped to make some stateside waves really soon.
