Real Peach
Burlington-based Henry Jamison has us really tied up. At times, he calls on associations of classic storytellers like Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash. Other times, he reminds us of endearing country songs that blare out of rickety bar speakers at any number of dusty dive bars across the contiguous United States. Regardless of what box we try to put him in, we know one thing for certain. There have been tens of thousands of people with great voices behind an acoustic guitar, a few plucks from a banjo, and a soft kick drum. Not all of them can keep your attention past a few minutes. But, Henry? He’ll stay with you long after this song ends.
“Real Peach” has a warm, comfortable feeling. Lyrically, it’s a song that you can’t help but give in to, even if you’re not the “sing-along” type. We most certainly are, so we quickly found ourselves murmuring the chorus through a beaming grin.
even when the night come crashin’ down
real peach
and the nighttime rolls away, alright
and we’re comin’ back to the demon-killing work of love
(my god)
