American multi-instrumentalist (and touring member of Arcade Fire) Colin Stetson is certainly ambitious. Luckily, he has bags of talent to more than match this ambition. ‘Fear of The Unknown and The Blazing Sun’ features spoken-word pieces from Laurie Anderson and Shara Worden, and grows into a pulsating, slightly unsettling yet epic track that contains echoes of dance music. The Dark Lights remix of the outstanding ‘The Stars In His Head’ creates a whirring, squalling soundscape that transports the mind and truly bewitches the listener. Colin Stetson makes music that some people would brand ‘challenging’, but ignoring these tracks based on that label would mean missing out on a truly interesting artist. ‘Fear of The Unknown and The Blazing Sun’ and ‘The Stars In His Head (Dark Lights Remix)’ are featured on the album ‘New History Warfare Vol.2: Judges’, out on worldwide digital release from Constellation Records.
