Techno producer, and “Queen of the Underground” Nicole Moudaber is getting set to release her debut LP Believe in a few days on Drumcode. Us lucky ninjas were sent the advance stream, and we couldn’t think of a better way to get the ball rolling this Thursday. Totaling nine tracks, Believe is fit for a number of moods and settings. Featured is her patented techno sound, but a plethora of other styles as well, from tech-house to the deeper end and more in between. With such an ambitious release, Miss Moudaber has arranged a complete piece of work that puts all of her considerable studio skill at the forefront of the underground movement.
The album’s opener, a percussive, synth-heavy record “Lumière Tamisée” brings us down to earth before blasting back off on an iridescent listening journey with an expressive cascade of rhythm in “Movin’ On”. No doubt, some tracks were aimed squarely at the dance-floor like the pounding cut “Come and Lay” which includes an asymmetric vocal sample from the woman herself sprinkled all over an industrial techno groove, to the magnetic and bass heavy “Do Your Thing”. Techno afficionados and casual fans alike will be able to find some piece of Believe that will feel like their own. Nicole further displays her production chops on a few more intimate cuts to round out the long-player; the entrancing vibes of “Fly With You” and the uplifting “Liberium Spirita”.
Believe is a consummate body of work with which Nicole’s considerable abilities in the studio are clear for all to hear. A wide-range of sounds that is sure to appeal to the overly idiosyncratic tastes of the various reaches of the electronic music community. Furthermore, it lives up to the high-standards of previous Drumcode albums and is an engrossing and impressive debut; not to mention one which offers a smooth segue into the next chapter of an already exciting career.
