The Hip-Hop Dojo [Vol. 6]

Sorry for the delay this week folks. I had some unforeseen issues with my computer, which had me out of service for a few days. No need to worry though, because the Hip-Hop Dojo still lives on stronger than ever. To compensate for my tardiness, I’ve assembled the largest collection of music we’ve ever had for volume six. While I won’t be able to go into too much detail for this round, please note that there’s something here for everybody. Considering that last Saturday was 4/20, you know we definitely have a steady lineup of stoner anthems for you out there. From Odd Future’s Domo Genesis to longtime cardholder Redman, everybody was caught discussing the notorious green bud last weekend. We’ve also got a couple of bangers in here as well, with “94” by Kings Dead (formerly known as The Dean’s List) possibly being the standout track of the week. Additionally, quite a few artists make multiple appearances in this edition. Among them are notable names like Mac Miller, Kami de Chukwu, Los, and The White Mandingos, an alternative hip-hop band featuring the talents of Murs, Darryl Jennifer and Sacha Jenkins. Hope you guys really enjoy this edition of the Hip-Hop Dojo. As always, send all submissions and suggestions to baseer@themusicninja.com. Peace.

[Rap] 2 Chainz – Birthday Song (Bugatti Boys RMX)” Ft. Diddy and Rick Ross

Ross & Diddy are back at it again and this time toss the keys to 2 Chainz‘s “Birthday Song.” The already famous single from Titty Boi’s “Based on a T.R.U. Story” is updated with two verses that even leave Kanye looking cheap. Weeks after its release the song makes a comeback with the heavyweights refreshing the Sonny Digital production. Happy twenty-first to my bro Phil, someone get this kid a big booty hoe tonight.

[LIST] Hip-Hop Cash Kings: The Richest Rappers

Forbes recently released a list of 2012’s hip-hop “Cash Kings,” ranking the rap world’s top earners. Snagging the #1 spot was Dr. Dre, who wrangled up a whopping $110 million — half of which can be attributed to his Beats by Dre headphone brand. The West Coast producer and emcee was joined by #2 Diddy (buoyed by his Ciroc vodka), #3 Jay-Z (his money raked in from number of places, like the Brooklyn Nets) and #4 Kanye (reaping much of the benefits from Watch The Throne). Eminem, who hasn’t exactly been a popular face for corporate endorsements and sponsorships, still placed at #9, bolstered by his music, selling more albums in the last 10 years than any artist. What are your thoughts, ninjas?

1. Dr. Dre – $110 million
2. Diddy – $45 million
3. Jay-Z – $38 million
4. Kanye West – $35 million
5. Lil Wayne – $27 million
6. Drake – $20.5 million
7. Birdman – $20 million
8. Nicki Minaj – $15.5 million
9. Eminem – $15 million
10. Ludacris – $12 million

[Mashup] Steve Angello vs. Diddy Dirty Money – Knas Is Coming Home (Marco V Mashup)

Dutch producer Marco V has taken 2 huge tracks and seamlessly mashed them up – resulting in a corker of a mix that will be getting a lot of play over the summer. Featuring Swedish House Mafia giant Steve Angello and the vocals from the trio Diddy Dirty Money, the original drop is replaced with Angello’s bass pounding track – ‘Knas’.

Bit of background on Marco V because, ashamedly, I had never heard of him!. He gained his reputation back in 1996 as the resident Friday night DJ at De Danssalon, a bad ass massive club in Eindhoven and he’s continued to produce some huge tracks under his label TAO Recordings. Calvin Harris recently dropped this track in one of his sets, affirming his support for our newly found Dutch friend.

[Mash Up] Kaskade, Diddy Dirty Money, & Dirty South – Coming Home at 4AM (Kaskade Mash Up)

Kaskade

Kaskade’s “4 A.M.” is easily my favorite song of his. Something about Becky Jean Williams’ soft voice as she coos over the lyrics just does it for me. I would always play that song on the way home from the club, venue, dj set etc.because it’s such a nice way to end the evening on a soft and sweet beat (and I know I’m not alone on this). I think Kaskade took that into consideration, mashing up 4AM with Diddy Dirty Money’s “Coming Home.” Not only do the two conceptually and lyrically work, Kaskade made magic throwing in an funky beat and a crazy build-up to go with it.
