[New] Arcade Fire – Afterlife (Flume Remix)

Arcade Fire
Afterlife (Flume Remix)

It’s been a crazy ride for Australia’s wunderkind Flume, and by now, you should be familiar with the man and his music. The young producer has been coasting through the festival circuit with sets at Palm Springs’ Splash House and San Francisco’s Outside Lands this past weekend. Today, Flume, who is also one half of What So Not, has dropped a new remix, and it’s a stunner.

Arcade Fire track “Afterlife” gets the Flume fix, resulting in a rework with a hazy tinge to it. Flume’s “Afterlife” remix is considerably more mellow than his previous work, but he manages to orchestrate the track in a way where the beat’s sublime sound is the focal point, but does not compromise or upstage the original’s vocals.

Buzzing opinions appear to be less than favorable for Flume’s latest piece, but it’s undeniable that the man is talented. We’re interpreting the direction of this remix as an indication that the his sound is constantly fluctuating and evolving, but only time will tell us what he’s got up his sleeve.

[Mashup] Flume – Insane (Feat. Kanye West) (White Panda Vocal Edit)

Insane (White Panda Vocal Edit)

Mashups can be a tricky art to master, and while we’ve become much more open to the idea of them in recent months, we still tend to approach them with a certain amount of skepticism. However, when you come across a song that features two of the most brilliant musicians in the world, it’s impossible to ignore. Geniuses that they are, The White Panda have taken it upon themselves to blend together the insanity of Kanye West with Flume‘s hit single, “Insane.” Utilizing verses from “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” Kanye’s defiant boasts operate well over the elaborate, pulsating synthwork, while Moon Holiday‘s yearning background vocals seem to add a heightened sense of wistfulness and provide even more weight behind the lyrics. After listening to the track, we started to wonder what a true collaboration between these two gifted artists would actually sound like. Can someone get them in the studio together ASAP?

Download the single above, and stay tuned for more from The White Panda, as they plan to drop a new song every day this week.

Drop The Game

A little collaboration, boys?
Flume and Chet Faker teamed up to release ‘Drop the Game’, a fabulous song that shows off the talents of both Australian electronic artists. With the laid-back feel that many of Flume’s songs embrace, Faker adds a little of a jazz/indie sound with electronic melodies. The male vocals throughout the song are casual yet strong, again holding a laid-back feeling. These two artists keep changing the name when it comes to electronic music, putting their own spin and tastes into everyone of their songs and showing the music industry where the future of electronic music is always moving for the better.

Holdin On Feat. Freddie Gibbs

If you somehow thought Flume‘s “Holdin On” couldn’t get any better, you would be very mistaken. Seemingly coming straight out of left field with this one, the Aussie producer has teamed up with Freddie Gibbs for a hip-hop tinged remix of his standout track that’s sure to please. Gangsta Gibbs undoubtably holds his own on the mic, providing a well crafted verse over the atmospheric, synth-powered instrumental.

Flume is redefining the word “deluxe” with the re-issue of his self-titled album, set for release through Mom + Pop on December 10th. The four-disc set will include the original album, a rap mixtape, a collection of Flume remixes, a tour documentary, some stems, and according to Pitchfork, a “Producer Disc with Ableton Live 9 Lite software.” Altogether, that comes out to be one hell of a package. Those unwilling to wait for the physical release however, can get themselves a digital copy on November 12th.

[Remix] Flume – Sleepless ft. Jezzabell Doran (Manila Killa Remix)

Sleepless (Manila Killa Remix)
Flume Feat. Jezzabell Doran

21 year old electronic Wunderkind, Flume, has seen his proverbial stock soar to unimaginable heights since an assemblage of his singles went viral in late 2011, the ultra success of his debut album hitting number-one in his native Australia (recently ousting One Direction as a matter of fact) and specifically, the gargantuan success of “Sleepless” featuring vocals from Jezzabel Doran. Since charting one of our favorite purely electronic albums of 2012 with a self-titled LP, “Sleepless” has proven to be a track with which an absurd amount of producers have gotten their hands on the stems and remixed to a near coma. Normally a remix of “Sleepless” wouldn’t grab hold of our Ninja attention span, but today’s offering from D.C. by way of the Phillipines producer Manila Killa, was a production begging not to be overlooked. Quite the eclectic remixer, Manila Killa has touched up a number of contrasting bands and producers. From Coldplay to Chromeo to The xx and now Flume, this young beat savant has shown quite an affinity for the remix game, breathing new life into every one of his impeccable selections. Manila Killa comes at “Sleepless” from a picturesque, “Nu-Gaze” angle and has delivered one of the most pure and catchiest remixes of the Aussie’s classic tune. Download the track, for the price of a ‘Facebook Like’ here, and be on the lookout for more hot sauce from Manila Killa in the not-so-distant future.
