Exploding onto the scene this past year, the DJ duo TNGHT, comprised of Lunice and Hudson Mohawke, flip the infectious Waka Flocka Flame banger “Rooster in My Rari”. Although part of this remix was released earlier this summer, the full version finally leaked to the interwebs. Stripping the original beat, the duo add a trap rip and heavy bass that completely encompasses the turnt up feel of the original.

[Hip-Hop] Kami de Chukwu – Light (Mixtape)
After several impressive leaks, Chicago-based Kami de Chukwu, of the SaveMoney collective, released his debut mixtape a few days ago catapulting himself onto the radar of many open-minded hip-hop fans. Through out Light, Kami showcases a wide range of lyrical ability experimenting and growing along the way. With a diverse collection of original and classic production ranging from J Dilla to Hudson Mohawke to Nosaj Thing, there is bound to be something for all music listeners on this tape. On some tracks, such as “Manifest” and “Ig’Nant,” Chukwu comes off dark and cunning, while on cuts like “Prey” and “Red Rover” he shows a more pensive and laid back side. Light is a courageous first effort as the beat selection is lightyears from conventional. However, Chukwu pulls it off nearly flawlessly with the help of some fellow Chi-town reps.
Lights is an essential project for hip-hop fans and really anyone fascinated by the blurring of genre lines. Stream some of our favorite tracks below and download the whole tape free here: Kami de Chukwu – Light.

[Trap/Hip-Hop] Flosstradamus – BANNED (Mix)
Last night, after being banned by the CPD from the Mad Decent Block Party in their hometown of Chicago, Flosstradamus dropped a 30-minute, groundbreaking monster of an electro-trap/hip-hop mix via their Twitter bringing us one step closer to the inevitable integration of the two styles. The Fool’s Gold duo incorporate a wide variety of the hardest hitting hip-hop tracks, from Juicy J‘s stripclub anthem “Bands a Make Her Dance” to Slim Thug’s classic verse from “Still Tippin” to Kanye West‘s “Mercy”(on which electro-trap producer Hudson Mohawke was actually credited with “additional instrumentation”), accompanied by the heaviest electronic sounds and percussion out.
Including some unreleased tracks from their upcoming album X☢ and drawing from a number of other notable producers in their niche, Flosstradamus has provided us with an unbelievable musical outline highlighting the collision course of these two genres. B⚠NNED, along with the recent release of the TNGHT EP and reemergence of artists like Juicy J and 2 Chainz, is just the beginning of a new brand of trap music that has the potential to be enormous. One of my favorite moments comes around the 22nd minute when they incorporate their “Pop That” remix to Major Lazer‘s “Original Don,” merging the dancehall-type vocals flawlessly with French Montana‘s anthem.
The first single from X☢ , “UNDERGR☢UND ANTHEM,” is due out on August 18th and the project is looking to be a milestone ushering in an exciting era for electronic music. This requires the highest volume and will likely induce raging upon pressing play. Shortly after releasing B⚠NNED the talented producers tweeted, “there’s something extra tight about giving out music this way.. directly to y’all from us. feels right.” Word up.

Stream: TNGHT – (Hudson Mohawke x Lunice)
The evolution of music almost feels like an paradox as it is obvious that it will always change, no matter what happens. But there are specific milestones in music that I feel are very important to note. With the way our brains works, we tend to always remember new experiences and what Hudson Mohawke and Lunice bring today, is much more than a new experience. Breaking the bridges between two distinctive genres once again, they give birth to an exceptional sound of hip/hop and electronics.
The highly anticipated upcoming collaborative TNGHT EP, is finally out today July 23th (UK) and you can stream below. Please support buy getting it off iTunes.
TNGHT (Hudson Mohawke x Lunice) – Higher Ground
Following the release of “Bugg’n”, from the eclectic duo comprised of electronic wonderboy Hudson Mohawke (from Glasgow) and Mad Decent’s super producer Lunice, comes a massive track from their upcoming collaborative TNGHT EP, out July 27th.
I have to apologize for ever using the word “massive” on previous posts. “Higher Ground” is an enormous feat of hard hitting swagged out horns, marching claps, technical drum play and a vocals manipulation that extend far beyond the infectious.
“Higher Ground” can be pre-ordered via Bleep and will be out out July 23/24 on Warp x LuckyMe.
