After the critical and commercial success of Sideline Story, it has been awhile since we heard some new heat from the Carolina rapper J.Cole. Fortunately, Jay’s protege hits the webs with an extended version of his Fabolous collaboration track “Louis Vuitton,” off the Soul Tape 2 mixtape. The self-produced song features some bonus bars from the Roc Nation emcee and continues the same theme of leaving a materialistic lady obsessed with labels and clothes. Be sure to peep the track below and continue the buzz for Cole’s upcoming sophomore album Born Sinner, dropping January 28th.
[Hip-Hop] J. Cole – Miss America
On the first single from his highly anticipated upcoming album, Roc Nation’s J. Cole, comes hard. “Miss America” serves as both a homage and scolding of these beautiful United States of America. Cole produces a dark, fitting instrumental over which he spits consciously, and at times angrily, delivering his own State of the Union. As a young emcee of the highest caliber, the North Carolina native demonstrates his insight and intensity exuding the maturity of a seasoned veteran.
Stream this charged, and powerful, portrayal of the Cole World below, and make sure to show some support when the single hits iTunes tomorrow. Cole’s second studio album, Born Sinner, is due out January 28th. Mark your calendars.
[NEW] Kendrick Lamar – The Jig Is Up (Dump’n) (Prod. J. Cole & Canei Finch)
Kendrick Lamar has been absolutely killing the rap game. His debut album with Interscope Records, Good Kid m.A.A.d. City, is already being hailed a classic and generation-defining piece of work. The first week numbers came in today and with an impressive 242,122 units sold, Lamar’s critical success has clearly been also met by approval from the masses.
In the past, Kendrick has mentioned that him and fellow rising star, Roc Nation’s J. Cole, have been working on a collaborative project. Cole’s producing and rapping chops have been repeatedly proven, and his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, was easily one of the strongest of 2011. Today, Lamar blesses us with a glimpse into what we can expect from this dynamic and incredibly talented duo.
On “The Jig Is Up,” Kdot comes with his harder flow showing off his lyrical ability, unique voice and versatility. Cole World and NYC-based producer, Canei Finch, create a stadium-worthy, epic backdrop. Although J. Cole doesn’t grace the track on the mic, he does speak briefly showing his praise and support for Kendrick. Stream and download this gem below and make sure to grab GKMC on iTunes!
[Remix] J. Cole x Major Lazer – Get Free ColeWorld
Exactly one year from the release of J. Cole‘s stellar debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, he gives us an absolutely awesome remix. I feel like I shouldn’t have to say much to convince you to check out Cole World and Major Lazer on the same track. The North Carolina representer throws some of his so-dope bars over his rendition of the incredibly chill Major Lazer hit, “Get Free.” Enjoy this treat below and look out for J. Cole to take over this year.
[Hip-Hop] J. Cole – I’m A Fool
North Carolina emcee J. Cole is one of the brightest young stars in hip-hop. Last year, the Roc Nation artist dropped a strong debut album, but has remained relatively quite since then leaving many fans eagerly anticipating anything new. After performing this track several times on tour, he finally lets loose the self-produced “I’m A Fool” and it definitely does not disappoint. Backed by a soulful sample and steady drums, Cole spits his cleverly conscious bars with same high level of quality we have come to expect from him. Stream and download this dope new track below and keep an eye out for his upcoming project, Dreamville. Cole world!
[Hip-Hop] Big Sean – Detroit (Mixtape)
Since being signed to G.O.O.D. Music back in 2007, Big Sean has had a steady rise finding mainstream success with out losing his original fan base. Sean has been featured on some of the biggest hip-hop tracks in the last couple of years and, with the help of Kanye West, emerged as a consistently relevant artist. Best known for his witty wordplay and experimental flows, the Detroit native has been a very valuable asset to the G.O.O.D. team. On his latest mixtape, dedicated to his home city, he draws in help from a ridiculous amount of notable names in hip-hop including Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Juicy J and King Chip, just to name a few. With production credits just as impressive, Detroit, will likely be one of the strongest efforts from Big Sean yet.
With G.O.O.D. Music’s highly anticipated Cruel Summer‘s September 18th release date around the corner, this should more than hold fans over. Stream a few notable tracks below and download the whole tape for free here: Big Sean – Detroit (Mixtape).
[Hip-Hop] Lil Wayne – Dedication 4 (Mixtape)
The NOLA-bred Lil Wayne has had quite the absurd and entertaining career path. The Young Money boss known for his wordplay and ridiculous punchlines, is a prolific veteran who has released countless projects, ranging in quality from classic to barely mediocre. Regardless, hip-hop fans will forever keep at least one Weezy project in their regular rotation and, for me, Dedication 3, was definitely that tape. Since then, he has put out plenty of solid music and continued to sell records when most artists can’t all the while pursuing a new hobby in skateboarding. It is hard to know what to expect from Dedication 4, but if it is anything like its predecessor it will certainly be getting lots of airtime among his fans.
