[Hip-Hop] DJ Khaled – They Ready Feat. J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T. & Kendrick Lamar (Prod. J. Cole)

While the last DJ Khaled song focused on hip-hop’s past and the careers of two of its most celebrated artists, this one’s premise is set squarely on the future.  The aptly named “They Ready” features arguably the three best up and coming names in hip-hop: J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T., and Kendrick Lamar.  The song is produced by J. Cole himself and features all three of the young emcees stepping up to the mic and delivering their bars in double time, producing enough energy to power at least two small villages for weeks.  It’s safe to say this is pretty unique for a DJ Khaled track, and it actually had me excited for the direction of his latest album, Kiss The Ring.  Unfortunately though, this song is probably the exception, and not the rule.  Still, this has the potential to be one of his most potent compilations to date.

Look for Kiss The Ring in stores August 21st, and make sure to take a listen to two other recently released tracks from the album down below.

[Hip-Hop] J. Cole – The Cure

Please note if you’ve been suffering from the following symptoms. Do you find your hands trembling as you reach for the dial on the radio every time “Starships” comes on?  Do you feel nauseated every time you hear the term “swag?” Do you find yourself involuntarily “swirving” whenever you’re on the road? If, so then you might be suffering from hip-hop withdrawal. The great news for you though, is that J. Cole has just recently come out with “The Cure.”

The Dream Villain just dropped a brand new freestyle over the “Lift Off” beat, originally graced by his boss, Jay-Z, & his running mate, Kanye West, on last year’s excellent Watch The Throne project (If you haven’t listened to that album yet, there’s no hope for you after all). There’s no indication yet from Cole where this one will live, but you’ve gotta hope another mixtape is in the works, otherwise we might end up with the shakes forever.

J. Cole – Werk Out (OVERWERK Remix)

Taking J. Cole’s words seriously “Don’t over-think, just hope it is right”, OVERWERK takes on the single “Work Out” and transforming into a thrilling gritty electro monster. With so much aggression coming from the dubstep camps, it is ultimately refreshing to have a hard hitting electro banger without the overly drawn out wobbles. Enjoy.

[HOT] J.Cole ft. SD & Childish Gambino – Who Datt Pt 2

I am left speechless with the verses in this track. I know so many people that hate on Childish but his style and mad witty rhymes make him one of my favorite upcoming rappers this year. “Who Datt Part 2″ is from Peter Rosenberg’s latest tape featuring J Cole, SD (Spencer Datt) and Childish Gambino.

[Hip/Hop] Wale – Bad Girls Club Feat. J. Cole

Wale, the Washing born rapper, better known for his singles “Chillin” and “Pretty Girls” will be releasing his forthcoming album, Ambition in a matter of days (July 19th). His first single, Bad Girls Club, is a collaboritve effort with rapper/friend J. Cole producing a bass heavy club friendly track that while its production comes off a bit generic, it it has enough attitude and good vibes to give a listen. Both artist come from an underground grassroots background and in many ways it is great to see them come full circle to work on yet another song.

[Hip/Hop] J. Cole – Premeditated Murder + Blow Up

J.Cole was signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation around the same time Drake inked a deal with Young Money. Cole has been much quieter in the months since, diligently working towards his first album and releasing occasional leaks.

Premeditated Murder is based around an instrumental that would have felt right at home on Reasonable Doubt; lush, but understated like Cole himself. The lyrics describe the Fayetteville-born rapper’s current mindset– one of great expectations but equal uncertainty. He is pensively penning an album that already has a lot of hype around it.

Premeditated Murder is a decent track with a great feel and lyric, but it’s far from being “single material”. We understand J.Cole’s brilliance and level of depth, but he’ll have to come out with something stunning for his October release. If Lights Please is any indication of his upcoming tracks, we have a lot to look forward to. Keep meditating Cole, great things are expected.
