[Trap/Hip-Hop] Flosstradamus – BANNED (Mix)

Last night, after being banned by the CPD from the Mad Decent Block Party in their hometown of Chicago, Flosstradamus dropped a 30-minute, groundbreaking monster of an electro-trap/hip-hop mix via their Twitter bringing us one step closer to the inevitable integration of the two styles. The Fool’s Gold duo incorporate a wide variety of the hardest hitting hip-hop tracks, from Juicy J‘s stripclub anthem “Bands a Make Her Dance” to Slim Thug’s classic verse from “Still Tippin” to Kanye West‘s “Mercy”(on which electro-trap producer Hudson Mohawke was actually credited with “additional instrumentation”), accompanied by the heaviest electronic sounds and percussion out.

Including some unreleased tracks from their upcoming album X☢ and drawing from a number of other notable producers in their niche, Flosstradamus has provided us with an unbelievable musical outline highlighting the collision course of these two genres. B⚠NNED, along with the recent release of the TNGHT EP and reemergence of artists like Juicy J and 2 Chainz, is just the beginning of a new brand of trap music that has the potential to be enormous. One of my favorite moments comes around the 22nd minute when they incorporate their “Pop That” remix to Major Lazer‘s “Original Don,” merging the dancehall-type vocals flawlessly with French Montana‘s anthem.

The first single from X☢ , “UNDERGR☢UND ANTHEM,” is due out on August 18th and the project is looking to be a milestone ushering in an exciting era for electronic music. This requires the highest volume and will likely induce raging upon pressing play. Shortly after releasing B⚠NNED the talented producers tweeted, “there’s something extra tight about giving out music this way.. directly to y’all from us. feels right.” Word up.

[Hip-Hop] Kanye West x Urban Noize – Mr. West

On their latest project, titled Mr. West, Urban Noize has managed to transform Yeezy classics into summertime ballads. There’s a new beat for all the kids to enjoy on this mixtape, from drums to saxophone lines that would have Coltrane jumping out his seat. With choir vocals, covering Radiohead’s Creep, backed by a clean snare drum line, Urban is able to capture Kanye’s Forever verse in a whole new mind set. Urban Noize did a great job at keeping the entire tape smooth and fresh just in time for this hot weather.

Check out a couple standout tracks below and download the whole project free here: Urban Noize x Kanye West – Mr. West.

[Hip-Hop] 2 Chainz – Birthday Song (ft. Kanye West)

2 Chainz, formerly known as Tity Boi, has had quite the interesting come up in the last few months. Although I am still somewhat skeptical, his verse on Mercy put him on my roadmap of artists to follow. He has already worked with Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne, Drake and Curren$y, just to name a few. The College Park native certainly has a unique flow that is raw, unfiltered and full of bravado. At times he delivers flawlessly and at others can come off as almost obnoxious. However, the more you listen, you can’t help but nod your head and feel way cooler than you probably are. When I first heard this in my crappy headphones, I was far from impressed. I am currently on my fifth consecutive listen, turned all the way up on these Bose speakers, with a heavy head nod going. In his verse, Kanye West, who also assisted on the beat, matches the rawness of Deuce, but with the grace and confidence that only he can pull off.

The rise of this kind of coarse, hard-hitting hip-hop is interestingly parallel to that of electronic trap music. A combination of the two styles could be explosive and today’s release of the TNGHT EP further confirms the convergence of the genres. Birthday Song is the second single off 2 Chainz’s upcoming album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, due out on August 14th, and the explicit version can be purchased on iTunes. Don’t listen to this unless you can slap it on full blast.

’Kanye West – New God Flow ft Pusha T’

The G.O.O.D. music camp really never fails to impress me especially when Ye graces the track. On New God Flow, Kanye and Pusha both drop some unbelievable verses over what has recently become the signature hard-hitting G.O.O.D. music sound that just oozes confidence. G.O.O.D. music’s Cruel Summer LP is out August 7th, which can not come soon enough!

Kanye West – MERCY (Figure Remix)

We have seen some pretty monstrous remixes of Kanye West’s the swagger-filled track “Mercy”, by Barbaric Merits and more recently by RL Grime & Salva. The aggressive lyrics paired with the strong and confident wobbles of dubstep are a perfect match for any producer to take advantage of. Well my friends, Figure is not just any other producer, and this is not just any other track.

Figure, Lord of Darkstep, has lowered “Mercy” into his own twisted and demented realm of sharp melodic shadows and destructive haunted basslines to form a being larger than its predecesor with an unsurmountable heavy roar of electronics. If The Music Ninja ever releases a Dictionary, we guarantee that our definition of HEAVY will be:

heav·y [hev-ee]
1. Any fucking track from American dj/producer Figure: See. Mercy Remix
2. of great amount, quantity, or size; extremely large.

Chip Ivory – Get Em High For This (Ellie Goulding x Kanye West)

I guess it was just inevitable. Ellie Goulding released a cover of the Weeknd’s ‘High For This’ last week and naturally, a mash up with Kanye West’s “Get em High” would soon have to follow. Chip Ivory takes the two into a well crafted fusion, enabling Ellie Gouldings vocals to come through as well as featuring verses from Kanye’s original.
