Once Upon a Dream

Viewers of the Grammy’s last night received a little extra during the commercial break. Premiering the second trailer for the upcoming Disney movie Maleficent, Lana Del Rey’s new cover track “Once Upon a Dream” also made its debut. The chilling tune sets a tense mood for the theatrical trailer and Rey’s signature moody voice is a perfect backdrop. Swooning and placing listeners in a trance, the single will be the film’s title track. Telling the story of the classic Grimm fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the “evil sorceress”, the upcoming flick is set to drop May 30th nationwide. We feel that we’re at the point where we can start hearing remixes of this tune again. For a while, it got a little out of hand, as do a lot of a tracks that hit the blogosphere and blow up. While a lot of you will hear numerous remixes on tracks like these, we can assure you that we hear many, many more. Blogger issues aside, Lana’s sultry Americana-rich vocals are perfect remixing material.

Now that some time has passed, we actually appreciate hearing a different take on this infectious tune. And we especially love hearing something as unique and well crafted as this. Manila and DC based producer Manila Killa has created a nice blend of love trap, with big synths, military style snare hits, and carefully chosen strings. It has calls on associations of producers like Cashmere Cat, who effortless blend negative soundscape with atmospheric elements and smooth, rolling bass. It’s quite delectable.

[Dubstep] Lana Del Rey – Young & Beautiful (PatrickReza Remix)

Lana Del Rey
Young & Beautiful (PatrickReza Remix)

Not too long ago, Producer/DJ PatrickReza released his first all original EP, The Woods. We loved the darker nature that his original work brought to the blogosphere, mixing beautiful melodies with razor sharp synths and devastating drops. And while that had kept our attention for a while, we’re admittedly really excited for this tune today.

When we first stumbled onto PatrickReza, it was on his debut remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans.” Nearly two years later, and a coverage of every single one of his tunes, we find ourselves once again talking about Patrick remixing one of Lana’s tracks. In his take on “Young and Beautiful,” Patrick takes a step back from the more aggressive structures and focuses in on a melodic chillstep remix that accents Lana’s voice. It’s calming, beautifully produced, and we’re brought back to the first day we heard this young producer’s work.

Lana Del Rey is definitely one of the most remixed (although M83’s Midnight City still holds the record). While some are less than desirable, some grab us by the ear and demand our attention.

That’s exactly what we have for you today. French producer Cedric Gervais has taken some time off from his endless quest for a girl named “Molly” to throw down this energetic vocal house remix of Lana’s “Young and Beautiful.” The uplifting synths and dancy big room beats beg to get play time on dance floors this summer, and they most assuredly will.

Young & Beautiful

Lana Del Rey makes her return to the new music world, thanks to the forthcoming film The Great Gatsby. “Young & Beautiful” showcases the pop singer in all her somber, dramatic glory. The haunting track is an interesting one for LDR — an H&M model, lovely style icon and overall gorgeous human specimen — as it has her calling out desperately, “Will you still love me when I am no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul?” Fans of the songstress, as well as fans of the tragic literary tale, will enjoy this quite a bit. Listen to it below and be sure to pick up the official Great Gatbsy soundtrack (also featuring Florence and The Machine, Jay-Z, Beyonce and Andre 3000) when it drops May 6th internationally and May 7th here in the US.
