Lana Del Rey is indisputably the woman of the year, and her latest track ‘Blue Velvet’ has only cemented her reputation for creating stylish pop with a knife edge. Penguin Prison’s dark electro reworking of this track has given ‘Blue Velvet’ a sensual touch, with Lana’s murmurs looped throughout the track and layered over some icy synths. Definitely a late-night club banger in the making, stream this remix below.
[Electro] Lana Del Rey – Blue Velvet (Penguin Prison Remix)
[HOT] Lana Del Rey – Blue Velvet
Sultry pop vixen Lana Del Rey is back with a stunning cover of the 1950s favourite “Blue Velvet” as part of her promo work for clothing giant H&M. The song was used in David Lynch‘s 1986 film Blue Velvet, and the advertising spot is suitably surreal and disorientating in homage to Lynch’s film-making style. Lana’s on fine form here, with her lower-register vocals taking a hypnotic and dark turn to create a very individual twist on a classic. Check out the commercial clip, followed by the full track below. As a bonus, listen to another of Lana’s newly surfaced tracks, the electronica-infused “Backfire.”
[Hip-Hop] THEBLKHANDS – Downtown (Prod. ILLA)
THEBLKHANDS are an upcoming independent rap group out of New York City. If you haven’t heard them yet, then consider this a proper introduction. The trio is comprised of rappers Cazzie Jetson and Dominic Serendip and producer ILLA. They’ve already garnered some interest, with endorsements from Big K.R.I.T., Smoke DZA, and Skyzoo, who will all be featured on their upcoming album. Their latest single features a sample of Lana Del Rey‘s breakout hit, “Video Games,” putting a spin on the track quite like any other remix before. It’s this willingness by THEBLKHANDS to consistently push the boundaries of their music that certainly gives the group one of the brightest futures in the game.
If you still haven’t gotten a chance to hear the group’s first two excellent singles, I highly suggest you check them out down below along with the accompanying video for “Downtown” after the jump.

Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness (Hannes Fischer Remix)
Ah, the last weekend of August. Summer seems to be the hardest season to bid farewell to, and who to better articulate that melancholy feeling than Lana Del Rey? But if you find her version of “Summertime Sadness” to be too somber and brooding, there’s an alternative. On this remix, Berlin’s Hannes Fischer brightens up the mood a little, allowing in more light while keeping the gloomy clouds at bay, for a simpler, orchestral-pop vibe. That’s not to say it is devoid of yearning romanticism — that’s a Lana trademark, after all — there’s just less of it, which is hardly a bad thing.
Listen to the original and the remix below. “Summertime Sadness” is off Lana Del Rey’s album Born To Die. Check out more of Hannes Fischer’s music, including remixes of Bon Iver, Feist, Adele, and Little Dragon, on his Soundcloud page.
[NEW] Lana Del Rey – Serial Killer
It’s almost a year to the day since Lana Del Rey uploaded “Video Games” to YouTube, and already the all-American songstress is releasing new material to follow up from Born To Die. “Serial Killer” is a big and brash twisted kind of love song, which oozes sass by the gallon. Rumoured to be featured on the Paradise edition of her debut record, “Serial Killer” shows a more powerful Lana, one who’s ready to bring it and get what she wants. Check out “Serial Killer” below, and fall in love all over again with the voice of the year.
[Video] Lana Del Rey – Heart-Shaped Box (Nirvana Cover)
In an inevitable turn of events, the global sensation Lana Del Rey has cemented her reputation as indie’s goddess by covering Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ at a live show in Sydney. While the video may not be the best quality, it’s easy to see that Lana has taken the track and put her own style on it – her powerful and emotional vocals are complemented by sweeping strings. Del Rey has spoken of her love of ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ before, and this cover has more than done the song justice. Fingers crossed for a studio version soon.
[Remix] Lana Del Rey – National Anthem (Fred Falke Remix)
Euro house producer Fred Falke has taken his hand to one of the hottest tracks of the year, ‘National Anthem’ by pop sensation Lana Del Rey. Lana’s vocals have been given some added sass in the remixing process, while tropical synths and beats make this reworking of ‘National Anthem’ a summer hit in the making. If you’re in need of a great pop song to dance to, then this remix was made for you.
