Xaphoon Jones is no more, and Noah Breakfast finally emerges to take his place. It’s kind of like when Robin split from Batman, and embraced the identity of Nightwing to ironically spread his wings and vanquish evil on his own, except in this case our hero stays steady slaying remixes. Comic book comparisons aside, we’re glad to welcome Noah in with open arms as he serves up this sultry remake of Wet‘s “No Lie.” In contrast to the ruminating, restrained nature of the original, this spunky revamp is a blipped out, glitchy affair with a sticky bass that’ll force you to want to loop endlessly “on and on and on and on…” Also featuring a worthy verse from Philly’s Spank Rock, this tune makes for a perfect listen at the beginning or end of your night. Well, ladies and gentleninjas, I have some tragic news to share with you all today. It appears that Xaphoon Jones is no more. Before you panic at the thought of a world without Xaphoon however, you must know that this is all part of an elaborate rebirth for the Philadelphia native under the new moniker, Noah Breakfast. Before preparing for life under his new identity, the talented producer decided to provide us with one last hurrah, this remix of Grouplove‘s “Ways To Go.” We didn’t think anyone could possibly top The Knocks‘ rendition of the track, but Xaphoon is prepared to give them a run for their money. This latest remix takes a far more unique spin on things, slowing things down from the original, isolating the vocals, and amplifying them with some much needed bass.

All in all, it serves as a fitting end to this chapter of Xaphoon’s career, which has been in a bit of a transitional period lately, especially after leaving Chiddy Bang. While we’re sad to see that awesome title go, we wish him all the best as he undergoes his new transformation.

Where was this one when we put together our recent Mega Summer Hip-Hop Playlist? After taking some time to “Breathe,” Chiddy Bang returns to the scene with this airy new feel-good single, just in time for the end of summer. Despite its laidback vibes, “Breathe” is meant to appeal to the working man, who among all the stresses that can consume him at anytime just needs to step back at some point, take a deep breath and reflect. This is just the first of what we presume to be many other excellent offerings from Chiddy Bang’s upcoming mixtape, Baggage Claim, out later this year.

It isnt uncommon for friends in the industry to collab and make some genre-crossing music. From Talib Kweli and Res (Idlewarship) to Kanye and Jay, the pairing of talented artists usually turns out to be an even better collaboration. Following suit is newcomer to the game, Brooklyn rapper Theophilus London and his long-time friend James Boykins III. The duo, titled Paris 96, make their debut with a new, smooth single “Afternoon”. The Xaphoon Jones produced seductive tune blends the intricate hip-hop/electro style of the Brooklyn emcee with the smooth, alternative vocals of Boykins over a hazy electronic groove. Fans of their previous works “Life of a Lover” and “Cold Pillow” should definitely check out this new cut and expect to hear more when their yet untitled EP drops in April.

[Hip-Hop] Chiddy Bang – Paper & Plastic

The Philly-based duo, Chiddy Bang, team up with Converse for a pretty awesome and swagged-out track. As usual, Xaphoon Jones is on point incorporating the perfect amount of electro sounds in his production. Chiddy employs a flow popularized by the likes of Juicy J and 2 Chainz, which has recently become a staple in hip-hop. While a bit corny at times, the style is delivered perfectly by the rapping half of the group, who finds a way to put his own spin on it still expressing his individuality as an artist. A great record to turn up and grind to.
