Over the years Never Say Die Records has become notorious for showcasing some of the most diverse and talented producers in all of EDM. Earlier this year, NSD debuted finnish producer 501’s hit single “Headrush ft. Belle Humble” which propelled 501 into an extremely successful year. After releasing spectacular remixes and original tracks on labels such as Big Beat and Circus Records, 501 decided to close out an immensely successful year with the release of his latest Smash EP. The EP consists of 4 original tracks which clearly embody what makes 501 so impressive as a producer. His sound design is bar none, combining profound bass with meticulously crafted melodies and synths. 501’s creative genius fuses genres and clearly knows no limits. The title track, “Smash!” is an impressive glitch-hop tune that personifies 501’s unparalleled ability to imbedded high energy wobbles with harmonious melodies and vocals to create a truly unique original tune. Another track off the EP and my personal favorite, “Letting Go”, showcases beautiful top-line vocals overlaying a truly anthemic bassline. “Letting Go” is a masterpiece and a must listen for any fan of dubstep. The other two tracks, “Broken Notes” & “Feel For You” are fantastic as well bringing a refreshingly original sound to 140 BPM.
All in all, the Smash EP is a fantastic piece of work which clearly represents that 501 is a name every EDM fan should begin getting acquainted with if not already.
