Jaymee Franchina & Jeremy Smith – B.I.G. Flume [FREE ALBUM]

It has been a while since I tried to retire all the B.I.G. mashups on The Music Ninja. Big respects to the most Notorious mc’s of all time but there was a time too many producers were releasing mediocre mashups and remixes that just forced us to be in a hipster mode. However, we just cant ignore the latest mashup project by Jaymee Franchina & Jeremy Smith giving B.I.G. a fresh new platform to consume his lyrical talent with an incredible backdrop of Australian producer Flume’s immaculate production. In a conservative mix of chillwave and hip/hop, the duo manages to create powerful new renditions of classic tracks for modern consumption.

James Blake – Retrograde (Minorstep remix)

Following the release of the emotionally crushing downtempo new single from James Blake, comes an equally as relaxing bootleg remix by producer Minorstep all the way from Athens, Greece. Using most of the originals structure, this remix provides another alternative to consume James Blake in a similar fashion to how it was first intended, consumed in a somber atmosphere of opaque melodies.

Viceroy – Dream Of Bombay (Bit Funk Remix)

Earlier this year, San Francisco’s summer enthusiast/producer Viceroy released a bright track ‘Dream of Bombay’ featuring the breezy vocals from up and coming vocalists Chela. Today however, Bit Funk, the Brooklyn funk engineer/producer improved upon the blusterous and joyful original with bumpy yet smooth groove that is just as digestible as a cool beer as you sick your toes in the sand on a warm summer day. There may be blizzards and storms happening this winter, but tracks like these are bound to keep your ears warm.

Good Field – ‘Tell Me Ida’ & ‘Our Roofless Home’

Hailing from the live music capital of the US, Austin indie outfit Good Field are releasing their upcoming self-titled debut album today, February 12. Created as a new project from former members of Voxtrot and Brazos, the band has been well recieved, opening for groups like The National, Vampire Weekend and The Walkmen among many others.

Good Field is ‘an homage to cricket and deslate landscapes’, as described by Price who wrote some of the album in an isolate adobe by a cenote in New Mexico. The album, infused with folk instrumentation, is mainly influenced by shoegaze, indie rock and ’60s guitar tones with attractive rugged vocals and vivid lyrical story telling.

Daughter – Still

We have been a fan of Daughter for a couple of years now but nothing can really match her soft and powerful live performance last years’ SXSW. Equipped with just a guitar and her lonesome voice, she captivated the room with her simplistic approach and her ability for a deeper emotional connection through every note and rhyme.

Her debut demo EP, exposed her unbridled talent to the world and with the increased maturity and experience, she is set to release forthcoming debut album If You Leave this spring. “Still” is just another example of why we are infatuated with the singer and a perfect addition for a valentines mix.
