Jacob Plant – Shakedown [TMN Exclusive]

Calvin Harris very own label, Fly Eye Records, ended 2012 with the huge progressive house release of Thomas Gold’s “Miao”. Continuing that momentum into a new year comes a bigger banger by rising London producer Jacob Plant. After putting out a handful of well-crafted originals and remixes from dubstep to trap, the talented producer is back more determined than ever with his bass pounding single “Shakedown”. Although it will be officially released January 28th, The Music Ninja brings you the very first preview of the track. Featuring a long and evolving build up of an extremely palpable note progression that slowly rises from down under, “Shakedown” quickly brings one back down with a gritty and most satisfying in-your-face bassline. It lives somewhere between powerful electro house and dubstep but rest assured it is a full blooded banger.

’Jacob Plant – Shakedown’

We are so excited about the release that we had to learn more about Jacob Plant and how he got involved with Calvin Harris:

TMN: Congratulation on such an impressive release with “Shakedown”! Tell us more about how you got started and how you got involved with Fly Eye records.

Thanks! It was quite a simple process really. My first link with Calvin was when I did a remix for his and Example’s song ‘We’ll Be Coming Back”. I met him when I was LA a few months later and we got talking, he and his manager suggested I should do a song for his label. I made a few tracks the week I got back and ‘Shakedown’ was one of them. It seemed right for his label so I sent it his way and he loved it, which a massive honour!

TMN: Often times it takes a while for an artist to find their own sound and style, describe your sound in three words and walk us through your main influences as a producer.

[Indie] Frances Cone – Soon [TMN PREMIERE]

Today we bring you a wonderful delight from Brooklyn-by-way-of-Charleston songwriter Frances Cone. The classically trained southern sweetheart with a “city heart” captivated us last summer with her cover of Jump, Little Children’s 1994 song “Mexico” and the release of her first single “Come Back”.

Giving us another preview of what to expect from her upcoming debut album being released later this year, comes a lighthearted and endearing track titled “Soon”. Effortlessly combining soul and indie folk into one coherent sound, “Soon” demonstrates a playful instrumentation with emotional sensibilities of love and hope. In a world where authenticity in music opens heart, Frances Cone genuineness and humbling lyrics is sure to open ours.

Pot Shop – Macklemore Thrift Shop Parody

The fifth and final single from Seattle-based American rapper Macklemore debut studio album The Heist, ‘Thrift Shop‘ has received enormous success topping on the US billboard hot 100 at number 5, while still gathering much attention from the music blogosphere. Its catchy production by Ryan Lewis, thoughtful pun-fueled rhythms vocals and vivid music video gave it much viability in 2012. Just a few months after its release, we are now seeing one of the best parody videos we have come across. This well put together commentary about the legalization of marijuana is as insightful as it is entertaining, including a small cameo of Macklemore himself at the very end.

Below is the actual parody song by Steve Berke, available as a free download.

Aylen 2013 Bootleg Pack : A MUST DOWNLOAD PACK TO BEGIN 2013 [TMN PREMIERE]

With so many obvious reasons to love New Jersey producer Andrew Lin, better known as Aylen, there was no doubt in our minds that whatever he did next, we would fully support it. Yet, in all honesty, I was not expecting such a massive release. PREPARE FOR WHAT WILL BE THE MOST EXCITING BOOTLEG PACK OF 2013, as Aylen is about to unleash a collection of 13 delicately produced bangers completely unique in both execution and style.

The Music Ninja has been known for frowning upon mashups just because at the end of the day, too many producers seem to simply layer two tracks together and call it a mix. Aylen has redefined and set the new standard for what a mashups should be like in the modernized area of electronic dance music. The very first track, “Toxic Streisand” captures the nostalgia of previous years with the ubiquitous 2010 single from Duck Sauce ‘Barbra streisand’ and the focus and determination of ‘Toxic Rush’ (Jewelz feat. Scott Sparks) bassline. It sets the mood for the next 12 songs and leaves you prepared to expect the unexpected. From utter bass destruction with a mashup combining Dada Life and Gigi Borocoo, to melodically rich tracks influenced by Martin Solveig, Madeon and Hard Rock Sofa. It has it all.

‘Cannonball’ also takes an enormous amount of spotlight as Aylen edits in Anchorman (the Movie) quotes throughout Carnage & Victor Niglio’s big room trap remix. Being surprised at what is coming out of our speakers is the best gift we could receive welcoming a new year.

There is just so much for everyone that already being 9 days into 2013, we know this compilation will lively be apart of dance floors all across the world for months to come.

Eric Clapton – Cocaine (Koyote Bootleg)

Koyote, the mashup and bootleg producer that never ceases to impress us, is ready to start 2013 with a bouncy release. Originally written and recorded by JJ Cale in 1976 and then later covered by English singer-songwriter Eric Clapton, “Cocaine” became one of most enduringly popular hits in its era.

Koyote has interwoven the original vocals and injected with a enough feel good spring-like bass that it is almost impossible to stay still. Plus the light hearted trumpets make it for a definite party track.
