Santa-Cruz based Getaway Dogs will soon be adding a much-needed spark to the closing of the few, fleeting, warm weather weeks that lie ahead. Luckily for you, you won’t have to wait until Friday to drink in this collection of indie folk beauties. Why’s that? You guessed it. We have a sneak preview of the entire album for you, right now.
If you’re not familiar with this Bay Area 6-piece just yet, don’t fret. Lost in the Ebb is their debut album, which means you’re coming in at the perfect time to get acquainted with founder Kai Killion, and the other brilliant puzzle pieces that make up this act, including Sam Stone, Mikey Whalen, Andrew Dreher, Lucas Heinel and Elliott Kay.
This 15-track body of work is purely intoxicating, leaving you with a dizzying smile and slowly creeping warm-n-fuzzies. Somehow, it feels like the track was written, practiced and recorded in an extremely natural setting, infusing atmospheric nuances throughout the entire listening experience. Take the lead single, for example. “Indonesia” has a glow that radiates with organic vibrations, instantly transporting you away from the hustle of the city, and into the great, wide open wilderness.
“Wild Guess” is another one of our favorites, boasting calculated acoustic guitar picking intertwined with psychedelic electric guitar chords. The playful back-and-forth vocal exchanges give an endearing feeling, one that sticks with you long after the song wraps up.
In all honesty, we could go on, and on about each and every track in Lost in the Ebb. We mean that. This is truly a “press play and walk away” album. Between the articulate finger-picking, nods to mother nature, enchanting vocals, and infectious indie folk structure, we’re pretty sure you’ll think so too.
