New Carnival – Sweet Caroline [TMN VIDEO PREMIERE]

New Carnival
Sweet Caroline

If you stopped by this post in hopes of finding a new version of Neil Diamond’s legendary “Sweet Caroline,” we have to inform you that you probably won’t be belting out that iconic “ba ba ba!” While that classic will forever live in the annals of karaoke lore, we’re actually bringing you sparkly new anthem from Bristol-based trio New Carnival.

“Sweet Caroline” kicks off an event-filled 2016 for this budding young band, leading them into a Club NME show at the Koko next month, followed by a hometown gig at The Louisiana and an appearance at Dot To Dot Festival coming in May. This is only the second release from these lads, which means you’re early to the party. Unless you happened to catch Annie Mac dubbing them with the esteemed New Names for 2016 honor earlier this year, in which case, you’re ahead of the curve.

The tune boasts scintillating guitar work, emphatic percussion, and lyrics that grab a hold quickly. At times, it’s reminiscent of The Wombats, bringing a dancy, larger-than-life listening experience. Today, we’re bringing you the accompanying music video, which was directed by Woody Rankin. Take a look below, then head over to iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer to get “Sweet Caroline” for your personal collection.

UK Tour Dates
22nd April, Club NME at Koko, London

27th April, The Louisiana, Bristol

27th-29th May – Dot To Dot Festival (Nottingham, Bristol & Manchester)

There’s no doubt a good lot of you are counting down the days to your annual pilgrimage to that infamous Southern California desert. Alongside packing, buying portable phone chargers, and finding an epic tank top, you’re also probably building out the perfect Coachella party playlist, calculating the perfect arrangement of tunes to fill the speakers in your Airbnb rental, hotel room, or tent. Well, we have another solid addition to toss into the mix, coming by way Chicago-based Kryptogram.

We’re no stranger to the silky smooth, self-dubbed Neo-House sounds from this up-and-coming producer, having previously covered tracks of his. However, it has been a minute since he’s popped up on our radar, most likely due to the fact that he’s also studying Audio Engineering at Columbia College Chicago. Balancing that and making music is no easy task, but we sure are appreciative he put in some long nights to bust out this gem.

“Scarlet” is the first release of 2016 from this Windy City resident, and it showcases what we’ve come to know and love from him. It’s light and groovy, featuring soft kicks, layers of delicate synths, and well-crafted vocal samples. The collective effort provides something that’s perfect for a pre-game poolside chill session, the lengthy line of traffic to the Polo Fields, or keeping things going after you get back to your spot.

It’s Hump Day, which means you could probably use a little bit of attitude, edge, and energy to get you up and over into the second half of the week. Look no further, ninjas. Portsmouth-based five-piece Kassassin Street has you covered, coming your way with a brand new track that has an aggressive, dancy, and politically charged nature.

“Hand In My Pocket” first kicks into gear with an emphatic bassline and strong, slapping snare hits. From there, the song layers on eccentric guitar work, laser-like synths, well-placed vocal samples, and one catchy-as-hell chorus. Three years ago, she crafted her debut song, “We’ll Be Ghosts,” which showcased the expansive reach of the internet, the blogosphere, and the millions of scouring music nerds who search for upcoming talent each and every day. Sea Moya – Bangalore [TMN PREMIERE]

Sea Moya
Bangalore

As I get older, gracefully accepting the fact that my rowdier years are fading in the rearview mirror, I’m consistently drawn to the calmer, more ambient, and textural electronic music. From Tycho, to Bonobo, to Little People, I’m intrigued more so by artists who artfully craft impressive layers of soundscape that create a truly encapsulating experience. Today, I get to add one more name to that list with this premiere from Cologne/Mannheim-based three-piece Sea Moya.

Dropping in June on their upcoming Baltic States EP, “Bangalore” is a listening experience in the truest sense. It slowly builds through tape saturation, atmospheric elements, and radiating synths, gradually winding its way up to a glowing, percussion-centric crescendo. You’ll find yourself putting it into a few neat little boxes, or playlists, rather, which could easily include a chill Sunday at home, a sunny day by the pool, or a lengthy road trip through the countryside.

When asked about the inspiration behind this impressive tune, Sea Moya Iven had this to say:

“Bangalore” has a real Urban feeling to us. We began to imagine a highway at night through a foreign, exotic city. We didn’t want it to be too “city” like, so we incorporated some samples of natural and more organic sounds. We decided to go against recording vocals in this track too, which is different from our usual stuff.

Make sure to follow these cats on Facebook and SoundCloud to keep up with news on the upcoming EP and live shows.

Fuzzy vocals, a hooky chorus and bright guitar chords come together harmoniously in “Like The Earth,” encapsulating the sunny vibes of Bedbugs’ hometown of Los Angeles.

Ominous yet alluring, BETS plays the role of femme fatale on a bed of glitchy production, proudly proclaiming, “I don’t fall in love.”

With menacing synths, thunderous drums, a blistering guitar solo and ALICE MK’s vocals commanding the charge, “Greed” tackles the downward spiral associated with the insatiable desire for more.
