Colleagues – Talk It Out (Branded James Remix) [TMN PREMIERE]

Colleagues
Talk It Out (Branded James Remix)

We first became enamoured with the playful, summery, electro-pop nature of Swedish band Colleagues back in 2013, after we came across their highly infectious tune “Visits.” Since then, they’ve had a myriad of successful releases, and the latest, “Talk it Out,” comes off their much-anticipated debut EP release Visits.

Today we’re excited to bring you a tasty remix of that aforementioned tune, which comes all the way from The Golden Gate City, by up-and-coming producer Branded James. These two acts had previously crossed paths a few years back when James dialed up an interpretation of their track “Parents House.” Since then, they’ve apparently kept in touch, providing us with this groovy little premiere you’re listening today.

Flipping the shimmering synth-pop tune into a lovely house rendition, this San Fran resident has outfitted it with a sultry bassline, danceable percussion, and carefully extracted samples. While the warm-weather vibes from those high pitched iconic synths are gone, we’re still left with a beautiful connection to the original through the pensive nature of the vocal delivery.

Keep tabs on everything Colleagues and Branded James by following them on SoundCloud.

[Give Back] Pegboard Nerds – Pink Clouds EP + Charitable Campaign

Even if we took music out of the equation, our respect and adoration for the Pegboard Nerds would still continue. Taking it a step beyond that, even if we took their warm, friendly, and down-to-earth nature out of the equation, we would still hold them in a high regard. Simply put – these guys embody what everyone wants from an artist. Music and amicable nature aside, they truly care about the world around them. It’s never about flashy cars, insane backstage party videos, or scantily clad women. For the Pegboard Nerds, it’s about music, their fans, and their community. And for that, we tip our ninja masks.

Their most recent display of selflessness is showcased in their Pink Cloud EP, which can be listened to in its entirety below. This five track collection showcases both a different side of the Nerds‘ abilities, yet still gives tastes of what everyone has come to know and love from this Scandanavian duo. This time around, though, all proceeds from this body of work goes directly to Fuck Cancer, a Canadian charity that focuses on the prevention and detection of breast cancer, as well as emotional support for those affected by it.

On top of the EP proceeds, the Nerds are also partnering with our friends over at Cadence & Cause. This is their second campaign with the platform, and once again, they’ve donated a collection of must-have items for fans. Included in their offerings are a set of limited edition Pink Cloud V-MODA Crossfade M-100 headphones, a signed poster/t-shirt combo pack, and some Google Hangout sessions. The majority of the proceeds from these sweepstakes will go also go directly to funding Fuck Cancer.

If you want to pick up any of those aforementioned items, simple click on the impact graph below to head over to their campaign page.

Steven Lee Covers FaderPro, His Musical Family, and the Black Mamba [TMN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW]

Some of dance music fans out there might not be in tune with who Steven Lee is, and how much he influenced the scene they’re so heavily ensconced in, but we’re hoping to change that today.

At just 20 years old, Steven Lee had recently moved to NYC for business school, but as we often hear with so many talented musicians, life had other plans in store for this then unknown producer. Working at the #1 dance label in the world, Strictly Rhythm, he partnered up with the legendary producer Albert Cabrera, forming the iconic duo that so many came to know and love. What came out of this newly developed partnership? Only one of the most highly-touted records of all time – “Shake It (Move A Little Closer.” It quickly rose to the #1 dance record on the planet, garnering two Essential New Tune nods from Pete Tong, and a World Music Award nomination.

Since those early days, Lee has continued to produce music on his own, touring the world and playing for highly regarded clubs in the industry. As you’ll soon see, the future holds quite a bit of intrigue, as Lee is continually developing new tunes, as well as helping launch FaderPro, a new platform that should excite every aspiring producer out there.

TMN: Hey Steven. Thanks for taking some time to sit down with us. First up, let’s talk about this new project, FaderPro. Can you give our readers a quick elevator pitch on what it is?

Likewise and thanks for taking the time to hang with me, you guys have supported all my new Steven Lee music, appreciated.

FaderPro goes into the recording studios of the top names and films the production of a record from start to finish with the actual producer/DJ, then provides the same files used to make that record to the purchaser, so they too can follow along and re-create the same record that of their favorite DJ/Producer. We aren’t a tips & tricks company and we trim the fat by giving you the inside track of how the best in the world make their music.

Yellow Shoots – More Alive [TMN PREMIERE]

The clock and calendar have it all wrong, as far as we’re concerned. We’re looking at the display in the top right corner of our computer screen as we type, but it can’t be correct. It can’t be Wednesday morning. Why’s that, you ask? Because Yellow Shoots has us feeling like it’s a Friday night, late, lit up by only the faint glow of a few candles around the bedroom.

“More Alive” is the eponymous single to the More Alive EP, and for those of you who’ve been following its path, you’ll know that it’s also the fifth and final single. If you haven’t been tuned in, let us catch you up to speed before you dive in. Yellow Shoots is the moniker for the Pennsylvania-based, multi-faceted, multi-instrumentalist and producer Greg Matthews. As you start to wade into his work, you’ll notice nuances of jazz, R&B, and hip-hop, all of which are tied back to his experiences while studying guitar at The University of the Arts. Since then, he’s relocated to the new musician mecca of Brooklyn and started up the project you’re hearing now.

We’ve included the full EP for your listening enjoyment, but today’s focus is all on the premiere of “More Alive.” Featuring LA-based MC Mayo, this tune is rife with sexuality, both vocally and instrumentally. It boasts a smooth bassline, pronounced kicks, and a seductive, distorted guitar riff, all of which lie delicately underneath Yellow Shoots alluring vocal tone and lyrics, and a heated verse from Mayo.

Take a listen through, but try not to get too hot and bothered at work. You still have half a day until you can put this playlist into proper action.

’More Alive ft. Mayo’
’Soul Find Me (ft. Faja)’
’Yellow Shoots – Pieces’
’Yellow Shoots – Tame You’

What can we really say in this introduction that could come close to doing this artist justice? We could talk about the endless amount of hits he has put out through the years. Tors – Good Times [TMN PREMIERE]

Tors
Good Times

It’s Monday. There’s no way to shake the fact that we’re once again left staring down five full days of work. There is a way to ease the pain, though, which involves a carefully concocted remedy of strong coffee, your favorite set of headphones, and the incredibly infectious indie rock anthem from Tors.

Brothers Matthew and Theo, along with their bandmates Andrew, Jack, and Sam, make up this London-based outfit, which should perk the ears for people who enjoy acts like Kodaline, The Decemberists, and Mumford & Sons. After just one release, many have already taken to their gifted songwriting abilities, playful song arrangements, and well-crafted lyrics, and we’re pretty sure you will too.

With “Fool on the Floor” experiencing notable success over the past four months, it’s now time to focus on the undeniably charming vibes of “Good Times.” The title really says it all, as it encapsulates the toothy-grin-inducing, sing-along nature that listeners experience throughout a memorable four minutes. The nostalgic air that surrounds it makes it immidiately enjoyable, calling back on warm, indie pop tracks we’ve all come to know and love, yet maintaining a fresh and authentic sound.

To help get you singing along with this anthemic tune a little quicker, we’re also pleased to premiere a lyric video along with the song itself. To be honest though, with lyrics like these, you probably would have picked them up without it.
