[Event + EP Review] SHIP2SHIP San Diego & The Silence is Deafening EP

SHIP2SHIP 2

(PC: Fixation Photography & LED Presents)

If you know Gary Richards, otherwise known as Destructo, then you probably know about his Holy Ship! events and SHIP2SHIP tour. The HARD Events entrepreneur has recently brought on good friend Justin Martin and Isabelle Rezazadeh a.k.a REZZ to join him for this year’s SHIP2SHIP shows. The up and coming producer from Niagara Falls never ceases to amaze with her new brand of dark techno, as she completely wowed everyone during her set at the Quartyard in downtown San Diego last Sunday. Destructo’s techno-friendly sets are also great complements to what REZZ has to offer for these SHIP2SHIP sailors. We could tell that he really showed REZZ the ropes of touring as shown in her maturity as a DJ. The crowd quadrupled as soon as she started spinning, and she quickly heightened the atmosphere with her hard-thumping basslines. The pivotal part of her performance was when she dropped tracks from her new EP, which was released on mau5trap only two days before the SD show.

The Silence Is Deafening EP perfectly showcases the Niagara Falls native’s musical style and it digs deep into what she represents. Of the four tracks in the EP, three of them are what she claimed to be having a lack of melody. You might be thinking how is that ever a good thing? Well the hardhitting kicks and recognizable sounds on her tracks are so uniquely dominant that you might just be fascinated. Her hit single, “Lost” featuring singer Delaney Jane, stuck to us like no other. Among the eerie strings and knocks in the background, REZZ is mastering the art of incorporating her distinctive sounds into her tracks. If you’re not convinced yet, try listening to “Edge” – it’s one of those tracks that you will fall in love with in an instant. The cricket-like sounds at the drop really had the crowd going nuts at the show. At only 20 years of age, we think it’s safe to say she is slowly revolutionizing the game with her innovative sounds. Check out the full playlist of The Silence Is Deafening below and let us know what you think!

[Melodic House] Monogem – Gone (INSTRUM Remix)

Monogem
Gone (INSTRUM Remix)

Brooklyn-based producer INSTRUM has been one of our favorites for quite some time now. With this remix of Monogem‘s massive hit “Gone”,  he showcases his versatility  by rearranging it into a melodic dance track. With the addictive melody provided by singer Jen’s unique vocals, the deep house change-up definitely complements and takes it up a couple notches. Towards the end of the track, there’s also something we’ve never seen in his music before – a breakdown with a hip-hop inspired trap beat, which spices things up for us quite a bit.

INSTRUM’s production style is still evolving. Having millions of Soundcloud plays and a handful of #1 tracks on HypeM, it’s safe to say that sky is the limit for this talented producer. Make sure to grab a free download if you dig the track!

SNBRN Ft. Andrew Watt – Beat The Sunrise (Gianni Kosta Remix) [TMN Premiere]

SNBRN Ft. Andrew Watt
Beat The Sunrise (Gianni Kosta Remix)

This is one track you don’t want to miss today. Gianni Kosta‘s wonderful remix of SNBRN‘s “Beat The Sunrise” will definitely put you in a good mood as you head into the final two days of your work week. As expected, the French producer dialed up his own spin with a melodic house styling complete with an uplifting organ synths and well-placed vocal samples. All in all, it truly does the original justice, while still maintaining Kosta’s signature style.

If you enjoyed the original, this track will be a welcomed change of pace, adding in a little extra spice. Think of it as the chilled out rendition of SNBRN’s “Sunset House” brand. After you’ve had a spin, be sure to check out Gianni’s page if you dig the track. He’s holding it down and creating a name for himself as an artist to watch in 2016.

[Video] JOYRYDE ft. Rick Ross – Windows

JOYRYDE Ft. RICK RO$$
WINDOWS

Kicking off the year 2016, JOYRYDE has managed to gather all the hype in the world and created a brand to himself. His new track, titled “Windows”, was meant to be a collab with Shaquille O’Neal. A Rick Ross verse was then inserted in production, which would ultimately end up as this epic track. JOYRYDE incorporates a series of brassy synth stabs into a trap beat, together with the heavyhitting kicks that will give you endless adrenaline rush. Rick Ross’ verse fits right in the mix, resulting in an urban dance joint that exemplifies the “Rosé Swurve” fusion.

Check out this music video that came out with the track after the jump.

Chet Porter Talks Electronic Music, Porter Robinson and New Debut Original [TMN Exclusive Interview]

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Canadian producer Chet Porter just released his first ever original track titled “Awakening”, and it’s as amazing as it gets. Its one-of-a-kind song structure is definitely something we rarely come across, and the ears pleasing sound almost resembles a hybrid between Porter Robinson and Tennyson. We had a chance to chat with the talented producer and talked about the inspirations behind this track and his musical influences. Check out the exclusive interview below, and give “Awakening” a listen after the jump.

TMN: First of all, congrats on releasing your first original single on Big Beat! We’ve been following your music for quite some time, and we gotta say this record truly showcases your unique sound as a producer. Can you tell us a little bit about how you started making music, and where that passion came about?

CP: Thank you! I started making music in high school, I played guitar in a band and on the side I’d just mess around on my laptop. Once everyone in the band sort of went their separate ways I still wanted to make music, so I just started digging and teaching myself more about how to create on my own.

TMN: For “Awakening”, the story-telling style of the song is very refreshing and it really caught our attention. Can you tell us the inspirations behind “Awakening” and why you chose this particular approach?

CP: “Awakening” was like the first song I wrote as Chet Porter, it’s sort of weird that it came out so much later than all of these other songs that were written after it haha. My approach to it sort of came from frustration and exhaustion: I was tired of writing these like basic house songs with a simple structure and not much character in them, so like unintentionally came up with the idea to write something more interesting than just a song, even though it actually is just a song. I got to pour a lot of ideas into it that I felt like I wasn’t letting myself do before, and now I think about song writing from a totally different point of view.
