[Indie] Moon Hooch – Contra

Two saxophones and one drummer take it upon themselves to render archaic the whole idea of needing synthesizers to round out a song. Soulfully entering the song amidst the beautiful voice laid overtop, Wenzl McGowen and Mike Wilbur wait patiently to bring your ears a brass-filled drop. Yes a drop, and that is brass-filled not bass-filled. Fiddling with your emotions until the very cusp of the drop, you will be introduced to how saxophones get down. How these two get down, you ask? Well, they have a special flavor consisting of two ingredients: a couple pints of brass and a few shots of glitch. Step 1: Mix those together. Step 2: Pick jaw up off floor. What happens in this song redefines what can be done on instruments that most people associate with Kenny G. Four guys set out on a trip to canoe down the James River in Virginia. What happened on that trip was so profound it created music. Returning home the men that make up River James found themselves in a spot where words alone were no longer the right medium to convey to any fellow human being the intensity and emotion that their trip gave to them. No dreams of champagne baths, no starry-eyed A-list celebrity hopes, just four guys collectively reminiscing over their trip using nothing more than instruments and a voice. Thoughts of moments passed rain down through the lyrics, as this band brings a nostalgic realm to this inspiring track.

September 14, 2009. That is the date Muse The Resistance came out. Three years down the road and my impatience only has to wait 39 more days. To make the wait easier to bear the English band released Madness, their first single from their forthcoming album The 2nd Law. After putting out a triumphant song for the London Olympics this summer, excitement began to grow over the thought of the new music that was sure to come. Starting off leaning heavily on the pulsating synth, this song slowly progresses showing off the talents from all corners of the band. Taking all of four minutes to climax, it will have you waiting as impatiently as I am for the next 39 days to get here a little faster. Please prepare yourself. This bootleg by Shapes of Light is about to hit you as gently as a ton of bricks. From the start the Miami and Stockholm based producers, Andrew Berman and Nicolas Russo-Larson respectively, show slight hints of the chaos that is soon to ensue. But nothing can really prepare one for what drops in at two minutes. This bootleg of Atom features a newfound filthiness that did not previously exist in this track. Throw this on your weekend track list and it will prove to be one of the quickest ways to get a crowd of people to go nuts.

For the ones out there struggling with a long distance relationship, this song and accompanying video will truly speak directly to you. New to us here at the Music Ninja, Australian/Brooklyn indie-pop duo Nolita Knights speak with a refreshing bluntness from the perspective of a mind twisted up in the complications of a relationship that spans hundreds, even thousands, of miles. The lyrics being delivered start as a question posed by the singer: Why did he put himself in this situation? Why did he have to fall for a girl who is so far away? Fortunately, by the end of the song he remembers everything that made him fall head over heels for her in the first place. In addition to the lyricism, the stage that is set by the music alone is chilling. The sitting-in-a-dark-room alone feeling that really transcends right through the speakers quickly envelopes the listener’s surroundings. With the lyrics, music, and now video all working in unison, director Brooks Reynolds helps the band convey their message that in the end, fight hard enough and any relationship can survive the distance.

Months ago two worlds were abruptly smashed together, out of that collision we today can present the newest offering of Dutch debauchery – Kangaroo. Long lost but loved are the days of Sander Van Doorn’s euro trance tracks that scuttled among dance clubs through out the world . Now having amped up his sound he brings his fellow rising Netherlands star, Julian Jordan, to have the next 6 minutes of your existence be filled with uncontrollable dancing. Immediately starting in the two different influences from totally different styles begin intertwining themselves.

The beginning is really filled with signature Van Doorn sound that gets sprinkled with a taste of what is to come from the influence of Jordan. The synths in the build up will leave you completely unaware of what is about to drop when this track opens up to reveal it’s true nature. What does drop in on your ears is a cataclysm of glitching mid high synths going absolutely wild atop an untypical four on the floor steady beat bass. Taking an 8 bar trance structure to the electro house glitch synths thrown on top simply smears the whole track with energy that never fades away. The 16 year old , Julian Jordan, did an incredible job making his presence felt through while having to share the space with the legendary Van Doorn.
