Adele has been getting the royalty treatment as far as remixes are concerned on the eve of her sophomore album “21” (due out Feb. 22).The freshly discovered Bedroom8 remix of her lead single “Rolling In The Deep” takes the drama of the original song and applies that to a wicked and aggressive beat, elevating this British songstress to full on dance diva.
You first heard Yolanda Be Cool’s “We No Speak Americano” on TMN back in July and it was everywhere in the later half of the year. From topping international dance charts, to getting sampled by Pitbull it was hard to escape the infectious beat and the overall good mood it put us in. The duo is back at it, remixing Drop The Lime‘s “Hot As Hell,” saturating the track with their signature sounds of modern Latin beats and instrumentation. The sounds of horns, congas, maracas and accordions take you away to that tropical resort in your mind, perfect to heat up your winter.
On cold and damp days like most of us have been getting lately, nothing seems to fit the mood more than the cooing voice of Carla Morrison. The Mexican born singer/songwriter has eleased a handful of her own renditions of popular Spanish songs over the past couple of years alongside her own that display her beautiful and soothing voice. Her cover of Mexican folk singer Ramon Ayala’s “Tragos Amargos” is a completely different interpretation of this classic drinking song. Ayala’s version seems to be waving his glass in the air drinking away his sorrows, whereas Morrison’s version is the kind you’d find quietly sobbing for a lost love in the corner of the bar.
Chromeo’s track “Hot Mess” is anything but! The song recently got turned into a completely new track after adding Elly Jackson’s (La Roux) vocals to it and this single version is set for a 1/17 release
date. Destined to turn many people onto both La Roux and Chromeo, the track was remixed by Duck Sauce who have had an incredible year with their big hit “Barbara Streisand” Adding a heavier beat to the track and focusing more on Jackson’s vocals makes for a good banger sure to turn up any Christmas party.
See how A-Track spun this fresh song this past weekend at Transmusicales in France and how ‘thumpy’ the room got soon after
To produce a stellar remix, a DJ must either take away or add new layers in all the right places transforming the track into something that stands on its own in comparison to the original. Many fail and end up making songs that feel contrived or otherwise boring resulting in a sea of horrible remixes of the same song…in particularly, Big Boi’s “Shutterbug.” Big Boi already has a sick flow unmatched by many in hip hop, and a lot of DJ’s created an expected ravey/trancy/housey/banger remix that doesn’t necessarily work. Mochipet works with the existing beat, keeping the integrity of the original track and elevating it from 10 to 20. Its aggressiveness, give and take, build up and drop don’t take away from the track but add to it. Another example that no matter how popular and overplayed a song may get, someone out there will still find a way to make it sound fresh again. Thanks Mochipet!
Music Nerd and friend Anthony from The Needle Drop hit all the main points of what we think about the new Tron Legacy Soundtrack so I’ll let his words and shinny head speak for ourselves. Apart from being a Music Blog, The Needle Drop is full of more detailed video reviews of new tracks and albums so make sure you check him out.
And some originals as well from the Daft Punk – Tron Legacy Soundtrack
Cassettes Won’t Listen (NYC DJ/Producer Jason Drake) has been recording to the likes of MTV and Spin Magazine in recent years and even had time to make a cameo on NBC’s “Chuck.” His remix of Daft Punk’s “Derezzed” could be considered the mellow and smoother of the many remixes available of this track. Slightly ambient in sound, this would work great for a downtempo or afterhours vibe. The subtle dubstep in the middle of the track is a very nice surprise.
Los Angeles brothers Josh and Matt David (P.K.A. Breakdown) have been remixing and producing (two tracks of which peaked at #2 on Beatport’s Electro House charts) since 2008. They didn’t just ‘breakdown’ their own version of “Derezzed,” they brought the house down while they were at it. Of all of the remixes of this track, this works best as the big room banger, rich with a consistent hard beat coupled with a major banging sound at the 2:38 mark.
Chuckie has been on fire commanding attention with his Dirty Dutch sound. His collaboration with French DJ Gregori Klosman does not disappoint. The result: a THROBBING banger. If throbbing migraines were pleasurable, they would sound like this. Just like a headache, when you think it’s gone away, it comes back later to bang you up more so don’t be fooled when the track goes silent at the 2:05 mark.
