[House/Nu-Disco] Autograf – Metaphysical (Eau Claire Remix)

Autograf
Metaphysical (Eau Claire Remix)

Autograf’s latest single “Metaphysical” has already seen several remixes over the last few weeks from anointed artists including Daktyl, Kilter, Fehrplay, Exmag, and Vijay & Sofia; but it was this latest revision by DC’s leading lady of saccharine, thumping house and disco, Eau Claire, that nailed us hook, line and sinker. This year alone, Eau Claire’s already issued releases on institutions like Warner Brothers Records and Elektra, while her latest offering sees release on Autograf’s Metaphysical EP through Ninja Tune’s Counter Records, and once again the bubbling artist sprinkles a highly addictive, effervescent dance glow onto a malleable tune and come up with another diamond. Eau Claire largely keeps the original vocal track intact, but added the choice amount of subtle pitch and tweaking, adding: “I like to keep most vocals intact in my work which I did here but additionally added pitched vocal cuts that balanced out the track. ” We’re just lucky she also happened to be one of 2015’s busiest producers, and managed to bless with a plentiful cornucopia’s worth of tasteful disco touch-ups, bootlegs, edits and remixes. With the recent opening of her own curated night, ‘Feed Me Disco’, at one of DC’s most reputable venues, The U Street Music Hall, we hope you won’t take us lightly when we say 2016 will be perhaps a global breakout for one of our favorite new artistic entries into club land. Enjoy Eau Claire’s “Metaphysical” remix above.

[House/Funk] Crew Love – Smokers Delight ft. PillowTalk & Soul Clap

Crew Love
Smokers Delight ft. PillowTalk & Soul Clap

To understand the full capacity of all that is Crew Love, one must understand how intertwined and deep it all really runs. What started as an idea between Wolf + Lamb & Soul Clap and their respective backing labels, has steadily blossomed into one of dance music’s hottest and most recognizable collectives featuring 11 acts, totaling 17  members. After a mini-tour this past Summer, which we got to catch a piece of in Denver back in August, Soul Clap and Wolf + Lamb’s Crew Love collective will release their first collaborative album in early 2016: Based On A True Story, and with the accompanying announcement have also dropped the long-player’s first single “Smokers Delight”. The hazy, funkified debut single is perfect foreshadowing for what we hope to hear from Based on a True Story, combining a very addictive fusion of classic house and classic disco sensibilities with the contemporary edge and swag we’ve become accustomed to from every involved act. “Smoker’s Delight” draws together elements of rap, R&B and the crew’s signature good-time funk on top of those aforementioned dance structures, which results in a tune that you’ll be hard-pressed to shake for at least a few days after first consumption.

Based On A True Story will see release via freshly minted label counterpart Crew Love Records along with the backing support of legendary dance institution !K7, and we’re having a hard time containing our collective excitement towards what will no doubt be one of the hottest dance properties in 2016. Check out the entire track list for Crew Love’s impending debut LP which features 11 track contributions from all 17 members of the US outfit including PillowTalk, Life on Planets, Tanner Ross, No Regular Play, Slow Hands and Nick Monaco; spanning between a mix of solo efforts and collaborative entries. The love-gang has also confirmed they’ll be hitting the road again in summer 2016, though no tour dates have been announced as of yet. But, you can bet we’ll be on top of every single leading up to Based On A True Storys anticipated release. Until then, listen to “Smoker’s Delight” above.

[Electro/Trap] Kygo – Stole The Show (iSHi Remix)

Kygo Feat. Parson James
Stole The Show (iSHi Remix)

As this writer pens this post from a wintery wasteland in Denver today, I couldn’t help but feel the bounce from Stockholm’s iSHi. Kygo’s original track “Stole The Show” has already made the viral rounds with its standard chart-topping Tropical-House gleam, but on his latest revision, iSHi rides an inverse wave and flips it into his own gritty blend of larger than life electro sounds and hip-hop infused cadence. Quickly entrenching himself in the minds of dance fans worldwide behind anthems like his Pusha T. featuring “Push It”, it’s clear to see why as iSHi manages to tastefully craft a tune that is completely his own brand of wobbly, boisterous dance music, while pitching out the vocals and keeping intact the perfect amount of original stem work so as not to alienate those Kygo diehards either. Step up your Tuesday for a moment with iSHi’s “Stole The Show” remix above.

[Deep-House/Future] Cosmo’s Midnight – Walk With Me ft. Kučka (KOA Remix)

Cosmo's Midnight
Walk With Me ft. Kučka (KOA Remix)

Let’s face it, for a lot of you ninjas out there, Fridays are designed for dancing out whatever stresses may have built up over the week at work or school. So, it is indubitably our duty to help supply the perfect tracks to help shift out of your Mr. Anderson persona and into your inner Neo (if you don’t understand The Matrix reference, I’m getting too old).

Pacing off today’ selection is just a gorgeously tuned, gliding slice of club-house from mysterious Sydney based production collective KOA. With only one tune released under the KOA moniker thus far; an original record, “All of My Love”, which was featured on the excellent label sampler Teen Idols: A Future Classic Compilation, the enigmatic troupe make their first foray into the world of remixes with a lushly crafted and understated house-y take on Cosmo’s Midnight single “Walk With Me”. On their revision of “Walk With Me”, KOA delightfully represents their take on that globe-sweeping Australian indie-dance sound made so popular by the same imprint championing them, Future Classic, through a groove-first synth line and the subtle sweeping roll of deep sub bass. Which, set against those flitty vocal chops, plays like the perfect pairing. We can’t get enough of this one today, so start loosening up and get into the Friday spirit with KOA’s “Walk With Me” remix above.

[Electro/Deep-House/Video] Human Movement – Dancing Room

Human Movement (AUS)
Dancing Room

For over a year, we’ve been touting Australian industrial/tech/deep/electro crossover duo Human Movement as an act to diligently keep your eye on, and for good reason. From their inception, Human Movement have constantly delivered a darkly unique approach to club-music; fusing sonic bits of proper deep-house, techno, industrial and electro with the kind of measured precision of an act we’d have expected to have been around the game for decades. While we haven’t heard much since their remix of Whitney Fierce’s “The Night Air”, the pair have been busily toiling away towards a complete audio/visual concept, and have come storming back to the pages of TMN with both a fresh stomper, “Dancing Room”, and its accompanying visual piece (featured below). “Dancing Room” leans on heavy, metallurgic builds and pristine rolling bass to create a tune that pulls us directly to the dancefloor in the heaviest and most primal of ways, while its video counterpart flawlessly compliments the tune’s dusky ambience. We’re hoping this most recent Human Movement resurgence is permanent, as we’ve never been able to get enough of their heavy, earworming take on dance music.

Enjoy “Dancing Room” as a pure single above, or check it out with its accompanying imagery below; but either way, do yourself a solid and listen regardless.

[House] 909 Til Infinity – Bee/Dee EP

Last week, we had the pleasure of presenting the first ever interview for the brand new house, tech & funk fueled collaboration between LA via NYC underground mainstay MANIK and Denver based tastemaker option4, 909 Til Infinity, and what better way to start off our Monday dance roll here at TMN than backing all of that chit-chat up with some tangible thumping music? 909 Til Infinity’s debut EP, Bee/Dee, dropped this past weekend on the Treasure Fingers helmed Psycho Disco Records, and it’s already been seeing an impressive amount of backing support.

Title track “Bee”, which saw a radio premiere on Friday via Episode 23 of Anna Lunoe’s ‘Beats 1’ radio show, leads things off with thickly grooved tech punch. The tune trots out to a quick start on top of a rolling booty-house bassline and only picks up steam from the permutated “BEE” vocal stabs and a choice cut of hip-hop cypher before falling into an effectively wobbled break, and bouncing back with even more authority. The extended-play’s B-Side “Dee” fits its side-2 billing perfectly. A more subdued, deep-tech cut, “Dee” takes its cues from a bit more of a techno stance. Darker, almost industrial atmospherics are synthetically crafted behind the crisp and cracking punch of snare, and muted sub-bass which lurchingly propels “Dee” forward into the kind of tune we’d expect to hear Dixon or Âme pull out during the peak of a 4-hour bender set and drive a crowd insane. With the first EP from 909 Til Infinity offering such a methodically crafted and rangy pair of tunes, we’re pretty excited to hear what else these two blokes have in store as a duo. For now, stream both “Bee” and “Dee” below, grab the EP for yourself, and check out our interview with them here.

[TMN Exclusive Interview] Introducing The Brand New Collab Between option4 & Manik: 909 Til Infinity

If you’ve stuck around the pages of TMN for a while, somewhere along the line you may have noticed our penchant for the tasteful, soulful, groove-filled corners of House music and its many iterations. We’ve had the chance to meet, interview, support and of course party with some of our favorite artists within those realms, and two artists we’ve become diligently enamored with over the years have without a doubt been one of our former ‘TMN Resident Artists of the Month’, Denver’s option4 and L.A. via NYC producer MANIK.

Between the two, they’ve parented releases on some of House music’s most notable labels in the world including Nervous/Nurvous, Defected, Sweat It Out, Hot Creations, Recovery, Fool’s Gold, AnjunaDeep, Culprit, & loads more and much to the delight of the underground dance community, they’ve teamed up to announce a brand new collaborative project: 909 Til Infinity. 909 Til Infinity’s modus operandi is a rather simple one: to “Smash down genre walls while riding a torpedo straight into your hi-fi.” We certainly can get behind that ethos. The newly formed duo’s debut EP Bee is getting set to drop this Friday on Treasure Fingers’ freshly minted Psycho Disco imprint and after advance listen, it’s a sure fire slammer, combining House, Techno, and Funk. Needless to say, our intrigue was set to ‘max’ and we just had to get to the bottom of the exciting new collab, so we managed to track them down in order to shed some more light on the project that is 909 Til Infinity. We’re beyond excited to bring you 909 Til Infinity’s first ever interview on record. Read the entire transcript below, and be on the watch for the pair’s first official release this Friday.
 ****************
TMN: First things first. We’ve obviously got to ask how a pairing like option4 & MANIK, who are not even that relatively close to each other came to be?
909 Til Infinity: Can’t stress the importance of true collaboration. We both have solo projects and are making music under those names but EVERY single song we’ve produced has been side by side in the studio. So even though we live in different cities we wanted to make sure that every song was done together from beginning to end. Not like.. one guy starts an idea and the other guy finishes it. So there’s been a lot of flying involved. We became friends years ago and just stayed in touch, So this past year has been real fun.
TMN: What are your goals, or I guess, what is the mission behind combining both of your production prowess and what do you both hope to accomplish with 909 Til Infinity?
909: Our mission statement is to put sort of an American spin on underground dance music. Sort of a mixture of bass and techno and house~ More of an expression of straight dance floor club tracks, not trying to make music to listen to in a car etcetc. We’re not making crossover music. Just straight dance floor torpedo bangers. So many acts in the U.S. are going full crossover now and we want to stick to what we know and do best.
TMN: How have you found the creative process to be different or more rewarding than just working solo like both of you have done for so long?
909: It’s a blast to DJ and work with someone who has similar music tastes. A true definition of a Duo in our opinion however is to create music that neither one of us would make alone. That’s been the funnest part. It’s not really a full artistic expression if it just sounds like one or the others solo project.
TMN: You’re getting ready to drop the first 909 Til Infinity extended play, Bee Dee, on Treasure Fingers’ Psycho Disco imprint. With that kind of backing on just your guys’ first record, we’re anticipating some great stuff. How did that signing come up, and what else do you guys have coming down the pipe to round out 2015 and kick off 2016 with a bang so to speak? Have all of your records been signed or have you guys still been shopping?
909: We actually have been working for the past year on this project so we have 9 records done and completed. About half are signed already and we’re shopping one in particular at the moment to see where we’ll put the rest. We’re super fortunate to have TreasureFingers backing and have signed the 2nd EP to his label already coming out in February. We’re hoping for a big 2016 as well! Crossing our fingers here haha
TMN: I’m sure it’s been artistically rewarding to step outside of your comfort zone’s and make music that your personal brands maybe aren’t as expected to put out. Are there any plans currently in the works as far as touring and playing shows together as 909 Til Infinity in the near future?
909: Probably won’t tour anytime soon, We want to keep the bookings based off true demand so we’re going to keep putting out music and see if it catches on first. If people start digging our style and what we’re doing then perhaps next year sometime people will see some select tour dates. We’re obviously hoping for that but we gotta see if people dig the music first:)
TMN: Speaking of shows together, have you guys been able to practice as a duo at all in regards to DJ sets?
909: We have only ever DJ’d together once as a test run.. so before we decide to hit the road we’ll be doing a lot of practicing together. Mixtapes however are something we’re going to give a lot of attention to however. So expect some dope mixes in the near future 😉
TMN: It seems like there’s a definite look and feel already in regards to all things 909 Til Infinity. Is there a concept of sorts behind your collaborative efforts?
909: This duo was built and based upon firm unadulterated love for tacos and the NBA. Thus our dope b-ball branding. We both love the NBA but in a weird way love the NBA in the 90’s. So most of the art and feel will be based off that. Although it’s still up for debate on whether or not every piece of art should have just been a taco or not.
TMN: How could a pair built on such a strong foundation of tacos and 90’s NBA not succeed hahaha? Is there anything else you’d like to get across before we let all of 909 Til Infinity’s music do the talking?
909: Yeah! Just follow TheMusicNinja forever. One of the best outlets in the business;) Oh and DJ’s go play our records out if you wanna start an earthquake on the dance floor 😉
We certainly can’t wait to hear more from 909 Til Infinity, and can’t thank you enough for letting us be your first ever interview on records.
Be sure to follow 909 Til Infinity on their Facebook here, Twitter here and Soundcloud here!
