[Indie-Dance/Synth-Pop] Humans – Tell Me (WMNSTUDIES X WASPY Remix)

Humans
Tell Me (WMNSTUDIES X WASPY Remix)

A couple of Canadian alt-pop darlings came crashing into our feed this morning, and we couldn’t imagine a better melody to break open our afternoon. HUMANS, the indie-electronic duo made up of musicians Robbie Slade and Peter Ricq just released their single “Tell Me” back in February, quietly delivering their drum-heavy indie-pop single to a decent amount of critical fanfare. But, their stock should certainly continue to keep rising as Toronto duo WMNSTUDIES have teamed up with 1/3 of DiRTY RADiO and 1/2 of BNW, WASPY to deliver an irresistibly danceable synth-pop remix shot at the dancefloor. The trio plays with hip-hop, R&B, house, and of course pop framework to conceive their collective revision, pulling HUMANS’ single away from analog instruments and into effervescent dance-pop. With the weather stateside breaking thermometers, we’ve been gravitating towards those sunshine tinted anthems. We suggest you do the same.

[Electronic] Panda Bear – Crosswords (Pete Rock Remix)

Panda Bear
Crosswords (Pete Rock Remix)

As we are now over halfway through the year, some of us music writers already start formulating our albums of the year list. Yes I know, it’s a bit early to be thinking about year end lists already, but such is the game inside the online publication world. One such album which is guaranteed to crop up near the top of countless such lists is Animal Collective founding member and acclaimed solo artist Noah Lennox, a.k.a. Panda Bear‘s excellent catalog addition, Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper. The LP takes on countless sonic mediums, never quite resting its laurels on any one sound; simultaneously functioning as a composition ripe for the remix picking. Needless to say, when we were tipped to a new remix EP, PBVSGR Remixes, to accompany the solid release, our pavlovian response manifested itself in the form of salivation. The third remix single to be released from the package after Andy Stott warped “Boys Latin” and Danny L. Harle took on “Come to Your Senses”, comes from Grammy Award winning Hip-Hop production legend Pete Rock, and it’s checked every box on our remix judgement-meter. An alternate but tasteful play on the original? Check. Gleaming production? Check. Keeping intact the original’s essence? Check.  Pete Rock’s nailed his revision, and we couldn’t wait to share it.

It’s Friday Ninjas, let’s start to get into that weekend spirit with Pete Rock’s “Crosswords” remix above. Check out the complete track listing for Panda Bear’s PBVSGR Remixes EP below.

[Electronic] Wild & Free – Tropique (Falqo Remix)

Wild & Free
Low Pressure (Falqo Remix)

Last month, we came across an excellent EP, Low Pressure, from L.A. based duo Wild & Free through Rock It Science Labs, and were immediately struck by their single “Tropique”. While we didn’t have a chance to feature the original, (as much as it pains this writer to reveal) we were blessed with underground dynamo Falqo‘s remix, and were even more entranced with “Tropique” than before. The Australian electronic savante pulls Wild & Free’s original towards a slightly more ambient sea of disco leaning modulation, landing somewhere between dance and chill. Which is exactly where we want to be this Thursday. Falqo’s slick implementation of the original stems flirts with a number of aural toys, from laidback chill-step to clubby house, but most importantly, it flirts heaviest with our ear drums.

Stream Falqo’s remix above, grab a free download here, slip into something comfortable, grab your favorite adult beverage (or not if you’re illegal) and unwind your Thursday.

[House] Digital Farm Animals – Didn’t Know ft. Yasmin (DFA Club Mix)

Digital Farm Animals
Didn't Know. Feat Yasmin (DFA Club Mix)

We’ve had our ears perked towards London based genre-skirting producer Digital Farm Animals for years now, and his latest evolution has only fanned the flames to our fire. Back in February we featured “Didn’t Know”, a sensual, electronic R&B burner from the Brit that had us all feeling some type of way. Today however, DFA’s taken the Yasmin featuring single straight to the floor with his own Club Mix on the tune, and quite honestly we can’t decide which we like better. While the original floats on top of the type of two-step melody and lush vocal work from which many of us were conceived, the club mix stokes Yasmin’s refrain with a perfect amount of reverb before delving into a huge, jackin’ synth sample and pointed cymbal shuffles to remind us all that we were listening to Digital Farm Animals’ housey side. And that reminder is always a welcome one. We won’t get too deep into our blurb however, and are opting to let Digital Farm Animals’ solid production do the talking instead; check out the DFA Club Mix for “Didn’t Know” above.

[Indie-Dance/Nu-Disco] Saint Motel – My Type (Eau Claire Remix)

Saint Motel
My Type (Eau Claire Remix)

Washington D.C. based dance bender Eau Claire has been cruising on a tsunami sized wave of buzz lately, and clearly has no plans on slowing down. Certainly one of the busier remixers to permeate our airwaves, Eau Claire’s latest revision comes on indie supergroup Saint Motel‘s radio sweeping single “My Type”, and she’s slathered her feelgood corner of dancefloor directed sound all over it. If you’ve heard the original tune, you may have most likely gotten that original sax hook stuck inside your temporal lobe for better or worse; but Eau Claire effortlessly errs on the better side. Saint Motel’s vocal  gets swaddled in syrupy sweet synth and glittery pads before letting that aforementioned hook burst through, bolstered by pulsating yet light kicks and airy claps resultign in just a beautiful alternate take on Saint Motel’s. Good luck getting this one out of your head today. Stream Eau Claire’s “My Type” remix above and be on the lookout for more additions to her steady and tasteful output soon.

[House] Kayper – The Terminal

Kayper
The Terminal (Feat. Janai)

Our house fans may have already noticed an influx of quality tunes coming out of our pages this week, and you can bet we’ve got no plans of slowing down. If you’ve managed to somehow keep YouTube channel turned quickly rising record label, Eton Messy, off of your radar, then now would be a good time to brush up on their impressive output. Known for breaking artists like Arches and tunes like Just Kiddin’s worldwide smash “Thinking About It”, Eton Messy’s catalog almost always has us standing up to take notice. The latest from the Bristol based imprint comes from burgeoning U.K. house darling Kayper, “The Terminal”; her second release with the collective now. “The Terminal” superbly blends an upbeat house melody with soulful refrain from Janai, and a shuffling U.K. garage cadence to create a direct shot to the club floor, simultaneously proving to us critics why artists like Blonde and The Magician have been championing her already developed and sophisticated dancefloor sound. Be on the lookout for Kayper’s forthcoming EP due out June 29 on Eton Messy, and in the mean time, put on your best pair of dancing shoes and get with “The Terminal” right now.

[House] Ferreck Dawn – Heaven Sent

Ferreck Dawn
Heaven Sent

As our weather stateside continues to test the tolerable heat index while pool & rooftop parties begin rolling out in the masses, we’ve begun to start craving those perfect Summertime dance tunes. Much to our delight and listening pleasure, it seems that Dutch House superstar Ferreck Dawn heard our calls for tasteful singalong dance music as he’s dropped one of the most infectious tunes we’ve heard in 2015, “Heaven Sent”. Dawn’s certainly had the Midas Touch over the last year, racking up some of the year’s most notable deep-house cuts including collaborations with Redondo (“Love Too Deep” and “Something Else”) and “Heaven Sent” follows a sterling blueprint for club success. Featuring a soaring vocal, clearly the tune’s focal point, “Heaven Sent” rounds itself out further with uplifting grand piano stabs as its hook, scampering percussion and a perfectly swung bassline to create the type of tune that can be just as happily enjoyed in your car, relaxing in a pair of worthy headphones or in the middle of a sweaty, packed club floor.

“Heaven Sent” is out now on Beatport for our savvy listeners looking to add that choice ‘heat-track’ to their favorite playlists or DJ sets, but as you’ve made it this far, stream Ferreck Dawn’s latest single above.
