[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #89

Usually when we write about young talent in this era of music, we focus on the wave of teen producers and their knack for fresh sounds, but let’s not forget that there are those of similar age who are just as capable of wowing us with their voice. 13 year-old Jasmine Thompson is one of these artists, and her arsenal of beautiful song covers on her Soundcloud will prove that she’s no one-hit-wonder. Self-declared ’emotional’ producer Addal recognized the potential in these vocals as well, and with a little magic touch the feels on this Ed Sheeran cover have been escalated to powerful levels. And speaking of feels, 21 year old UK producer Samuel boasts a formidable array of tropical remixes that will hit you straight in the sweet spot. We were so impressed and overcome at the same time, we needed to share 5 of them in this week’s playlist so you could feel the same kind of way. Porter Robinson’s ‘Sad Machine’ had a similar effect when we first heard it, and this liquid interpretation from Tut Tut Child incorporates that power into an invigorating burst of DnB goodness, made all the more sweeter by that glorious atmosphere. We’ve said time and time again that genres don’t matter when we stay in touch with how the music makes us feel. That’s why we can move straight into this progressive house gem from Bobby Green without a second thought, because underneath that swinging groove is a vibe that’s undeniably chill. Next up is a dose of golden summer sounds from German group MYNGA, who team up with Cosmo Klein for a track that’s bursting with feel-good sensations ready to fuel all your sun-soaked moments this year. The addition of sax is always a winner with us, and its use here caps off one stellar production. We end the write-up with another track written with the sun very much in mind, as NY’s The Golden Pony breathe new life into another classic courtesy of their signature laid-back funk. Whether it’s sunup or sundown, this kind of music won’t fail to hypnotize a crowd into grooving along to its infectious rhythm.

Another big week for the playlist, and we’re pretty confident you’ll be feelin it too. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #88

When new Wave Racer makes a splash on the net, there’s never any doubt that you’ll be hearing those sweet bouncy sounds right here in this playlist. For dojo #88, he brings the very best of his infectious happiness in an official remix for Foster The People, with all those signature trimmings that have made this style a worldwide phenomenon. The rising success of the Australian sound has plenty more champions behind it though, and this past week revealed an incredible collab between Sydney’s Cosmo’s Midnight and Norwegian talent Lido for an official remix of AlunaGeorge’s ‘Superstar’. The title does well to describe the quality names behind this one, and we knew this track was going to be something special well before we hit play. Many repeated plays since has reaffirmed it time and time again. That wasn’t all from Lido for one week though, for he also had a Bastille remix to unleash as well, and this one is every bit as addictive as the last. The pacing and vocal work behind his music keep the listener hanging on every moment, and yet every production continues to amaze and push things to the next level. The same could be said for French group Point Point, who had us absolutely awestruck by their first track ‘Life in Grey’. Proving they can back it up and then some, their second release ‘Morning BJ’ is as pleasurable to the ears as well…you know. With a mind-blowing progression and uniqueness to their sound, these guys are as fresh as it gets. And when it comes to new ideas, the wave of young musical talent are leading the way and making their mark in this era of the industry. 16 year-old WRLD is one of these we speak of, and his latest release under the Monstercat label will prove just how much there is to look forward to in the near future. This is pop music done right, with the beat and production at the forefront of everything that makes this song so good.

Continue down the list and there are plenty more examples of just how good we music fans have it at this present time. There’s an endless supply of innovative productions out there, and even more inspired artists emerging as a result. We’ll be the ones who are happy to share it. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #87

When it comes to selecting tracks for our Chill Dojo playlist, there are a few instruments which can instantly grab our attention, and the pan flute is one we have a very soft spot for. Add to that superb sax, magical female vocals and a groovy beat and you’ve pretty much sealed the deal. If you happened to catch this feature on Felix Jaehn’s ‘Shine’, there would be no surprise in seeing it top the list for this edition. Together with countryman Freddy Verano and the songwriting prowess of Linying, this combination of musical perfection is the perfect way to get summer started. Matoma sat atop last week’s playlist, and true to our predictions he is back in no time at all with that Norwegian sound we just can’t get enough of. This time he’s gotten together with his friend Nelsaan to craft an uplifting tribute to the John Mayer original. The song may be about free falling, but the hype behind this artist is only going to continue as each release consistently outdoes the last. Once we’re on that tropical vibe, it’s really hard to shake, so we’re going to keep that going with some bright summer disco courtesy of That’s Nice on the remix of this recent Keljet release. Whether it’s a huge pool party or a quiet outing with friends, this track is built to be a weekend anthem and the fuel to your good times. Sweden’s Tobtok has featured in the Chill Dojo for this same reason plenty of times before, and he is back once more with another piece of smooth paradise in his latest remix of ‘Catch’. Tropical soundscapes and uplifting vocals seem to be the theme of edition #87 so far, and there’s plenty more sweetness for your ears where that came from.

Next up it’s Bono’s turn as Belgian producer Henri Pfr and Chicago’s Kiso forge a U2 remix whose power goes far beyond the lyrics alone. This edit is pure feels, wrapped in a bed of floating chords and care-free feelings. Lana Del Rey’s lyrics usually go down a different route of melancholy, but as always we love to hear music which can flip all expectations on its head. That’s exactly what we have hear with Stint’s take on ‘West Coast’, stripping back the brooding  original to reveal a cheery side you wouldn’t see coming. Complete with whistle solo, this is all kinds of chill, the likes of which we haven’t heard before. And speaking of new directions, we are loving how Austrian DnB duo Camo & Krooked have been expanding their musical repertoire into a more laid-back style of late. Their remix of the Klangkarussell original puts their refreshing liquid sound on full display, and we’re looking forward to seeing plenty more of this in the near future.

But that’s only scratching the surface of what is on offer this week, so make sure to dig all the way down to discover all the treasures we’ve got for you here. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #86

Some places have the weather, some have the beaches, and some have the never-ending party vibe, but Norway has now cemented itself as the home of summer as far as music is concerned. We’ve heard the amazing tropical stylings of both Kygo and Bearson throughout the year so far, but this magical land has made our jaw drop once again with another talented artist in Matoma. It doesn’t take long to realize that the 22 year old has a serious skill for composition, and every one of his productions is soaked in good vibes and just oozes happiness. He knows his way around an acapella as well, as these remixes of ‘Old Thing Back’ and ‘Higher Love’ will show, but be sure to check out his whole Soundcloud for plenty more material to throw straight into your latest summer playlist. It’s been a while since our latest dose of Snakehips, and this week we’ve been blessed with some of that production we know and love alongside some flawless vocal work from Sinead Harnett. The soulful songstress has worked alongside names like Disclosure and Ryan Hemsworth in recent times, but her blissful style just feels right at home over this bed of warm sultry groove. Consider us well and truly addicted. Peking Duk’s anthem ‘High’ has achieved a similar effect worldwide since it’s release, but it’s this vibe-filled version from Yahtzel that has got us hooked all over again. Whether it’s belting out the familiar lyrics or just bopping along to the infectious beat, this is a remix guaranteed to have waves of summer festival-goers under its complete control. We’re shifting from the festival stage to the heated dance-floor now, because Frenchman Darius has once again cooked up another killer piece of funk in his take on MØ’s ‘Don’t Wanna Dance’. But it really doesn’t matter what you want to do, because there’s no stopping your body from moving to this crazy groove, and there’s nothing that can prepare for you for the absolute eargasm that happens at 1:50. That’s way too hot to handle!!

We’re far from done yet though, because we’ve got some new Tobtok to add to the mix as well, so be expecting another big serve of the tropics to inject some joy into your day. This smile-inducing remix of the Zak Waters original will turn around even the darkest day into something worth celebrating, so lose yourself in this feel-good atmosphere of chill goodness. Zak’s been busy doing his own remix work lately as well, and we just love how well his vocals for ‘Over You’ meld so well with the timeless Breakbot classic. And because we love highlighting talent that you just have to hear in the Chill Dojo, we end the write-up with a big shout out to this jam from Kyle Hallam. We don’t know much other than the fact he hails from the warm climate of Australia’s northeast coast, but ‘Deep’ is as fresh as it gets, so that is enough to keep us satisfied for the time being. We see you Kyle.

Alright that wraps it up for another week, but your job is far from done after reading this. Get amongst it! Peace out.

It’s been a while since we’ve thrown some certified baby-makers into the mix, so we’re kicking of this week’s edition with a Trippy Turtle remix that’ll get more than just this dojo going. NY producer Feyde cranks the heat to the max for a track that leaves absolutely no doubt as to its intended purpose. Just be careful that the amazing production doesn’t steal the limelight. No time to rest cos we’re moving straight into another dose of feels courtesy of AOBeats. Lucky for us the melody and beat is so incredible on this one that you’ll be jamming to the vocals before you can remember where they’re sampled from.  Yep, you’ve realized now haven’t you? We’re not even mad though. There’s no such worry with FKJ, as his remix selection is always on point. Couple that with his signature slow and funky treatment and it’s a guaranteed soulful experience from beginning to end. Bobby Tank deals in a very different kind of funk, one layered with drum breaks and groove that continue to redefine the possibilities of musical creativity. Add to that fact that ‘Learn From You’ is all kinds of chill, and we have ourselves a playlist entry that will be on heavy repeat all week. Kasbo is another artist always pushing the boundaries, and while his latest release does lean towards the heavier side of trap, there’s something about this beautiful bass-filled adventure that needed to be heard here. The talented young Swede has definitely won us over with ‘Reaching’, and he’s sure to gain plenty more fans with his unique sound. Porter Robinson already has an army of those though, but that won’t stop him continually evolving his style and keeping them all guessing as to how he will wow them next. With a movement that started with ‘Sea of Voices’, the breathtakingly emotional ‘Sad Machine’ is out to prove that his upcoming album Worlds will be unlike anything we’ve heard before. Forget just plain chill, this song will leave you with chills, and that’s before the last minute of this masterpiece has tugged those heartstrings even harder. Following up last week’s dojo entry with his winning remix of Kilter’s ‘They Say’, Aussie producer Omniment is back with a fun take on ‘Pumpin Blood’ to get your whole body moving. It’s filled with all those sweet bouncy vibes that are taking over the Australian scene and beyond in 2014, so make this one a necessity in your next summer playlist.

From feels to smiles and everything in between, gear yourself for a musical roller-coaster this week. Enjoy the ride. Peace out.

[Deep House] Fabich & Ferdinand Weber, Dinnerdate – Souls Together

Fabich & Ferdinand Weber, Dinnerdate
Souls Together

Here at TMN, we’ve been big advocates of the chill house sounds that have been coming out of Germany this year, with artists like Dinnerdate and duo Fabich & Ferdinand Weber consistently raising the bar with every release. So when we found out that the these forces had begun to combine for a host of new music in the works, it’s fair to say excitement levels were pretty damn high. One listen to their first glorious collaboration and you’ll agree that the hype was very much deserved. ‘Souls Together’ is a result of exactly what the phrase describes, brilliant minds coming together to create a moment of bliss in the form of this soulful jam. We’ll be keeping a close eye on what they have in store for us in the very near future. Until then, our ears will continue to savor the smooth flavor of this mellow delight.

Madison Avenue – Don’t Call Me Baby (2014 Remixes)

A lot’s changed in the world of house music since 1999, but Madison Avenue’s cult hit ‘Don’t Call Me Baby’ is a classic that has stood the test of time, and would still easily get crowds buzzing in any modern set. Nevertheless, the team over at Vicious recordings have assembled a remix package to mark this 15 year anniversary in style, re-imagining the original for the current day audience and highlighting how the electronic scene has evolved from then to now. Probably the best example of that development in musical styles is the version from young Australian producer Just A Gent. At only 16 years of age, he likely only started walking when the original first hit the charts, and yet his wonky off-beat jam manages to reinterpret it perfectly for the varied tastes of today’s listener. On the flip-side, the package also contains the veteran influence of Tommie Sunshine, who weighs in alongside The Disco Fries for a more conservative approach. Rather than reinvent the wheel, this remix respects the enduring groove of the original, amplifying the different elements of production where necessary and providing a thorough update to this track to make it ready-built for the dancefloors of 2014. The other one we’re calling out is from the remix competition winner Filterkat, hailing from Australia’s Gold Coast. With an infectious funk and insane effort on the beat, this nu-disco edit is ready to elevate any summertime dance playlist to the next level. Altogether this makes for a complete time-machine experience for the 1999 hit single, transporting it 15 years into the future and showing off all the production qualities we get to enjoy in this amazing era of dance music.

The package is available on Beatport now.
