[Dance] Juun feat. Sam Smith – When It’s Alright

Juun feat. Sam Smith
When It's Alright

It’s no secret we are big advocates of German duo Fabich and Ferdinand Weber here at TMN, and we’ve been telling you they’re definitely a name to keep an eye on this year. Well what you might not know is their new project Juun is one you need to add to the watch list as well, as their debut release here will be sure to prove. New moniker aside, the uplifting style embedded into this track’s DNA is undeniably the handiwork of these two gents. Combine the bright synths with the poppy vocals of Sam Smith and you have yourself a sun-drenched tune that’s ready to make waves over summer. This is one that deserves some serious airtime, and as much as radio stations are notorious for butchering great music with repetitive plays, it would take a good while before we grew sick of hearing this again and again.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #80

Festival season is well and truly upon us, but despite all the videos of enormous crowds erupting in front of spectacular stages, let’s not forget that music is just as powerful and inspiring flowing through your headphones when you need it most. If you need an example of this jaw-dropping quality, just peek our first track from the always surprising Lindsay Lowend. Now taking Ciara’s ‘Body Party’ and re-imagining it with 90’s videogame soundfonts was always going to be just for a bit of fun, but you’d be a fool to not take the musical finesse behind this one seriously. From the amazing chord progression to the infectious funk layered throughout, LL continually shows his beat game is at the next-level. It’s always heartening to see good music given the recognition it deserves in this age of content sharing, and the story of Canadian duo Rainer & Grimm was exactly that this week, rocketing to the top of Hype Machine with an incredible remix of new Sam Smith. The deep house vibes are a perfect match for the emotional vocals of ‘Stay With Me’, giving us a shining example of tunes best enjoyed amongst the company of just one special person.

We’ve been building up the return of summer in recent weeks, but consider it officially upon us now that we’ve been blessed with a new “Jet Life” remix from the only man fit to herald in this great season. Sure it’s not calendar official yet, but who really cares when you live according to Viceroy’s “Summertime all the time” motto and have this classic Nelly remake to bounce to. It’s been far too long since our last dose of “Jet Life”, but we know you remember all the words to this one. We’ve well and truly kick-started the dance vibes now, so who better to carry this playlist forward than Oliver Nelson, who gifts us with two new remixes in a matter of days. Better yet, they’re both dripping with that jammin’ disco flavor that we’ve come to love from the Swedish maestro. If that’s not enough big names in one write-up, then a new Goldroom remix should be enough to put the cream on the cake. And how sweet this one is too, pure musical bliss. But before we wrap this one up, it would be remiss not to highlight the seductively smooth new release from Sebastian Carter earlier in the week, so make sure you didn’t let that one slip through amidst all the Coachella buzz.

At the end of the day, good music is good music, it doesn’t matter where you enjoy it. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #79

Dojo number 79 is absolutely bursting at the seams with amazing music, and though they are all worthy of kind words, we can’t let time spent reading take away from that which could be used to discover it for yourselves. It also doesn’t help that this Naughty Boy bootleg from Jarreau Vandal has left us speechless within a few brief moments of listening. Smooth is one word that comes to mind…many times over. So, so smooth. Between the jazzy melody and sultry vocal edit, this has had some serious soul injected into its waveforms. If that hasn’t already brought a smile to your face, then this next one will have you grinning from ear to ear. Showing that age is no barrier, 16 year old Norwegian talent WRLD has sprung out of nowhere to stake his claim in the musical world of future bass. With a sound immediately recognizable to that of Wave Racer, your ears will have no trouble soaking this one right up. You’d do well to keep a close eye on this kid. Something that did escape our gaze before now is Druid Cloak’s super fun take on ‘Rice Rain’. Cashmere Cat material always makes for very interesting results, and this edit is up there as one of the best when it comes to great vibes and pure easy listening. The vocals of Patrick Baker are certainly something that evoke the same sentiment, so whenever a remix surfaces you best believe we’re quick on the draw. One mix that deserves your attention comes from aspiring producer Carnizzy, who has layered his version with a dreamy ambience and slick beat that suit the style of the original to a tee. To continue this trend of astounding young newcomers, 19 year old Canadian Elkoe announces his inception with tropical fanfare. The influences of Kygo and Thomas Jack are instantly identifiable here, and it seems a lot of the world took notice, because this Passenger remix has already seen his name sit atop the Hypem charts within a matter of days. That definitely won’t be a one-off occurrence either. And speak of the devil, Thomas Jack also gifted us with a more summertime glory overflowing with good feelings. The combination of his signature sound with the folk stylings of Benjamin Francis Leftwich has been a proven success in past, so this take on ‘Snowship’ only continues to build on this winning formula. Once you start with the summer sounds, it’s really hard to stop, so it’s lucky that Robotaki is feeling these same urges and has made very good use of these Miami Horror stems. This word gets thrown around in just about every write-up at least once, but this is the track is our honorary jam for the week. Face it, you’re already singing along aren’t you? Great songs inspire great covers, and this piece of disco magic from killer French duo J-Art and Madan is an absolute gem. Paola Bennet has done a stellar job with ‘Pompeii’, and together with the production work from these two, the results are mesmerizing. The list of stunning music goes much further than this though, with new tunes from Slumberjack, Just A Gent, Lazerdisk, CRNKN and Empia. This would be a far greater wall of text if we gave every one of them the feature they deserve.

What we can give them though is plenty of plays, and that’s something we strongly advise with this list. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #78

It’s a stress-busting edition of feel-good tunes for dojo number 78, so welcome the grind with open arms knowing we’ve got the perfect playlist to get you through. Soulful blues singer/songwriter Kelvin Jones has very quickly shot to internet fame in 2014 with his display of talent across a number of covers and originals. ‘Call You Home’ has been without a doubt his greatest success, attracting not only mass viewership but also inspiring deep house edits from around Europe which will only grow his exposure further. Norway’s Jam Couche and Germany’s Felix Jaehn have teamed up to transform this into a summer-ready anthem, bolstering the appeal of the original with a charming melody lead by none other than the xylophone. We’ve sung the praises of this underrated instrument before, and it’s something which will instantly propel a track into this playlist without a second listen. Between this and the gorgeous acoustics of MOWE’s popular bootleg edition, we just couldn’t separate them. We’re happy to give the Austrian duo equal share of the props for these two stunning interpretations. There are a few hidden treasures when it comes to the artists featured this week, and none more so than Lobo, Hailing from the UK, this young producer is one we’d put money on seeing in many future playlists this year. Take a listen to the nu-disco jam ‘Wonder Be Free’ and you’ll tend to agree, he’s got the recipe for a slick chill tune down pat. There’s no questioning the skills of dojo favourite Galimatias when it comes to this area, and when you combine this with the melodic firepower of Haywyre, it’s guaranteed sparks will fly. This comes in the form of the dangerously funky ‘Voice of Reason’, which flaunts a goosebump-inducing vibe and mesmerizing beat. Just an insanely good production hands down. But what’s a Chill Dojo without a dose of future sounds from down under? This week Perth’s Palace has us covered with some tropical heat in ‘Slow Burn’, which is just too damn catchy for it’s own good. You’ll be bouncing to this one all summer. We’re keeping that groove going though, because DJ AA is back and he’s brought with him an RnB blast from the past. His latest bootleg is a mash of hits from different times, taking vocals from the 90’s jam ‘My Love is the Shhh!’ and blending them seamlessly with Fakear’s excellent Flume remix. It doesn’t matter what generation you fancy, this bootleg specialist will find the perfect vocals to fit any chill music from today. If we had the time, we’d write up the entire playlist this week, but we can’t end proceedings without mentioning the glorious jazz-hop sounds of French beatmaker 20syl. Unique music is golden in this day and age, and the fact that we are amazed each and every week with talent like this is a gift.

It’s ours to share though, and spreading good music like this is what keeps us going every day. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #77

Every so often a truly unique sound surfaces on the web, and the power of originality alone can create a sensation that simply needs to be shared. There’s not much out there about the mysterious moniker Point Point, but what we can tell you is that ‘Life in Grey’ is unlike anything you’ve heard before. It’s hard to describe just how good the level of production is on this one, but it certainly stamped itself as the track of the week in an instant. Porter Robinson made similar waves with ‘Sea of Voices’, which shook the need for any bass with the use of sheer musical emotion instead. Of course in this era a remix is never far away, but thankfully there are plenty out there which respect the beauty of the original, and maintain a serene atmosphere just perfect for the Chill Dojo. Spaveech and RAC are our top choices for sure, so check them below if you crave music that makes you feel. On the flipside, we have plenty of love for mellow edits of the big hits as well, and Rossi Sure’s fresh take on ‘Take Me Home’ will make you forgive the amount of times you’ve heard the radio bleed the track dry. Forget about heavy drops, the bright melodic hook is the perfect new direction to take this Cash Cash banger. Sydney’s Hayden James is no stranger to innovation either, and this week’s trick is a glorious combination of Rufus and some renowned Australian future sound. This song is pure feels, and the vocals will let you know that many times over. That’s certainly triggered a desire for more sultry beats, and luckily Royal’s refix of ‘Crave You’ is just what the doctor ordered. You’re sure to have heard the iconic lyrics countless times in past, but the young beatmaker amplifies the vibes to maximum for a tune just saturated in good feelings.  Kygo’s exceptional edit of ‘Cut Your Teeth’ would have left plenty of listeners content to call game over for any other producers attempting a remix. It’s a good thing that brothers Hippie Sabotage didn’t share the same attitude, because otherwise we would never get to experience the tingling sensation from their gorgeous downtempo rendition. You’ll also notice new stuff from names like Koan Sound and Skrillex, who continue to amaze with the versatility of the sounds they are capable of. We’ve preached this many times before, but never box an artist into one style or genre, because you’ll never expect when they might show up here.

It’s been a week stacked in awesome discoveries, so there will be plenty here to amaze you. Peace out.
