[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #70

It’s a winning combination of future and classic sounds this week, which makes for the perfect mixed bag of candy for your ears. It’s just the type of music which might make a big victory even sweeter, or help ease the pains of a thrashing of epic proportions.

Whatever side of the fence you were on, it’s impossible not be a fan of this new fun-packed remix from dojo favourite Lindsay Lowend. The feverish master of bass has molded an 8-bit slow jam from Anamanaguchi’s ‘Prom Night’ and it sure knows how to show you a good time. If people are yet to take notice of this producer, this is the track to change the game. We’ve talked about them before, but West Australian duo Slumberjack are definitely ones to watch as well, dabbling in that infectious sweet sound coming out of Oz right now. This teaser for their new remix of ‘Hanging On’ was just too good to refuse, but will leave you desperately wanting more, so make sure to cop the full track out now. Cashmere Cat’s Wedding Bells EP is no doubt one of the best releases of the year so far, and French beatmaker Phazz has gone in with a remix that is crazy good. Taking signature Cashmere vibes and smashing them together with breathtaking melodies makes for one hell of mix, and we are just itching for this one to be released. But wait, there are more crazy beats and breaks are coming straight at you from dynamic duo AO Beats and Manila Killa, and we will not be held responsible for any damage incurred after the uncontrollable body moving that ensues. Luckily, we can slow things back down with this sultry wonder courtesy of a newly surfaced name in EMOJI KING. Though not much is known about this mysterious producer (or side project), one thing for sure is that he/she has already set plenty of hearts on fire with this one, ours included. These mad vibes continue from the likes of Tajan, Mr. Carmack and Mawhs, before we switch things up in a chill house direction. This comes courtesy of an alluring deep remake of the Galantis single ‘Smile’ from Denver duo Action 52. The smooth vocals from the original delve into some very soulful territory, forming a dangerous combination with the irresistibly hypnotic groove layered throughout.

So no matter the outcome from the big game, there’s no way anybody can intercept the vibes flowing from this week’s playlist. Peace out.

[Deep House] Boy – Railway (Daniele Di Martino Edit) [TMN Premiere]

Boy
Railway (Daniele Di Martino Edit)

There has been a trend of stunning deep house music coming from Germany of late, and Daniele Di Martino has added to that list a hauntingly beautiful edit of an indie cult hit from Boy. It’s not often that gorgeous indie originals can retain their same essence after undergoing the remix treatment, but there is a certain element to the production behind this that still makes it all seem impeccably pure. True to this style of music, the vocals have taken on a deeper flavour, and together with the melancholic strings layered throughout there is somehow a feeling of real solace. This in combination with the percussion-induced head bopping makes this track a treasure just waiting to be discovered. You’re in luck though because we’re happy to share it.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #69

It didn’t take long at all, but 2014 has already wowed us with a stack of new chill goodness, providing over 40 new tracks for the biggest playlist so far. There’s a lot to dig into here, so let’s cut to the chase.

His remix of ‘La La La’ was one of the dojo’s favorites of last year, so it’s very exciting to see the name Oliver Nelson popping up so early in the year again. The Swedish nuDisco producer is clearly out to make a statement too, taking on another big challenge in remixing Chromeo’s classic, ‘Night by Night’. There was never any doubt he was up to the task, and it’s safe to say his fresh touch is a perfect tribute to the original, filled with all his signature groovy trimmings. Another name you can have instant faith in after a big 2013 is Norway’s Kygo. You can be sure that TMN had this one covered as soon as it surfaced, but for our own pleasure as much as yours we’re revisiting this remix of ‘Cut Your Teeth’, because we just can’t get enough of his bouncy tropical style. Next on the stream list is a charming tune from young Canadian Rezonate off his recent Prelude EP. It’s easy to get lost amongst the sweet melodies and ear candy painted throughout ‘Canvas’, and at the heart of it all is a truly resonating message. It’s the kind of positivity we love to share in these playlists, and your day will definitely be better for it. It’s always a good day when there’s new Bondax, so consider your week made with the free download of their take on ‘Always’. Anything this duo touch of late has been sure to garner rapid attention on the net, but the quality of this quick edit alone gives plenty of reason why. A few weeks back the St.Lucia EP from Vallès graced the front page of our site, but one remix on the release that escaped a mention was this downright funky effort from Vanilla. Don’t fear for lost time though, you’ll make it up pretty quickly by the amount of times you’ll want this one on repeat. We know there’s a lot to get through though, but there’s a couple of fun surprises waiting right at the bottom of the list which may just spark some nostalgic feelings. It’s worth getting to the end.

We’ll leave the reading here for now, your ears are going to be busy. Peace out.

[Deep House] The Weeknd – Devil May Cry (Fabich & Ferdinand Weber Edit)

The Weeknd
Devil May Cry (Fabich & Ferdinand Weber Edit)

In the right hands, powerful vocals can be channeled into an entirely new experience from what was originally envisioned for a song. It doesn’t really cross one’s mind that the raw emotion of The Weeknd’s ‘Devil May Cry’ could be transformed into a deep house production, but German duo Fabich and Ferdinand Weber possess a creativity that can bridge that gap. Their chilled edit of the original ballad proves that their execution is as good as their ideas, with a lush acoustic soundscape carrying listeners through a journey of much warmer feelings. The stunning vocals still remain at the forefront of this tune though, with the rhythmic builds expertly crafted around climactic lyrical moments throughout the track. Even better it’s a free download, so there’s no excuse not to inspire your creative side with a new perspective.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #68

And we’re back! After a bit of a break the Chill Dojo is ready to launch into the new year with its signature lineup of stellar tunes discovered over the holiday period. 2013 was a massive year and we can’t wait to see what 2014 has to offer. If this first edition is any indication, we’re in for a very enjoyable time.

We kick things off with a golden cover of a track that has seen plenty of remixes featured in past playlists. Le Youth’s ‘C O O L’ has been the gift that keeps on giving for lovers of chill music, and this sultry RnB cover from London duo July Child certainly continues this trend. The amazing vocals alone were enough to sell us on this one, but when the beat kicked in just after the minute mark consider us well and truly under its spell. 2013 was an incredible year of releases for the Future Classic label, and one that happened to slip past us late in the year was an uplifting remix of Panama courtesy of none other than Cosmo’s Midnight. In signature fashion they put their retro style on full display in a way that is sure to make you smile. This song doesn’t have a care in the world, and that’s something we can all appreciate. Fans of that feeling will love another recently discovered gem from young Canadian prodigy Syre. One listen and you’ll agree that we’re sure to hear more from this talented producer in the dojo this year. If you were caught napping early last week, you may have missed this feature on a fresh new tune from Sydney’s Empia. We heard a lot of this rich electronic sound coming out of this city last year, and we’re more than happy for a good thing to continue into 2014. It’s going to be a long while before we’ve had enough of this style. Another thing sure to keep on this year is seeing Stwo dominate the various playlists on the site. If you happened to miss the latest from him in recent weeks, then let this be a reminder that he’s not one to sleep on.

So did you miss us? We could only keep these tracks to ourself for so long. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Christmas Chill Dojo #2

It’s crazy to think that it’s already been another year since our first Chillmas dojo, but we’re far too preoccupied with kicking back to the amazing music that 2013 has delivered to even care about how time flies. It’s time once again to get festive with our gift to you in another stacked playlist overflowing with presents for your ears. So amidst all the Christmas rush, take some time to treat yourself and chill out. It’s the holiday season after all.

It’s only fitting that we kick things off with one of the biggest stories of 2013, the Hypem Chart climber himself in Kygo. The young Norwegian has certainly made a name for himself this year with a steady stream of brilliant downtempo remixes, and he continues his wave of success with another genius edit. In signature fashion, Kygo elevates the beautiful vocals to float atop his cloud of happiness, with the usual splashes of tropical flavour and infectious bouncing bassline. And while we’re riding that wave of ecstasy, dojo favourites Goldroom are there to continue this feeling with their synth-pop rendition of ‘All Eyes on You” featured last week. You know the deal when it comes to the best of nu-disco acts out there, but there’s nothing like a good sax solo to really seal it. It must really be the silly season, because it’s not often we throw the name Justin Bieber around these parts, but Manila Killa has delivered a Christmas gift that is well worth a bite. He has certainly worked his magic on this flip, because this lush mix will actually make you swallow your pride and jam out to Biebz like an obsessed pre-teen. Just roll with it, we won’t judge. There’s definitely no conflict in pumping some Lindsay Lowend though, and the next level production in ‘Basement Dweller Overture’ is like a journey through sound. Prepare yourself for what comes at the 2 minute mark, because it may just rock your world. Stwo was another revelation in 2013, and the master beatmaker has been nonstop all year. It’s poetic that we have another smooth remix to get lost in before the year is up. And so cues the mellow part of the playlist, with Belgium’s WiSkiM to carry us away with an ambient masterpiece, layered with gorgeous sampling of Ellie Goulding.

That wraps up another incredible year of music, and there’s no doubt that 2014 will only deliver more creativity that will further blow our minds. In true chill fashion, the dojo will be taking a little break for a while to relax and refresh for everything the new year brings. Until then, keep it cool over these holidays. Peace out.
