[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #66

So it’s that busy time of the year again when everything can get all too much in the lead up to Christmas. Don’t fear though, because some of our favourite artists have been working away as well, and as a result we have another stacked edition for a much needed dose of chill.

Chicago’s mashup machine, Ricky Cervantes, takes sultry to the next level with the sexiest of lounge mixes, blending the vocals of Ellie Goulding with the smooth production of Penthouse Penthouse. We don’t need to point out what music like this should be used for, so make sure you enjoy it in the best way possible. But that’s not the only thing that will bring a smile to your face this week, because that is Wave Racer’s specialty and he’s outdone himself again with another summer anthem. His sound is like pure happiness bottled into 3 minutes. Simply replay again and again for lasting effects. Fellow Sydney producer Basenji boasts a similar game with a style much akin to Cashmere Cat. His name was all over the Trap Dojo this week, but the chill vibe of ‘Dawn’ was simply too good not to highlight again in this playlist. Any guesses where our next featured artist comes from? There’s definitely something special happening in Sydney right now, because talented duo Cosmo’s Midnight also let loose a double A-side single that too is ready-built for the hot Australian summer. We just can’t get enough of that bouncy future sound, and it won’t take long before you’re hooked on it as well. The Sydney takeover continues with Flume’s right hand man and other half of What So Not, Emoh Instead, who switches things up with a deep house remix of Elizabeth Rose’s club hit, ‘The Good Life’. This one is sure to dominate the festival season down-under, but it will likely induce sweaty dancing wherever it’s played. Ok, time to leave Australia now, but that’s only because our favourite Canadian Kaytranada has enticed us over with another one of his signature jams, this time going to work on the upcoming Disclosure remix album. The vibe is everything you’ve come to expect from one of the very best in the game right now, so don’t go sleeping on this one. And if this has suddenly brought on an intense craving for more beats, Paris’ Fitzroy can satisfy your needs with this track off his newly released Noah EP. It’s a guaranteed head-bopper.

All this music has sure kept us busy as well. Make sure to save some time for yourself in this next week. Peace out.

Anytime a new Bondax track is released, you just know it’s going to be a good week for the Chill Dojo. That together with all the other amazing tunes in our playlist again prove that to be the truth for this edition.

As for the song in question, ‘Fires’ opens in a majestic fashion as can be expected from the prodigious UK duo. The stunning vocals of Josh Record make the opening minute a simple joy to listen to. And then there’s what comes next. Words actually can’t do it justice. You’ll just have to listen for yourself. Is there even a point in trying to describe what Bondax do? We do need to include something in this write-up though, so instead we can talk about the smooth stylings of Cherokee and their work on this Amerie classic. As we’ve been taught numerous times before, this seasoned French duo have a way with funk, and the bassline on this remix will quickly have you under its spell. While we’re high on this groovy feeling, let’s kick things up a notch with this absolute jam from another Frenchman in Jean Tonique. There are some things that the French just do better, so there’s no way to decipher how exactly he has made this fresh Jay-Z remix so goddamn funky. You’ll be too busy in a state of uncontrollable dancing to even care anyway. Now this dojo isn’t known for posting a whole lot of progressive house, but every so often there’ll be a special tune we come across with the perfect vibe for what we stand for. MaHi’s latest release is a prime example of this, with ‘Wake Up’ providing dreamy melodies and an uplifting feeling that just needed to be shared. Since the dojo’s first beginnings, we’ve seen plenty of unknown chill producers set the blogosphere alight with a consistent stream of amazing music. One of the hottest names right now is Kygo, and this week we were given another reason to be heaping praise on the young Norwegian. No stranger to the top of the Hypem charts, Kygo has quickly scaled them once more with this beautiful take on Ed Sheeran’s ‘I See Fire’. His charming melodies and infectious percussion are once again on full display for another track to be replayed again and again. And if you still can’t get enough, check out edit from DJ AA for a different blend. We could keep writing about this week’s additions forever, but we’ll keep things short so you have more time to enjoy the newest jams from our favourite beatmakers like Mr. Carmack, IAMNOBODI, and Flofilz.

Enough talk, more chilling. Peace out

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #64

At this time of the year when we declare our appreciation for the things we are thankful for, it goes without saying that we owe a lot to the great music in our lives. The melodies, beats, rhythms and vocals that float in and out of our heads all add something indescribable to our days, and what better way to celebrate this than by sharing more of our favourite chill tunes from the past week.

A new single from Flight Facilities is definitely something worth writing home about, and this is one song that includes all the amazing things we just alluded to. The sweet vocals of Micky Green bring a relaxing vibe to this upbeat jam, and with one half of Snakehips also chiming in on the mix, this is one star-studded production to be played on and on. Australian producers have been on a tear all year, and as the Summer season kicks in down under the awesome volume of chill tracks will only continue to grow. When two very different Aussie musical outfits collide in the one production, as occurred last week in this feature of Kilter remixing dream-pop sensation Snakadaktal, you’re guaranteed a dose of sun-drenched goodness. And that’s exactly the vibe of this tropical delight, which will breathe life back into even the most miserable of days. That uplifting feeling can be quite addicting though, and thankfully this latest freebie from Kaskade will keep this feeling flowing on. There’s a hell of a lot of love mixed into this mellow groove, and it’s definitely one to play when you’re surrounded by the special people in your life. It’s time to amp up the chill beats though, and this Thanksgiving present from Esta will do the trick nicely. There are places where only certain sounds can take us, and ‘Moet’ is a straight-up smooth jam that is guaranteed to take you to wherever your zone is. There’s not a lot to find on the mysterious Parkinson White, but what can be easily said is that ‘Irregular’ will give you an instant feeling of undeniable happiness. It’s music like this that is truly special, so we can only hope there’s much more to come from this name in the future. It’s also this quality in a song that makes Wave Racer’s work so good to listen to, and a fellow Australian beatmaker in Sable has added his own flavour to ‘Rock U Tonite’ for a fun new take on the popular original.

So once again we declare our love for each and every artist that allow us to pick out this playlist each week. We hope you feel it too. Peace out.

Not a week goes by when we’re not talking about the young French beatmaker stwo, but that really can’t be helped considering the consistent fire he produces on a regular basis. This time he works his magic with the sultry vocals of JMSN, and the result is an irresistable slow jam that you need to hear. Forget the wine and candles, next time you’re with that special someone, this is all you’ll need to set the mood right. And while we’re on the subject, let’s direct our attention back to this recent feature of Kygo’s take on ‘Sexual Healing’. By now you should be well aware of our love for the Norwegian’s tropical transformations, and it seems even this Marvin Gaye classic can be dancefloor-ready under his signature style. German duo Gamper & Dadoni are no strangers to a dancefloor hit either, and their smooth rework of Claptone’s ‘No Eyes’ is sure to set many alight all over the globe. The deep house groove together with that sexy sax is an infectious combination for sure, adding a freshness which has become the staple of this pair’s production. Wayward ensures the vibes keep flowing with a super catchy remix of ‘Run’, providing a warm spin on the emotional original courtesy of those stunning keys. There’s plenty more beats where that came from though, with Moods at his very best once again with another late night jam, and Pomo hitting us with a new original which will take over your body and induce uncontrollable groovin. And just in case you missed it, we end with a throwback to Dinner Date’s premiere on the site last week with his remix of Angus & Julia Stone. Even if you didn’t, it was always a sure-fire addition to the dojo and definitely worth hearing again.

That’s the playlist as we see it for another week. Enjoy it in any way you please. Peace out.

[Deep House] Angus & Julia Stone – All Of Me (Dinner Date Remix) [TMN Premiere]

Angus & Julia Stone
All Of Me (Dinner Date Remix)

Germany’s Simon Hoppe, better known as Dinner Date, has a knack for remixing folksy tunes and transforming them into the perfect ingredient for any deep house set. He caught our attention before with his stunning take on DAWA’s ‘Roll the Dice’, and now he’s back to bring his signature style to Angus & Julia Stone.  It’s a special skill to give an element of danceability to a song while still retaining all the emotion that oozes from the original, but it’s a graceful art that this producer certainly has down pat. The atmosphere crafted into this remix is mesmerising, and the ebb and flow of percussion and acoustics all breathe in harmony with the beautiful vocals. Big thanks to Simon for giving us the chance to premiere this on TMN, and we can’t wait to hear what he will bring his magic touch to next.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #62

It’s the same old story. You tell yourself this weekend you’re going to take it easy and catch up on some rest, but Monday comes around and you’ve had even less sleep than the working days before it. Don’t despair though, cos even though the weekend may have come and gone, we can still ease you into the week in the best way possible. Who said chilling out was just for the weekend anyway?

With their summer quickly approaching, Australian producers have been the subject of many Chill dojo write-ups recently, and Sydney’s Hayden James is continuing that trend with a standout remix of ‘Without You’ that has plenty of bloggers talking. The gentle builds and atmospheric pads make this the perfect track for early morning listening, and the integration of the piano provides a touch of melancholy to the haunting vocals. Now if you didn’t think it was possible for Stwo’s ‘Virgo’ to get any sexier, Jarreau Vandal has flipped this attitude on its head with a downright irresistible rework that will have you at the mercy of the beat and hypnotic snare rolls. An eargasm in the truest sense of the word, just sit down and listen, this song will do the rest. Long time listeners of the Chill Dojo should be familiar with jazzy hip hop flavour of Germany’s FloFilz, but his latest rework of classic ATCQ is sure to get people’s attention. His production on this track has undergone the care that an artisan would take on an antique, and the result is a vintage sound that could have been plucked right out of the nineties. Over 15 years on and it still hasn’t lost its freshness. This next feature only took a minute to rack up hundreds of thousands of plays on Soundcloud, but with the big names involved it’s not hard to see why. ‘Together’ brings a whole host of lyrical and producing talent into one package, and the result truly speaks for itself. If you somehow missed this one a few days ago, you mustn’t keep yourself in the dark any longer. It’s been far too long since our last dose of FKJ freshness, but our yearning has come to an end with a stunning remix of the smooth Cherokee original. The song’s opening treats us to a gorgeous downtempo treatment of the vocals before the funky Frenchman hits his stride with the signature style in what has to be his most intricate piece of work to date. If you still can’t get enough, we’re following up with another beautiful interpretation courtesy of the UK’s T.H.I.E.F.S, who brings us into the realm of super chill house. The Hypem charts have quickly fallen in love with another Aussie in Thomas Jack, so we definitely couldn’t pass up highlighting this recent post of this tropical jam. With plenty of classical influence, this music has an authentic charm that can’t help but make you smile.

So here’s hoping this week will be as easy on you as this playlist is for your ears. Peace out.

It hasn’t been a while since we last wrote about Koan Sound and Asa, but they are at it again, this time calling in fellow Inspected label-mates Culprate and Reso for some extra collaboration on our favourite tune of the week.  ‘Cascade’ is the result of two days of solid studio time, all to raise money for Movember and men’s health. But it’s a feel-good track for many more reasons than that, because this downtempo delight is layered with articulate drums, gorgeous piano melodies and a dreamy atmosphere that carries you away. This week we were also treated to some new Flume, which is always a catalyst for the blogosphere to make plenty of noise. Again the Australian artist proves he can do no wrong, delivering a chilled symphonic masterpiece featuring the stunning vocals of Isabella Manfredi.  Another voice of serenity we can’t get enough of is Foxes, which makes us extremely pleased with the choice for DJ AA’s latest bootleg. Blending the beautiful songstress together with the sweet beats of Stwo is a combination that makes for some truly blissful listening, and you’ll wish it could go on forever. Luckily we have a tasty serving of French House to follow up with thanks to the ever smooth stylings of Kartell, who crafts the perfect dancey groove to accompany the soulful flavour of this Dave Hollister classic. Swedish duo Oliver Nelson and Tobtok were also hitting all the right notes this week, their nu-disco version of the popular Naughty Boy chart-topper proving to be the fresh edit we all needed to hear. It’s always a point of contention to say that a particular remix is better than the original track, but all we’ll say is that this one is basicially impossible to hate. While we’re talking new directions, German team Gamper & Dadoni have put their unique spin on another anthem, this time giving ‘Coming Home’ a refresh away from the generic festival remixes,  opting for a more laid-back vibe that is well-suited for the vocals of Skylar Grey. And just when you thought you couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised, in comes that sax solo to steal the show. Bravo gentlemen.

This edition is stacked with great listening, and lots of free downloads too. Peace out.
