[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #18

The end of the year is a time when it’s common practice to make ourselves promises of drastic changes that are going to happen in the year ahead. To all these people with wild resolutions we offer but one bit of advice, chill out. Nothing will magically happen overnight when the calendar clicks over, so don’t sweat it. Just take 2013 as it comes, and do yourself a favor and keep it as easygoing as possible. We’ll do our best to help out along the way.

So before all the partying begins, take this time out at the end of 2012 to reflect on the year that was and the memories that were made. And there is no better tune to match this pensive state than the latest from Prototyperaptor, who tones things down from his usual hard-hitting style to deliver a beautiful piece of downtempo magic that feels like the score to an ending credits sequence. A forewarning on this one, it will evoke some serious nostalgia so prepare yourself for the feels. Next up is a track that is sure to put everyone in a feel-good mood, with the trapstyle edit of ‘Easy’ courtesy of Bring the Noise. It featured a few days ago here on TMN, but the uplifting nature of this release was a must for this final Chill Dojo for the year. Also fitting for this final playlist is another amazing tune from standout performer Sizzlebird, who this time tries his hand at remixing Zedd’s ‘Clarity’ into a chill masterpiece that is a definite standout amongst the saturation of attempts from other artists. And while we’re talking about the highlights of 2012, you can’t go passed Major Lazer’s ‘Get Free’ as one of the chill tracks of the year. We’ve featured quite a few remixes since the dojo’s inception, and the recent rework from Swiss producers Adriatique breathes new life into the popular hit which is perfect to play out as we welcome the start of a new year. Keep on vibing though because the next song by Canada’s Wet Paint is an absolute mellow jam, and that is all that needs to be said. Finally, chill DnB has been one of the more popular requests we’ve received across the weeks, so we conclude the final edition of 2012 with five dreamlike tunes to carry you off into 2013.

And that officially wraps up the Chill Dojo for 2012. We hope that we’ve managed to bring much joy and relaxation to the latter part of your year, and you’ll continue to vibe with us through the good times ahead! Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Christmas Chill Dojo

Alright so a little disclaimer to start with; this edition of the Chill Dojo actually has no relation to Christmas besides its proximity to the date and novelty festive image, so if it immediately raised your hopes for mellow renditions of your favorite carols then consider that bubble burst. No matter though, as between all the stress of last-minute shopping and preparations for the holiday, you are most likely sick to death of them anyway. What is much more useful at this time is some quality relaxing tunes, and thankfully we can provide that in droves.

And on the first song of Chillmas my true love gave to me, a sexy edit of some JT. Vibes are the number one gift on Santa’s list this year, and that is exactly what Australian producer Motez brings to his deep-house rendition of a Timberlake classic. The trend continues with the next present from Chill Dojo regular Lane 8, which like the leftovers from a Christmas feast, will surely be enjoyed for a long time to come. Super catchy. The mood for grooving is definitely in the air with Figgy’s reimagination of ‘How Many Drinks’. And speaking of reinventions, Chrome Sparks’ downtempo take on the high-energy original from Gemini is an absolute marvel. The next 3 surprises in the stocking involve some incredibly chill trap, the highlight being a downright lustful remix of ‘Birthday Sex’ courtesy of Yarin Lidor, a producer hailing from Israel. Moving on to the presents under the tree now, and there is a stack of tracks still to be unwrapped. This week Goldroom unveiled the tracklist to his recent Autunno Mix 2012 for Australian radio station Triple J, and within it lies a massive goody-bag of tropical tunes from the likes of Rotkraft and Good Night Keaton. Regardless of whether it’s summer or snowing in your end of the world this festive season, sounds like this are always welcome year round. But, saving the best gift until last, our final five tracks of this special playlist come from the latest free album, Control, from versatile French producer Uppermost. The whole album is filled with stellar songs, but the standout is without a doubt ‘Beautiful Light’. Such a gorgeous tune that could be repeated endlessly and still be as magical as that first listen.

And so that wraps up the special edition of the Chill Dojo. This is our present from TMN to all you guys. Make sure to regift it to as many of your loved ones as possible like an unwanted Christmas cake. Peace out.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #16

Sometimes humanity can shock us with news that shakes the very foundations of our belief in our fellow person. Times like these are difficult no doubt, and there’s not much that can be said that can make sense of it in any way. But it’s these moments where more than ever, we need a reminder that the world is still a beautiful place, and as much as there is potential for evil, there is so much more good happening everyday that goes unheard. So here’s to all that is good in life, and all those that work towards making the world a better place.

One such example of this beauty is a remix of The xx by a mysterious newcomer to the producing game, Whomi. Not much information exists about this artist, with only one other song on Souncloud which featured in our playlist two weeks ago. But if the vibes in these debut tracks are anything to go by, it’s a name that you will definitely see in dojos to come. Following this is another remix of The xx, courtesy of John Talabot and Pional, who morph the original into a hypnotic house track clocking in at over 8 minutes. The Chill Dojo has seen plenty of remixes of the UK group, but it’s no surprise given the style of their latest album ‘Coexist’, and its potential for mellow reworks. A name which would be far from expected in this playlist is California’s infectious beatmaker TJR, and with a remix of Queen no less! It’s definitely a quirky take on ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, but there is no doubting the chilled vibes it delivers. Revisiting a post from earlier in the week, it was impossible to look past another artist from the Golden State in Broke for Free. This is one of those mellow jams that allow you to lose yourself for a few minutes and just enjoy the sweetness your ears consume. If you’re a regular to our fine establishment, you’ll also find some names you’ve recently grown familiar with in Sizzlebird and WiSkim, who again gift us with some quality free tracks. And finally, who better to feature in our reggae track of the week than the new prince of Rasta, Snoop Lion, who when combined with the production mastery of Major Lazer, is a recipe for pure unfiltered relaxation.

Apologies for the delay on the dojo this week due to some technical hiccups. Hopefully we are still in time to start your week off right. Make it one where you take the initiative to spread the love where you can! Peace out (and emphasis on the peace).

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #15

This week’s Chill Dojo is dedicated to some much-needed recovery. We’ve all been in that situation where by the time you have mustered the strength to claw out of bed, half your Sunday has already slipped by unknowingly. Rather than regret the hours lost, relax into this week’s playlist and make the rest of your day twice as good as before.

To assist with your Sunday recuperation, we’ve enlisted the help of Bondax and their latest single which will be released early next year. We continue to marvel at the maturity of the sounds being put out by teenage producers in electronic music today, and this song is a textbook example of this kind of prodigious talent. Pierce Fulton has been known to dabble in chill productions in between his signature electro house style, and when he comes out with beautiful tunes like his remix of ‘In No Time’, we definitely encourage him to show more of his mellow side. Taking the calming vocals from the alternative rock band Mutemath and layering it over a magical backdrop of enchanting pads and beats, this one is sure to get a ton of replay for the rest of the day. Vocal remakes are definitely the flavour of the week for Chill Dojo #15, with a stunning rework of ‘Everything to Me’ courtesy of DJ Fresh Direct, who definitely lives up to his name with the catchiness of the vibe-inducing beats at play here. Next up are two very different takes on Rihanna, first a haunting chillstep cover from Cry Wolf, and then a gorgeous downtempo remix from Them Jeans. We’re also revisiting a soulful deep house jam from TMN favorite Follow Me which was featured a few weeks ago.  On a final note, there’s plenty of chillstep sprinkled across this edition courtesy of a recent mixtape from Chill Dojo frequenter Cross Them Out.

And that is our heartfelt attempt at making today and this coming week as relaxed as possible. Until next time. Peace out.

[Drumstep] Terravita – Spicy By the Glass

Oh Terravita, what have you gone and done? This one is a game-changer for sure. So here’s the brief of what’s about to go down once you hit play. You’ll be greeted with a funky jam of bass guitar and drums and instantly groove to this fresh approach from these dubstep specialists. Enter the build and the unleashing of raw bass force that you craved since you spied the name of the artist in this post. That alone would be enough to warrant a solid track that would satisfy the needs of filth seekers everywhere. But what elevates this track into greatness is the extreme levels of funk achieved by that hard-hitting jazz breakdown that follows. This is a clash of genres that results in absolute success and the widest grin you will wear all day. Even though you have now been made aware of what’s coming, your body will never be ready.

‘Spicy By the Glass’ was released as part of Terravita’s free Greatest Hits Volume One compilation. You won’t even be halfway through this track before you realise that you should really grab the whole thing.

[Future Funk] Grizmatik – Digital Liberation is Mad Freedom

What do you get when you combine two of the funkiest electronic producers in the game right now? The answer: one of the most exciting artist collaborations to happen in 2012 and hopefully a long time to come. Forget about any other equation you’ve learnt in your lifetime. Griz + Gramatik = Grizmatik is all you need to know. Now mash together the titles of their respective albums, Mad Liberation and #digital freedom, and you have yourself the perfect debut track. Everything about this artist collaboration is a match made in heaven. On paper, on a screen, through your speakers. It all just makes perfect sense.

After teasing eagerly awaiting fans for the past few weeks, #DLIMF has finally been released, and with these two artists being some of the strongest supporters of free music, you can be rest assured they are gifting us once again with the download. The track itself is everything you could hope for from the combined forces of these two giants of funk, feeding your soul with infectious breaks and your lust for gritty electronic synths. And then comes the drop, a clear statement from the duo that they aren’t afraid to get down and dirty. These artists have never been content with being pigeon-holed into one style of production, and if this is any indication of the potential of their unified powers, then just about anything is possible. It’s fair to say that excitement levels are pretty damn high for what they come up with next.

[MP3 Playlist] The Chill Dojo #14

Finally, the great milestone has arrived with instalment #14 of The Chill Dojo. What, 14 isn’t a milestone number you say? Well there needs to be some excuse for this super-sized edition of 20 tracks, other than the fact that it’s been an awesome week for chill music. Since December has finally rolled around once again, we’ll call it getting into the festive spirit. This time of the year is usually the most stressful with everything going on, so the more calming tunes we can provide the better.

And there’s no better person to turn to for a gentle dose of repose than Goldroom, who this week released a new single capturing a moment of summer paradise like only he knows how. Everything about this song is classic Goldroom, with beautiful melodies, perfect flow and entrancing female vocals. What more needs to be said? Another dojo favorite returns this week in Satin Jackets, releasing an older gem for free that is just so easy to vibe to. The sound here is incredibly versatile, suitable for long drives, dancefloor groovin’ or a classy cafe atmosphere. We first debuted some of Sizzlebird’s production a few weeks back, and told you he would be a recurring name in playlists to come. True to our word and his amazing talent he is back with another gorgeous ambient treat to fall in love with. UK group Rudimental have been blowing up since the release of ‘Not Giving In’, and in celebration gave away their collaboration with US rapper Angel Haze. You won’t typically see much hip hop in the chill dojo as it’s well covered in other areas of the site, but the production is at the forefront of this track and is so tight that it was too good to pass up. Other names to watch in this playlist include Atlantic Connection, who brings some chill dnb and downtempo goodness, as well as three servings of funk courtesy of the latest free EP from French Kiwi Juice.

You can tell it’s going to be a good week to come with so much amazing music to share. Start it off right by listening, downloading and spreading those vibes. Peace out.
