[Electronic] Raffertie – Build Me Up

Raffertie
Build Me Up

Now I’m not really hoping for new Mariah Carey material anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate new tunes that reference her work, especially those ’90s classics. Here’s one such track by London producer Raffertie. Borrowing from Carey’s 1993 hit “Dreamlover”, “Build Me Up” is what happens when you drag a hit pop song through some fuzzy, unforgiving, bass-heavy spheres. It’s part static, part futuristic club throbber, bumpin’ hard and slow through riffs of thick noise and zapping laser effects. It sure as hell isn’t a Billboard chart-topper, but is familiar enough to carve out some space in your playlist.

“Build Me Up” is the lead single from Raffertie’s new EP, out May 20th via Ninja Tune.

[Chill] Teen Daze – Light & Love

Teen Daze
Light & Love

“Light & Love” is a gorgeous, weaving new instrumental track courtesy of Canada’s own Teen Daze. Though it keeps up with a steady, upbeat pace and has its fair share of twists and turns, it’s completely soothing at every bend — almost like listening to one of those calming “Nature” CDs of trickling rain and crashing waves — and paints such a soft and comforting audible picture for any listener. The song was written to raise awareness for School Of Seven Bells band member Benjamin Curtis, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Check out the track and also visit this site to donate what you can towards Curtis’ cause.

Vampire Weekend – Step

Yesterday we brought you Vampire Weekend‘s “Diane Young” — a slightly different twist (though still inventively awesome) on what we’ve come to expect from the New York outfit. Today, we feature another new song called “Step”, which should sound more familiar to the ears of those longtime VW fans, as it does hearken back more to both the Contra and self-titled LPs days. If these two songs are any indication of the rest of their forthcoming album, Modern Vampires Of The City, then we’re in for quite a good collection of forward-thinking music that’s still somewhat grounded in Vampire’s successful tradition. Listen to the track and also peep its official lyric video below.
