[NEW] London Grammar – Metal & Dust

We previously fell in love with the English trio London Grammar back when they shared the chill, impressive number “Hey Now” in December. Now, they’re back to win our hearts over again with a new track called “Metal & Dust”. As expected, it’s soulful and soothing, packed with enough emotion and sentiment to wake up any sleepy or broken heart. And as with their previous single, the real beauty is in the simplicity, in the sincerity — the three-piece hardly ever get flashy and, instead, stick to a solid script of a sparing use of electronics and effects, lush vocals, and strong knack for resonating pop.

“Metal & Dust” will be included on a limited edition 7″ later this month. Pre-order it.

[Electronica] Sir Sly – Easy Now

After sharing the impressive cuts “Ghost” and “Gold” over the last few months, Los Angeles three-piece Sir Sly are back with yet another offering in the form of “Easy Now”. Sometimes haunting, but always stirring electronic-tinged pop is the sound that they’ve grown into nicely, and we’d be lying if we said we didn’t love this direction. On their songs, especially on this new one, the trio seem to perfectly know when to hit hard with huge-sounding arrangements and when to simply pull back and let things just s e t t l e. [Indie] Pure X – Things In My Head

For all two-and-a-half minutes “Things In My Head”, the latest track from Austin’s Pure X, shivers like an uncertain child, careful, cautious and maybe even a tad wounded. The gentle, yet lo-fi vocals of Nate Grace coupled with lazy reverb’d guitars make for an indie track that slides on by seemingly to go unnoticed, except for the fact that you can’t help but listen in for its pure, unadulterated intimacy. Maybe over and over, too.

“Things In My Head” is off Pure X’s second album, Crawling Up The Stairs, out May 14th via Acephale.

Tegan and Sara – Closer (Yeasayer Remix)

Brooklyn experimentalists Yeasayer must like Tegan and Sara — and can we blame them? their new album is full of synth pop gold — because, here, they tackle the duo’s lead single “Closer”. After it’s run through the remix mill, let’s just say it doesn’t sound anything like the original. The sugary, lush vocals stay in tact, but the music itself is a completely twisted, reinvented mash of warped noise. It’s an interesting juxtaposition, check it out below.

[Indie Rock] Everything Everything – Duet

Not quite as experimentally riveting as their previous single, this new track “Duet” from Everything Everything has some jarring rock moments, but is mostly more mild-mannered, full of lush harmonies and charm. If all you’ve heard is “Kemosabe”, definitely tune into this and hear a different side of the band.

Multi-instrumentalist Kishi Bashi reminds us how beautiful Beirut‘s “A Sunday Smile” is with this amazing orchestral cover. So much yearning, so much feeling, so many sadly singing strings. Take a momentary breather from the beats, the guitars, the aggression and the rage.
