[NEW] Tegan and Sara – I Was A Fool

Tegan and Sara easily blur the lines between indie rock and synth pop, melding the best of both worlds seamlessly. Nothing proves this more than their slew of tracks — “Closer”, “I’m Not Your Hero” — off their forthcoming album Heartthrob. The LP has all the makings of a mainstream hit; it’s light, contagious, honest, fresh and is straight-up ear candy for the masses and indie too-cool-for-school kids alike.

What’s great is that it also shows the group’s range, especially with this track “I Was A Fool”. A far more serious, wistful and downtempo cut (with delicate piano!), it gives us a glimpse of the tender, introspective side of the sisterly duo. Check it out below and be sure to pick up Heartthrob when it drops January 29th on Warner Brothers.

[Indie Rock] Cold War Kids – Miracle Mile

California’s indie rock band Cold War Kids have released a new song, “Miracle Mile,” off their forthcoming fourth album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts (out April 2nd via Downtown). Hearkening back to the hearty, jaunty, rickety piano-driven days of their debut, the new track is rich, sonorous and anthemic from end to end. The energy, which seems to be at an all-time high, is absolutely refreshing, and gives the song some real kickin’ lifeblood that’s likely to keep this on repeat all day.

[Electronica] Shlohmo – Later

On March 5th, Los Angeles producer Henry Laufer, aka Shlohmo, will release a new EP entitled Laid Out via Friends of Friends/Wedidit. The follow-up to last year’s beat-heavy Vacation EP, it features this warped, colorful, and curvaceous R&B-soaked journey of a track called “Later”. It’s six minutes long, but it takes you through so many ups, downs and twists, you wouldn’t even notice it. Listen in below.

[Soul] Jessie Ware – What You Won’t Do For Love (Cover) (Prod. by Sampha)

London-based songstress Jessie Ware uses her smooth, sultry electro-soul sound to breathe new life into “What You Won’t Do For Love”. A classic R&B track originally released in the late ’70s by Bobby Caldwell, it’s been covered and sampled many times over within the hip-hop world by folks like Mary J. Blige, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Mariah Carey. Ware’s cover, like much of the music found on her excellent debut album Devotion, is emotional and nostalgic, yet still maintains a very modern and stylish feel. Listen below.

This came out some time ago online, but this week the cover is part of the Future Classic x Laneway Festival series. Future Classic will be hosting their own stage at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival, and to celebrate, each week they’re releasing a track from one of their performers.

“What You Won’t Do For Love” is also included on Ware’s new If You’re Never Gonna Move EP, out now.

[Electronica] Bastille – Pompeii (Monsieur Adi Remix)

French producer Monsieur Adi — who did that awesome LDR “Born To Die” remix back in November — has delivered yet another awesomely fresh rework, working his magic on Bastille’s “Pompeii”. Catchy, exuberant, and slick from start to finish, it does exactly what a remix should do in terms of spicing up the original with new flavors. But Adi goes one step further here: he makes me want to listen to this just as much as Bastille’s version.

Also, if you’re late to the Bastille party (like I am), he’s a London artist definitely worth watching this year. His new album, Bad Blood, drops March 4th. Visit his Soundcloud page.

[Electronica] Bago – I Forget You (Wet Paint Remix)

Rising Canadian producer Wet Paint — who we’ve covered before — gets both playful and sexy on this remix of Bago‘s “I Forget You”. It’s still got the original’s soulful, sassy R&B swagger, but comes with an added dose of electronic flair that not only gives it some glowing & warped after-effects towards the end, but also emphasizes its ovearall slow-jam sensuality and warmth. Check it out below.
