[Alternative Pop] Jack River – Palo Alto

Jack River
Palo Alto

One of the best facets of music is the ability to capture a specific moment in time or a definitive emotion, but the newest from Jack River details quite a bit more than that. She states:

It was always destined to be sun-drenched and gritty and gilded in synths and electric guitars – I wanted to find the line between the 90’s, early 2000’s and now, and blend all my dreams of a highway song into one.

For you Courtney Barnett fans out there, look no further, because this song is right up your alley. With an unapologetic and boisterous spirit, “Palo Alto” continues to pave the way for Jack River’s upcoming debut EP, Highway Songs No.2, in a stylish and independent manner. It steers away from the much more electronically influenced “Talk Like That“, but it’s the sort of shift that demonstrates a fearless attempt at displaying a compelling range. Her message behind this tune, per her SoundCloud description, touches on a common sentiment:

It’s about letting go but not giving up, melancholic-but-sure endings, and people realizing magic when it’s too late – even though you knew it all along.

Subtle yet substantial, that’s an experience all too familiar for some of us. Highway Songs No.2 will be out on October 7th, so don’t miss it!

[Electronic] Ninth Parallel – Infinitum

Ninth Parallel
Infinitum

Just when you may have thought he was gone for good, Ninth Parallel returns. Designating ther right amount of time to create and diligently following the most natural process possible is instrumental during an absence, and that’s exactly what is portrayed with “Infinitum”. Throughout the entire seven minute creation, you’re guided into a nostalgic journey of hard-hitting electro, ethereal and bright melodies, and an emotional appeal that hearkens back to the heavier material from Porter Robinson‘s early work. Ninth Parallel supplements the tune with a heartfelt note, stating:

I went through a lot of dark depression, anxiety, and turmoil while writing this song. It fundamentally changed me as a person and as an artist. My experience with it over the past two years changed my perspective on how to treat the process of writing music, how to trust myself better, and how to feel fulfilled doing what I love to do.

Even with what some would call an “older” sound, “Infinitum” doesn’t flinch its ability to make you reflect on a different time in electronic music and even a different time in life entirely. Sometimes the most unlikely things from the past make you optimistic about the future. “Infinitum” is also available on Spotify.

Deep Dark Blue is aptly named. “Atoms” proves this without a shred of doubt. [Electronic] Ghost Loft – Seconds (Nick AM Remix)

Ghost Loft
Seconds (Nick AM Remix)

You may remember Nick AM from his previous original single we covered, Veronica, but if not, he’s got another solid remix out for us to enjoy. Shifting away from his usual deep house and techno techniques, Nick AM flips Ghost Loft into a spacey and chopped up club-influenced affair that thrives on using the spaces between the notes as much (if not more) than the notes themselves. There’s more going on here than a simple remix, and that’s certainly evident from the description of the tune on SoundCloud, which reads:

I heard Ghost Loft’s original out one night, and the lyrics and noir vibe painted a picture of a certain time in my life. I feel like music is the most powerful when it relates to us and “Seconds” reminded me that you can always find your way out of a dark place.

We felt that sentiment instantly. Grab yourself a free download and soak this one up when your feeling a little pensive.
