Apparat – A Violent Sky

Apparat returns with “A Violent Sky”, the first track to be lifted from his forthcoming concept album, Krieg und Frieden (Music For Theatre) which has been written as a score for Sebastian Hartmann’s stage production of Tolstoy’s War and Peace.

“A Violent Sky” is our first taste of the electronica maestro’s follow up to his stunning 2011 album, The Devil’s Walk, and sees Apparat juxtaposing haunting synth drones and mournful vocals with a hypnotic piano loop and jazzy drums. The Krieg und Frieden album is out on Mute next month but you can grab a free download of “A Violent Sky” below …

[New] Chromatics – Cherry

After giving us a taster of the upcoming Italians Do It Better compilation with “Looking For Love”, Chromatics return with the next single to be featured on the triple LP. “Cherry” sees the Portland-based outfit wrapping an infectious guitar hook around hazy layers of synth and seductive vocals to produce a slick slice of synth-pop perfection.

[Indie] Widowspeak – Ballad Of The Golden Hour

Brooklyn based folk-rock trio Widowspeak return with news of the band’s forthcoming sophomore album, “Almanac”, which is set for an early 2013 release. “Ballad Of The Golden Hour” is the first single to be lifted from the new long player and marks a step forward for Widowspeak. Recorded in a hundred year old barn in the Hudson River Valley, “Ballad Of The Golden Hour” builds from a dreamy, strummed introduction into a dynamic crescendo of sprawling guitars. Kyson – Ocean Tides

Having already sprinkled his glitchy, ambient magic over Bon Iver’s “Holocene”, Berlin based producer Kyson backs up the acclaimed remix with his own Blackstone EP, which hits record stores on October 29th via Moodgadget Records. The latest track to emerge from the EP, “Ocean Tides” sees Kyson’s melancholic vocals wash over a reflective soundscape that ebbs and flows with delicate piano lines and warm electronic textures.

[Electro] Chromatics – Looking For Love

The full version of “Looking For Love” clocks in at a whopping 17 minutes, but Chromatics have just unveiled a sleek 5 minute video edit that’ll help keep us tide over until the album version drops on the forthcoming Italians Do It Better compilation, After Dark 2. There isn’t a firm release date yet but when we know, you’ll know. For now, turn the lights down low and enjoy the sultry sounds of this hypnotic edit.
