Jaguar Skills: Toolroom Knights

You may not have heard of Jaguar Skills, but over in the UK he’s becoming one of the hotest DJ’s on the scene, dropping some of the most creative jaw dropping sets you’ll hear in any club and recently performing headline sets at various festivals. so it’s probably about time we introduced you to him.

Fortunately he has a few things in common with The Music Ninja, one… he’s a certified Ninja (win)… 2…he loves wearing ninja clothing out in public… 3… he loves all music genres and is willing to drop anything in a set to keep the party going! Jag’s live mixes blast out dubstep, drum ‘n’ bass, minimal, house, jazz… pretty much everything – yet each twist of the tables always incorporates his trademark Jaguar Skills samples and sounds.

He’s got a new LP out ‘Toolroom Knights’ which manages to slam all these genres into one pumped up party mix that leaves no ‘big tune’ stone unturned. Featuring artists like Bart B, TC, Wolfgang Gartner, Nero, Digitalism and plenty more – be sure to check out the album stream here.

Here’s the oppening track along with a mashup youtube vid to give you an idea of what the album sounds like

[Chilled] Frenic – New World

Blending an influence of latino with a retro hip-hop beat, UK producer Frenic has created on smooth track that has glided it’s way onto my chilled playlist. Maybe I was woo’d by the charming windpipes or the the fact it the whole track was nice and short, but I was left wanting a lot more!
Recently Frenic has been releasing around 2-3 original tracks a week and also has a pretty sweet EP out called ‘Soulbass‘ so do check out his links below to keep an eye on the freshest tunes.

[Creepy Video] Skrillex – First Of The Year (Equinox)

With all his ‘Mothership’ touring – maybe Skrillex‘s head has gone a bit mental! This video is nothing short of haunting, depicting the sinister side of a little girl, determined to destroy any one who comes into her weird lair… creepy ay? Yet slightly awesome!
Good news recently too for the LA based producer and dubstep fans, his latest single Ruffneck (Full flex) has made it onto the BBC Radio1 ‘A-Playlist’ which is no mean feat really shows how dubstep is progressing into the mainstream.

BONUS – Here’s a few huge Skrillex monsters that should keep you going!

[Dubstep] Portugal. The Man – Sleep Forever (Bassex Remix)

After suffering a robbery of a lot of their gear, maybe this remix will put a smile back onto Portugal, The Man’s faces. The 4 peice band have some amazing songs on their latest EP ‘In The Mountain’ and this track ‘Sleep Forever’ has been given the downtempo, yet relentless dubstep treatment from Bassex. The sheer contrast from the late 60’s rock sound of Portugal, The Man to the bass drenched drones of Bassex leaves a void in the middle of the sound which for me forms the magic of this remix. With both Bassex and Portugal, the man both hailing from the US – let’s hope this is the first of many collaborations.

[Dirty Dubstep] Calvin Harris – Flashback (Millions Like Us Remix)

This is one heck of a filthy remix from the Brighton trio Millions Like Us. Packed full of punchy bass, and some very Nero sounding synths – Chris, Tom & Ian have done a brilliant job on taking ‘Flashback’ onto the dubstep floors. On the same management label as Calvin Harris (Three Six Zero Group), Millions Like Us were formed from the death of a previous Brighton based band and have taken the natural step of taking the energy from live performances and crunching it into some heavy, deathly beats. With such a good back catalogue – we’ll be keeping a close eye on all future releases from these floor destroyers!

As a cheeky bonus, here’s a remix they did in late 2010 for fellow brits Hurts – it’s just as huge – enjoy!

[Electro] Deadmau5 – Professional Griefers (Preview)

The Electro Dance Music Titan that is Deadmau5 is at it again, this time teasing us with this new track ‘Profesional Griefers‘ which he first dropped live at the Chicago festival and more recently in an Essential Mix at Space in Ibiza for BBC Radio 1. Featuring a classic Mau5 groove, for a lot of fans it will come as a relief to hear those familiar sounds, yet Joel Zimmerman has wrapped it into a much chunkier hard hitting beat. According to his latest updates – this week Deadmau5 will be making beats all week in his mobile studio, which if the tracks are anything like ‘Profesional Griefers’, it’s something to be excited about.

[Moombillex?] Knife Party – Zoology (feat. Skrillex)

I have no idea what to think of this latest teaser clip. As a massive moombahton fan, hearing Skrillex‘s bass wrenching dubstep styled synths ontop of a bouncing moombahton beat is so exciting, possibly new genre defining? Knife Party are the new club project of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen of the Australian group Pendulum and for me pose to be one of the most exciting duo’s on the planet right now. There’s no way this would have come under Pendulums “Key-tar” formulaic based sound, so seeing Skrillex give his ‘thumbs up’ to these boys shows that they mean business.

Hit up Knife Party’s official site for a free download of their first ever Ibiza set that features a lot of their unreleased new stuff… it’s pretty awesome.

Bonus: I’m not sure how we missed this monster from Knife Party but quickly add it into your “monster tracks” playlist. Swedish House Mafia just dropped this in their T In The Park set in Scotland and Zane Lowe made it his hottest track in the world in May:
