[Electro] Nero – Must Be The Feeling (SebastiAn Remix)

Nero‘s smash hit “Must Be The Feeling” has been taking over dance floors and the blogosphere since he released it earlier this year. There have also been a string of amazing remixes coming down the pipeline, with more materializing every day. This time we bring you a purist electro remix from Parisian SebastiAn of Ed Banger fame. With his drawn out, slowed down builds and gritty electro synth swells SebastiAn certainly knows how to strip down all the unnecessary sounds and come correct with the most basic elements. Like fine French wine, SebastiAn prefers to keep his ingredients classic and pure.

[Live Electronic] Sunsquabi – Catastrophic EP

Boulder, Colorado is world renowned for its beautiful scenery and its rich music and arts culture. With the most sunny days of anywhere in the country and the gorgeous backdrop of the Rocky Mountains there is something magical about Boulder that inspires great creativity. Enter Sunsquabi, one of Boulder’s most exciting up and coming acts. These guys are doing something truly original with their music. They create what they call “electronic hydro-funk” a rich blend of live instrumentation and produced elements reminiscent of influences ranging from STS9 to Daft Punk. While everyone in the band contributes to the production of the back tracks, Kevin Donohue displays his veteran chops on lead guitar, Andrew Clymer lays down the funky bass and synth bass lines and Chris Anderson ups the energy level with his live drum performance.

In just over a year the Sunsquabi crew has performed at Red Rocks Amphitheater and countless other venues throughout the Denver / Boulder area and self-released a string of originals and remixes laden with their signature jamtronic sound. Their latest release “Catastrophic” follows suit with remixes of Ratatat, Paper Diamond and K’naan and several inspiring original tracks with rich vocal samples from singer / songwriter Emma Fields and saxophone elements from Dynohunter‘s Clark Smith. You can pick up the album on their Bandcamp Page and be sure to catch their performance at Wakarusa Festival this summer. Boulder, CO is bringing back the funk, and we love it!

[Glitch Hop] KOAN Sound – The Edge

What is the sound of one hand clapping? This age old paradox may have just been solved. UK glitch hop newcomers KOAN Sound are coming correct with a fresh new production style that causes neck breaking head bobs and body thrashing. With a wicked swing to their step and negative space synth wobbles these guys make the kind of funk that wipes your mind clean, leaving you in a state of musical zen. Perhaps that’s why they call themselves KOAN Sound.

A Koan is a puzzling, often paradoxical statement or story, used in Zen Buddhism as an aid to meditation and a means of gaining spiritual awakening. Rather than meditate, these UK boys want you to thrash yourself to enlightenment. Be sure to support yet another amazing release on the OWSLA label by picking up their sophomore EP “Funk Blaster” here and catch them on their US tour with fellow young buck Gemini when they rage through a town near you this spring.

[Fresh] Kill The Noise & Datsik – Lightspeed

Skrillex’s label OWSLA is unquestionably at the cutting edge of the EDM scene. With MASSIVE releases out almost every day by the new school’s top artists, anyone searching for the next major sound has a surefire place to look. The latest release is another top notch collaboration between giants Kill The Noise and Datsik. This is another impressive example of the way that genres are truly blurred nowadays with a progressive build, 4 on the floor electro house bass lines and drums at the drop and some futuristic dubstep wobbles thrown in for good measure. Really it doesn’t matter anymore. When your mind is getting blown by these guys, genres and tempos simply melt away. This one is some quality shit and we encourage you to support OWSLA on Beatport here to keep the bangers flowing for a long time in the future. Even the album artwork on this track is amazing with these two icons battling head to skull. That’s sick.
