[New] Bearcubs – Home

Brighton artist Bearcubs have been making hedway through his work with Cadence Collective. While taking positive energy, ideas, and working together with members of the collective (Cube Face, Kruisemode, m∞n)the group has recently put out an EP that is sort of a sampler of everyone involved in the project. One of Bearcubs’ additions is a shining track titled “Home” that is kind of a dreamscape, pulsing and moving in waves that whet our appetite and get us stoked on the debut album rumored for release within the next month or so. [New] Now, Now – School Friends

Minneapolis band Now, Now have recently put out their sophomore LP on Trans-Records, which an impressive feat because that label is owned by Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie, and kind of hints that there are even bigger things on the horizon for this young band. Their recent release holds quite a few gems. Among them an old track, titled “School Friends”, has laid in wait for discovery and even though the drummer Brad Hale never thought the song would resurface- it is now blowing up all over the net. (Not literally, of course.) I think its relatable because its about being unhappy with your school, particularly college, experience and how it it never is quite what you make it out to be in your head.

[Indie] Carousel – Where Have You Gone

It’s kind of funny to me that the indie pop band named Carousel has just released a track whose title asks the question “Where have you gone?”  because on a carousel you just go around and around and around and around and… You don’t really have to ask where someone has gone because before you finish asking, they’re back again! That analogy kind of applies to the band themselves too.

I first heard of Carousel with ” Get Up”, in 2011, and they’ve been listed as up and coming ever since. Their guitars are poppy, thoughtful, and complimented wholeheartedly by synth melodies and soft spoken vocal lines that sit atop drums jumpy enough to keep your body moving. Stream below:

[Indie] La Sera- Love That’s Gone

Katy Goodman, known musically as La Sera, has recently put out a new track called “Love That’s Gone”. The song is a slow movement with steady drumming and clean, melodic, guitars that are the crowning jewel of the track in my eyes. (erm… ears) The vocals are slight and subtle but embody the surfy, 50’s prom, kind of feel that the upward strums of the guitar create- with enough ooh’s and angst to drive the track and earn the title. [New] Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeroes- That’s What’s Up

Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroes, the indie-folk sensation that brought us “Home”, are back with a new single today titled “That’s What’s Up”- a track that from start to finish soundtracks the summer season before it has even begun.

In a way, “That’s What’s Up” shows the band maturing from their days of singing lines like “cotton candy, pumpkin pie, you’re the apple of my eye”, a fact they’ve made known with their first single of 2012 “Man On Fire”, while keeping the cutesy, old soul, feel in tact. Letting the low fidelity of “That’s What’s Up” nod to generations past and give a modern take to a vintage soundscape, the band drops a subtle hint that their forthcoming record, titled Here, will be full of sweet and bouncy tunes that are both behind the times and ahead of the curve.

’Thats Whats Up’

Here is set for release on May 29th.

[Remix] Erykah Badu- Love Of My Life (Shelltoes edit)

Shelltoes began collecting notoriety in the blogosphere with I Was Told There Would Be Refreshments, an album full of sundry, lightly changing, beat systems and female vocal samples. Not straying too far from this established sound is his remix of “Love Of My Life” by Erykah Badu. Shelltoes edit of this song in particular, which appears on an album full of remixes titled The Expired Dairy Gamble, shows the producer taking a risk with song choice and fully coming out on top. His additions add new dimensions to Erykah’s already-hit song and do it justice. Stream below:

[Indie] Manicanparty- Rebels In The Light + Free Download!

New York’s Jess Corazza and Pat Morrissey have combined their wits into an up and coming indie-pop project called Manicanparty. Recently the two have released an electric, eccentric, track titled “Rebels In The Light” that has been getting a lot of exposure (soaring to 44,000 plays in only four days) for very good reason. The track itself feels like a world of its own; the drums are active and atypical, transitioning into jungle grooves that prompt an exploration of sound during the bridge parts, with the other tracks building up this world of sound. With these other layers building up the foundation, the vocals really soar… and you’ll be humming the melody for the rest of the day. Stream below to see what all the hype is about:
