Kris Menace is kind of a big deal in the electric world, having collaborated with Röyksopp, Bag Raiders, Felix da Housecat, and Moby just to name a few. Now, he has tried his hand with a song from the internet’s favorite artist to remix right now- lana Del Ray. The song “Blue Jeans” stays prevalent in Menace’s edit, the vocal parts in tact. His additions give the track a swirling, cosmic, feel that gently pushes the original song in the direction it probably should have one in the first place.
“Blue Jeans” was originally released with “Video Games” and will be put out officially on April 8th boasting some other remixed tracks.
R&B superstar Bobby Womack has been working with the guys over at XL Studios on his latest effort, The Bravest Man In The Universe. The latest release in promotion for that album is a very stripped down and intimate track called “Please Forgive My Heart”- which is driven by steady drumming and a piano part that does a great job to compliment the soul in Bobby’s voice. The album is rumored to hold a feature with Lana Del Ray and a few other treats so be on the look out.
The Bravest Man In The Universe drops 6/12/12 in the US.
Florence And The Machine‘s “Shake It Out” has already gotten a lot of attention for being, essentially, made of solid gold. The track, pulled from the band’s second effort titled Ceremonials, is now being revisited by way of an acoustic version released on that album. Though it’s taken a little while to be discovered, this intimate delivery gives a new perspective to the track and changes the feel completely. Definitely a great find. Stream below:
“Did I never show you this? Me singing with Deportees!<3” tweets Swedish singer Lykke Li yesterday, linking to a new track titled “A New Name To Go By”. This collaboration, featured on the latest Deportees album Islands & Shores, sounds like the result of three Swedes meeting up for a game of beach volley ball. And, though that would be an unfair 2 on 1 match up, Lykke Li has a steel drum on her side to rebound pop ups and make beautiful beach melodies- which compliment her vocal parts nicely. Stream below:
Beach House released the first single from their forthcoming LP Bloom on their official website Tuesday night (March 6). The track, ironically titled “Myth”, seems to validate certain myths currently circulating around the web in regard to the new albums unconfirmed release date (May 15) and track listing- breathing life back into the band and their fans by way of a simple “hello again” tweet.
As for the track itself, it feels like the Baltimore duo has come full circle and really embraced their chemistry together. While it is reminiscent of Teen Dream ( which is something that I love) “Myth” feels almost like the more mature, back from college, version of songs like “Zebra” that spotlights the talents of both members of this dream-pop dream team. From the swirling guitars to the hazy, orchestral, tones and finally to the vocals intimacy- “Myth” shows the band coming back with new strength and swinging for the proverbial fences.
Its hard to believe that its already been two years since Free Energy‘s Stuck on Nothing was released. Now, with the pending release of their new effort, which they’re calling Love Sign, it will be interesting to see what the Philedelphia band has been up to.
If the first single “Electric Fever” is any representation of the rest of the album, Love Sign will basically continue the feel we’ve known and loved from Free Energy all along. The song channels the flashback rocker in all of us, the part of us that makes us want to sing along to hits from the 70’s and 80’s, even if its just in private. Expect to be shaking your first, tapping your toes, and singing along.
Free Energy- Electric Fever
Free Energy is headlining a SXSW set at The Jr. on 3/14 at 1 AM.

Though this track, “Skirting On The Surface” was originally debuted by Atoms For Peace around three years ago- it will happily join the ranks among the other premiered tracks (titled “Identikit” and “Cut A Hole”)on the bands new LP.
