[Remix] Chase & Status – Gangsta Boogie (Feat. Raekwon & Knytro)

Chase and Status
Gangsta Boogie feat. Raekwon & Knytro

London based duo Chase & Status made waves in the music scene with the release of their chart-topping effort Brand New Status. Returning to the source material that made them so widely known, the duo drop a brand new re-working of the track “Gangsta Boogie.” The new revision stays true to their unique aesthetic of blending spoken word from a prolific emcee with an infectious backdrop. Taking to the beat are Wu-Tang veteran Raekwon and newcomer Knytro for some dope verses. Raekwon is definitely the stand-out performer on this single, as his words weave smoothly through the production. Although the track isn’t full of the usual heavy mix of high-energy, electro, and reverberating effects, the simplicity of the gritty beat gives it that old school feel and makes for a complimentary mix.

Take a listen to the flipped track above, and be sure to catch the duo as they hit several venues for their North American tour this summer.

My Nigga Just Made Bail (ft J. Cole)

Taking a step back from the spotlight after a dope sophomore release, J. Cole introduces a chill new track from his latest protégé and Dreamville labelmate Bas, titled “My Nigga Just Made Bail.” The tune finds the Queen’s emcee spitting a narrative about misfortune, complacency, and label chasing over the guitar-riffed production. Although Bas is the star, Cole still finds a way to steal the show, dropping some truthful words on a solo verse, while also lending some vocal talents on the hook, which borrows from En Vogue‘s “Free Your Mind” featuring George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic. Take a listen to the cool summer single up top, which can be found on Bas’ Last Winter LP, a Dreamville Records first release.

MT. Olympus (Prod. By Big K.R.I.T.)

Southern producer and rapper Big K.R.I.T. never fails to surprise fans with a new track every now and then. After accruing 500,000 followers on Twitter, he took to the interwebs to drop another gem for our listening enjoyment. The track “Mt. Olympus” is a new kind of K.R.I.T., with the the Mississippi native dropping a fiery, aggressive flow about the fickle industry. Taking shots at the game that has, somewhat, shunned him from reaching mainstream notoriety, K.R.I.T. also takes a moment to spit a reply to Kendrick‘s “Control” verse. The self-produced single is a pretty dope first listen of what is to come from his upcoming sophomore project Cadillactica, dropping soon.

After plenty of rumors and speculation, NYC crew A$AP Mob finally drop some new heat from their latest collaborative project. Putting the anticipation to rest, the latest track “Xscape” serves as more of an introductory track to the relatively unknown A$AP Twelvyy. From guest features on mixtapes and a few freestyles, Twelvyy drops some aggressive solo bars over the Tay Soprano-produced beat. Spitting on his rough upbringing in Harlem, NY and his ambition to make it big, this auto-biographical track is a tough intro to what is to come from the young emcee. The young crooner opens with some smooth vocals that are later backed-up and followed by Beyoncé’s angelic harmonies over an ethereal, self-produced beat. The Curtiss King-produced joint, “Tree of Life,” finds the young emcee spitting some smooth bars over a chill beat about those good herbs. Just in time for 4/20, this new tune doesn’t exactly show off Soul’s lyrical prowess on the mic, but it still makes for a dope listen.

Rage The Night Away feat Waka Flocka Flame

Waka Flocka Flame isn’t one to shy away from doing something out of the box and unordinary musically, so his recent feature on the Steve Aoki single “Rage the Night Away” comes as less of a surprise and more of a welcomed collaboration. Bringing his turnt up personality and live presence to the track, Waka’s high-energy meshes well with Aoki’s pulsating, trap production. This is an infectious listen from start to finish that only gets better with each listen. If you can’t get hyped listening to this party track then you’re probably either missing a pulse or deaf. This cut will be featured on Aoki’s upcoming project Neon Future, dropping later this year.
