[Chill-House] Ellie Goulding – High For This (Kygo Remix)

Ellie Goulding
High For This (Kygo Remix)

22 year old Norwegian electronic producer Kygo, who is riding a warranted buzzsaw of press attention after a remix for Passenger’s “Let Her Go” charted at #1 on the Hype Machine charts for multiple days, just dropped us his newest remix effort for Ellie Goulding’s cover of The Weeknd’s “High For This” and it’s another grand slam outta’ Fenway. Kygo drapes Ellie’s unmistakable vocals in a hollow and lush four-to-the-floor kick which you could tell was his production only one bar into the tune, while only subtly tweaking the original synth line into a workable dance sound for a builder of a first half. But, the real magic occurs about halfway through as the very adroit composer lays down a completely original chord progression, immediately swallowing your consciousness which paces the rest of the track and sets it miles apart from the original recording. Once again, Kygo has offered this one up for free on his Facebook page in exchange for a “Like”, so go ahead and snag yourself a copy.

Furthest Thing (Drake) Cover

There has been an absolute onslaught of covers from Drake’s new album. Out of the ashes of his love lit lyrics we keep hearing countless interpretations of his tunes. His apparently shattered heart served up ample opportunities for everyone else to take their turn playing with his lyrics. And, as expected, we have a great banjo driven cover for you to enjoy today.

New York youngster Raveena Aurora teamed up with The Sifters to serve up a delightful cover of “Furthest Thing.” Between the twangy plucks of the banjo and Raveena’s silky vocals, we simply can’t get enough.

Gentlemen HALL
Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe (Kendrick Cover)

We’ve been hearing a lot of amazing covers lately. From Drake to Daft Punk, the internet era of music has created an amazing platform to pay tribute to artist’s work. This time around, we’re excited to serve up a vocally driven version of Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.”

The slow rolling, laid back stoner jam from the Compton based hip hop giant is turned upside down from these East Coast indie rockers. With a tribal feel, Gentlemen Hall gave this tune a new identity, while still maintaining the chill vibe of the original. As expected, this tune is a free download on the groups Soundcloud page. Pick it up, light the nag champa and lie back to this one.

Tennis Court (The Kite String Tangle Cover)

With a level of talent like 17 year old sensation Lorde, it’s only natural to expect an onslaught of remixes and covers to follow. Her razor sharp lyrics are infectious and meticulously crafted, which offers up an opportunity for others artists to pay tribute to her with their own take on her work.

While “Tennis Courts” initially was a hip hop inspired electro-pop tune, The Kite String Tangle saw it in a much different light. The experimental solo project of alternative electronic artist and producer, Danny Harley, crafted a melodically rich downtempo interpretation. Letting his heaven like vocals be the star in this cover, it’s an absolutely stunning take that we just can’t stop listening to.

With her classic, soulfully sung words charging in harmony with Nicolas Balachandran’s guitar work, this take on Drake’s “Hold On We’re Going Home” has a boisterous personality of it’s own.

The band continues to develop a sound rich with a classic Americana vibe that’s immediately relatable and infectious. Make sure to keep an eye on them.

[Pop Rock] Lorde – Royal (American Authors Cover)

American Authors
Royals Cover

Brooklyn based pop rock band American Authors recently put their spin on the mega hit from Lorde, “Royals”. Gone is the large haunting bass drum, and in it’s place is hand clapping, simplistic guitar, and banjo picking. Yeah, these boys took on a giant of a song and they nailed it. The playful harmonies and laid back approach give the tune a whole new feel, while still giving you plenty to attach yourself to the original.

Make sure to look out for American Author’s debut EP, which is due out August 27th.
