[TMN PREMIERE] J Cole – Power Trip (X Ambassadors Cover)

We always love hearing a good cover song, especially when it crosses genres. We love it even more when we get to premiere it, which is just the case today. Brooklyn four piece X Ambassadors (who are working with KIDinaKORNER/Interscope Records) made a splash sometime back with their monster single “Unconsolable.” We were instantly hooked with their drum centric sound amplified by their lead singers power charged vocals. This very combination, as attractive as it is, seems to have found it’s way to covering J Cole’s monster summer jam, “Power Trip,” and we just couldn’t be any more pleased.

X Ambassadors’ take is a rhythmically inspired harmony focused one, using the beat and heavy bass to accentuate the lyrics which were already rich with emotion. While it very much conveys their own personal sound and style, it still gives a tip of the hat to the original.

In Bassnectar’s most recent mix, he dropped a mesmerizing Piano cover of his remix for Pixies track “Where Is My Mind”. To say the least, it is nothing short of amazing, and allows you to fall in love all over again. The original bass heavy remix that Lorin threw down was epic on it’s own, but once you mix in some piano for the intro, you better believe it’s amazing. Odds are this track will never get released so here is a rip from his most recent mix titled, “Immersive Music Mixtape – Side One”. Cheers.

[House] AC Slater & Anna Lunoe – “All Night” (Cover of Power Trip by J. Cole)

One of the hottest songs over the radio this summer has just gotten a tune up at the music store. J. Cole’s “Power Trip” is a sexy and seductive songs that has been playing for a few months now. But today, producer AC Slater and the very talented vocalist Anna Lunoe, teamed up to do their own version of the song, calling it “All Night”. This tantalizing cover captures the sex appeal that is in the original song while adding an electronic feel into the mix. Slater does a great job with the up and dancing beats while Lunoe’s sweet yet seductive voice carefully plays out the lyrics, not to mention they both co-produced this piece. This song comes along with the announcement of Lunoe’s North American tour this fall supporting none other than The Weeknd. One this is for sure, whatever song this Australian beauty lends her voice to will leave any listener wanting more.

Sometimes we find tracks that we absolutely love, and sometimes those tracks slip between the cracks. After being in this industry for a few years, we’ve come to realize that it’s just one of those things that happens. With that being said, we’re excited to finally be bringing you Blue Stahli’s cover of David Lynch’s “Ghost of Love”.

This free remix, which is a part of “B-Sides and Other Things I Forgot”, features the same strained vocal treatments that we loved about the original. It’s waivering, simplistic, and haunting, and Blue Stahli managed to encapsulate that with a modern twist. This is a far departure from this Detroit based producer, who is more well known for his cinematic, rock infused dance music style.

We’ve had a real thing for the classics over the past few weeks. Sure, there’s been absurd amounts of amazing tunes coming out, but we like to take a little time to appreciate the artists that help influence the sounds that we’ve come to love. One of our favorite playlists we’ve been listening to on Spotify is comprised of R&B from the 50’s and 60’s. The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and the O’Jays have been getting some major playtime, and with good reason.

While we love the classics, we know that artists do too, which is why we can always appreciate when an artist does their rendition of a classic tune. Today we’re excited to bring you Midi Matilda’s cover of the Temptations “Just My Imagination.” This San Fran based electro pop duo has really put a fun twist on this soulful classic.
