Fleetwood Mac – Dreams (Psychemagik Remix)

Who doesn’t love Fleetwood Mac‘s classic “Dreams”? Or Stevie Nicks‘ insightful, tell-it-like-it-is lyrics: “Players only love you when they’re playing”? Mysterious UK duo Psychemagik tackle the 1977 hit — yes, it was that long ago — updating the cautious rock ballad by turning it into a full-fledged hypnotic and sensual dance track. Amazingly, Nicks’ vocals sound perfect amidst the warping electronic swirls and whirls. Though not much is known about Psychemagik, their steady supply of remixes and edits have earned them recognition from BBC 1 Radio and a number of artists.

You can download “Dreams” (Psychemagik Remix) off the duo’s Facebook. And for more music, check out their ever-busy Soundcloud page.

[Talent] Evan Duffy: Pianist Takes On Electronic Anthems

Ninjas, today we will be presenting to you the undeniably talented composer and pianist Evan Duffy. Sir Duffy takes it upon himself to make masterful piano versions of originals and remixes of all types of electronic music. Never underestimate how difficult it is to transpose the notes from the cacophony of synths in electronic music to just one guy with two hands and a piano. Yet time and time again, he shows off his composing and playing abilities. It does not take long to realize when going through his catalog of videos that a gold mine has been found.

Right here you will witness the tackling of Nero‘s “Must Be the Feeling” (Kill The Noise Remix) with a monstrous performance. Somehow managing to transition all the texture and details involved in the KTN remix to his hands makes this just a stunning 4 minutes.

When not making piano covers of electronic anthems, the James Madison University student makes his own arrangements. Below is one of his epic originals.

For other piano reworks, including a Noisia remix and Dillion Francis cover, check out his youtube channel here. Evan has said if he were to reach 30,000 subscribers on YouTube he will release his piano cover of “Strobe,” so how but we ninja’s give him a little help with that.

Feed Me – This Is The Thing (Fink Cover)

Played and sung by me as best I could without ‘help’. Written by the great @finkmusic. The guitar is an old family one from the attic I restored, it’s buzzy but I like it.

Feed Me, one of the most aggressive dubstep/d&b/electro producers of our times has just released the most unusual of tracks, a soft and acoustic guitar tune that includes his very own vocals. It may not be the next banger, but it is a definite welcome to the music mind of the London producer. Delivering a standout cover of Fink‘s “This Is The Thing”, Feed Me once again not only shows the world his diversity, but his willingness to promote all types of music.

[Indie] Kyla La Grange – Love You Better (Maccabees Cover)

British rising star Kyla La Grange dropped her record Ashes recently, and this cover of the Maccabees’ “Love You Better” (available on the deluxe version) shows exactly why the Watford native has been on the receiving end of so much hype. Her fluttering, ethereal vocals come to the fore on this stripped-down cover, with gentle instrumentals providing a lush yet simple backing for La Grange. Definitely one for fans of Ellie Goulding and Florence + The Machine, Ashes is out now.

[Video] Lana Del Rey – Heart-Shaped Box (Nirvana Cover)

In an inevitable turn of events, the global sensation Lana Del Rey has cemented her reputation as indie’s goddess by covering Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ at a live show in Sydney. While the video may not be the best quality, it’s easy to see that Lana has taken the track and put her own style on it – her powerful and emotional vocals are complemented by sweeping strings. Del Rey has spoken of her love of ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ before, and this cover has more than done the song justice. Fingers crossed for a studio version soon.

[Cover] RAC – Something About Us (ft. Liz Anjos)

RAC, a producer and remixer based in Portland, Ore., works some magic here with a cover/remix of one of the most famous Daft Punk songs. RAC takes a different approach and gives the original track a dark and dreamy feeling. The female vocals are almost hypnotizing and are a change of pace from the male vocals of the original.

School of Seven Bells – How To Love (Lil Wayne Cover)

The best covers are usually the ones that no one expects. Surely, pequeño Wayne has brought inspiration to many but I would have never pictured the beloved American indie duo School of Seven Bells, responsible for an eclectic array of soft pop tunes, to cover such a song. Yet after first listen, it comes at no surprise. Lil Wayne’s “How to Love”, released as the third single from his ninth studio album, Tha Carter IV is turned completely upside its head surrounded by a richer instrumentation of elongated notes with Alejandra Deheza beautiful voice piercing through. “How To Love” was a 2011 classic and School of Seven Bells delicately updated it for modern consumption. Enjoy!
