[Chill] Above & Beyond – Sun & Moon (Deuxième Revisit)

Above & Beyond
Sun & Moon (Deuxième Revisit)

We use the term “chill” on TMN to describe everything from dubstep to Norah Jones covers. What we have for you today can be found elsewhere throughout the blogosphere as well as next to the definition of “chill” in your 2015 Merriam-Webster dictionary. I challenge you to have pants on by the time this tune ends, by your doing or someone else’s. “Sun & Moon” has been remixed and covered and mashed up to death in the electronic music world but nobody ever mentioned anything about jazz. Enter Deuxième aka the two most creative cats to come out of Connecticut in a minute aka the offspring of Duke Silver and Kenny G. Their spin on this is romantic, if not ethereal, and we are at a loss of words to truly put in words the type of way this has us feeling. Enjoy Ninjas and Ninjettes.

If you haven’t heard of Bearson, you’re about to get your chance. Since the release of “Pink Medicine”, the Norwegian producer had been on a roll with his new tracks. Remixing Ghost Loft‘s “Talk To Me” and giving it a Porter Robinson-esque vibe, Bearson can melt everyone’s heart with this soothing little tune. Daft Punk – Instant Crush (CAFUNÉ Edition) [TMN Premiere]

CAFUNÉ
Instant Crush (CAFUNÉ Edition)

Random Access Memories was an album met with mixed feelings by many. With that being said, it’s had countless remixes since being released, as is routine with anything Daft Punk. With just under two years after it came to us, RAM received a new rendition of one of its standout tracks, “Instant Crush,” courtesy of the indie electronic duo CAFUNÉ.

These two have built a strong identity right out of the gate with their high energy original, “Letting Go,” and a resounding version of Porter Robinson‘s “Sad Machine.” Their first tune of 2015 comes in hot, and continues to push the envelope of exactly what they are capable of. They had this to say about their newest:

“We love doing these “editions” because it’s a chance for us to exercise our creative muscles while working on original music. Both of us grew up with The Strokes and Daft Punk and they’re two of our greatest inspirations as a duo. “Instant Crush” is also one of our favorite tracks off of Random Access Memories, so it only made sense for us to do it as a Valentine’s Day treat.”

No pun intended, but they did a lovely job. It captures the essence of the original while showcasing their talents as a dual threat with analog and digital production techniques. The New York duo has a debut original project in the works, but luckily we have this stellar number to hold us over until then. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day (or All-Star Weekend if that’s more up your alley) with CAFUNÉ and keep these two on your radar. Don’t miss out on the free download!

Drake
Just Hold On We're Going Home (LUCA LUSH Remix ft. Kim Vallido)

There’s no telling what LUCA LUSH is going to do next. A good Drake remix is always welcome, and he has supplied exactly that. The main single from Nothing Was The Same only gets flipped by LUCA LUSH, but covered by the breezy vocal prowess of Kim Vallido, who holds down her duties with ease.

Shedding the almost slow house feel of the original, this rendition opts for more of a spacey, hip-hop approach. The synths twinkle and growl while the drums bring some bite through the low end, resulting in a textbook LUCA LUSH flip. We’re no stranger to his remixing capabilities, and the use of a vocalist provided yet another tool that he has proven he can master. Grab the download via ToneDen below:

Tribe Society – Stoner (Young Thug Reimagined) [TMN PREMIERE]

Tribe Society
Stoner (Young Thug Reimagined)

When it comes to covers, we always hesitate before pressing play because we know we are either about to encounter something truly stunning or something truly shitty. There really is no in between. Well ninjas, considering we are premiering a cover song today, we might just have a true gem on our hands thanks to New York City’s, Tribe Society, and their reimagined version of Young Thug’s iconic track, “Stoner”.

“With the world wrapped up in trap fetish, we wanted to redress our favorite stoner anthem in a rock outfit.” – Tribe Society

Tribe Society decided to flip Young Thug’s trap anthem into a much more soulful, smooth, and indie/rock rendition that takes us directly into the core of their sound design. Filled with sensual piano riffs, pulsating 808s, beautifully arranged vocals, and ambient percussive elements, Tribe Society give us a refreshing new take on this provocative track that makes us feel as if we are listening to Chet Faker in a coffee shop on an early Thursday morning. Aside from the fact that the song is focused on marijuana and acquiring money, we can’t help but keep this one on repeat because the production and arrangement are just shy of genius. We are ecstatic about premiering this contagious cover, and we know all of you will swoon into a faded state of pure haziness the moment you press play.

[Electronica] Chet Porter – pls stay the night (Zedd cover)

chet porter
pls stay the night

You may or may not have heard of Chet Porter, but trust me, you want to take a listen to this. Stripping the Zedd hit single “Stay The Night” into bare bones, Chet Porter incorporated his electronica-based signature into the tune. A light future trap beat is used to accentuate the bold synth, creating an uplifting vibe supported by the chipmunked vocals. The feel-good approach and the complexity of the track almost resemble the sound of Tennyson, in which both of their music have the ability to have you completely tuned in with full attention. Unexpected vocal samples and loud synth will put you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole track, and you’ll be wondering why it has ended so soon.

Holla at the talented Canadian producer and grab a free download of the track here! His music deserves way more attention and we all know it!

[Cover] Mark Johns – In Paris (Prod. Sable)

Mark Johns
In Paris (Prod. Sable)

Mark Johns does what she wants. And she does it well. All of her previous efforts within the Moving Castle camp have made her a commodity in this constantly shifting and growing network of URL focused collectives. Having already worked with Manila Killa, Y//2//K, and Strehlow, she’s cemented her spot as a premiere vocalist in the future bass realm. Her newest release calls on the talents of Australian native Sable, and they’ve reshaped JAY Z and Kanye West‘s Ni***s In Paris into something akin to a ballad.

The juxtaposition of the lyrics and Sable’s airy and atmospheric production are pulled together with no problem by Mark John’s ability to commandeer the original track and completely flip the script. We’ve seen it before on a flip of Gatorade by Yung Lean, and JAY Z and Kanye’s blockbuster hit get the same treatment with similar and pleasing results. There’s plenty in store for Mark Johns, and she exhibits a star quality amongst the impressive roster of producers she has supporting her. She’s not messing around with In Paris, and you won’t want to miss out what she is going to do next.
