[Event Preview/Ticket Giveaway] Cloak & Dagger Music Festival – Denver, CO – 9/20

It seems within recent years the Mile High City of Denver, CO has been blessed with an abundance of incredible live music; especially larger scale offerings. So, when we heard our good friends at TheHundred Presents had put together one of the most eclectic and multifarious festival lineups we’d ever seen, we knew we had to get our Ninjas involved. On September 20th, The Cloak & Dagger Music Festival brings a wealth of underground dance talent, including Cashmere Cat, Holy Ghost!, Justin Martin, Thomas Jack, Kidnap KidMartyn, Midland, Moon Boots, Gigamesh, Sango, Pomo, Homework, Golf Clap, Graff as well as a few more lesser known acts championed by TMN in the past including Need & Necessity, Keepers. and Action 52 all in the span of one day. Well with the one day mega event just one business week away from becoming a reality, we wanted to extend our hands and invite our Ninja friends in Colorado (or anyone else who wants to make the trek to Denver for that matter) to try and win a pair of free tickets. As with every one of our contests, entering is streamlined and simple for you savvy readers.  Simply follow these steps below and CHECK YOUR EMAIL. We will draw a winner on Friday, Sept 19th (one day before festival). If you don’t respond in two hours, we’ll go to the next person. You snooze, you lose.

There are a few rules, of course:
– You must be 18 or over to enter.
– You are responsible for transportation.
– You must bring a valid form of ID to pick up your tickets at will call.
-You ABSOLUTELY MUST come correct with your hottest dance moves and put them on display the entire day on behalf of The Music Ninja

In anticipation of what seems like a lineup curated just for some of our dance-head Ninja readers, we’ve also put together a nifty little playlist featuring the artists we’re most excited to see at Cloak & Dagger to get us focused up on the long Saturday ahead. Why not let this playlist soundtrack your day, and we’ll see you soon!

[Disco] Tobtek ft. Emil Heró – Higher (Avenue Remix)

Tobtok ft. Emil Heró
Higher (Avenue Remix)

This past July, we sat down with Tobtek for an interview and a sweet Summer Mix. After learning more about this Swedish DJ/producer, we could not get enough of his incredible song, “Higher” featuring Emil Heró. One of our TMN regulars, Avenue, decided to take us on a groovy detour in his latest remix of “Higher”, in which he sends us soaring into the clouds. Filled with atmospheric reverberated vocals, some spine-tingling synth stabs and a funky, feel good vibe, Avenue takes us higher than we could ever imagine. We guarantee you’ll have this on repeat all afternoon, so make sure to turn the volume to full blast and go get your dancin’ map out – we can’t afford to lose you down this avenue.

[Groovy] The Knocks – Classic (feat. Powers)

The Knocks
Classic (feat. Powers)

We deserve to wear the cone of shame with this one, ninjas. How could we possibly let the #1 song of the year from one of our most favorite artists of all time just slide right through the cracks? Last month, The Knocks teamed up with Powers and unleashed some shimmery love in their new original, “Classic”. Easily one of the greatest songs to have permeated the overly-saturated layers found in commercial dance music, “Classic” delivers with some refreshing Summery vibes to help us keep the streak going a little bit longer. With its neon disco resonance, an addictive guitar melody, and some sweet, sweet energies from Powers, The Knocks give us more the reason to make those endless days of Summer love that much more timeless.

It was a summer time, that summer high
Oh what a masterpiece
The way your eyes met mine, sweet
Like apple pie, caught in your energy
The future came to me, I see

We’re not lying when we say this song might have won the year for us (specifically this ninja, though) and our shameless number of plays can reveal so much more about how much we dig what these cats have evolved into. If you haven’t heard this song, then you’re in luck because you may or may not want to go get yourself a funky guitar, a slice of apple pie, and a sweet young thing to share those classic moments with. Support The Knocks by purchasing a copy of “Classic feat. Powers” on iTunes today – trust us – this is worth the $1.29.

Portland : ME

Gotta love it when musicians just can’t keep away from making music.

Written on their drive from Providence, RI to Portlane, ME, Brooklyn-based quartet Body Language have dialed up a tasty little treat for your Friday evening. With a supremely dancable beat, some disco-style synths, and some bodacious, soulful original vocals, “Portland: ME” glows with both authentic nostalgia and new-school appeal.

While this beauty isn’t available for a download at this time, feel free to jam it here on TMN or on their Soundcloud.

[Sea Disco] book club – Young Man At The Sea (Original)

YMATS

This ninja might be in a Disco kind of groove today because there seems to be a common theme with the amount of funky hits we’ve posted today…or maybe it’s just a sign that it’s Friday and we’re ready to rip our work clothes off and get all fancy for the night. We’ve got a fun new tune from an unfamiliar artist around here who calls himself/herself, Book Club. With only one song to show, Book Club introduces us to a new side of Disco in which this style exudes the type of elements one would expect to hear underwater. With some funky Chromeo-style vocal chops, some incredibly fancy sounding synths, and a catchy melody, “Young Man At The Sea” keeps us afloat in this sea disco hit. Considering this is the only information we have on Book Club, we can only hope that this person continues to  take this new sound to an entirely new level of production.

[Disco Soul] ETML – Too Late (Original)

ETML
TOO LATE

With nearly 4 million hits and having reached #1 on Billboard for his latest work with Bassment Jaxx, one can say that ETML will “Never Say Never” to the endless opportunities ahead of him. The 19-year-old clearly has a voice that will take him to the top and his incredible track record is numerical proof that he’s going to be alright in life. Now that things have somewhat calmed down since “Never Say Never”, ETML is back with a new original, Too Late”, in which he drops an unexpected disco ball on us. Taking us to funky town, ETML introduces us to an entirely new soulful side to Disco with a whole lot of funky bass, a head bobbin’ beat, and his own sassy attitude in his soulful vocals. Overall, this old soul is far beyond his years and ‘Too Late’ gives us those classic Disco elements tied in with a hint of 90’s sounds and a lyrically empowering vocal to top it all off. After listening to this song at least 10 time through, it’s safe to say that we enjoy this track more than we enjoy breathing.
