Somebody (Avenue Remix)
It’s hard not to fall in love with Hannah Georgas’ subdued, sultry and emotional tune “Somebody.” With a understated pop structure reminiscent of other notable indie acts like The Whitest Boy Alive, Oh Land and Feist, there’s an undeniable charm that commands you to listen and get lost.
It’s hard to get into a remix when you’re enamored with the original. There’s always a brief moment of anxiety where you say, “did they ruin it?” If you’re asking that question right now, we can assure you that Toronto-based Avenue has done this track up proper. Once you press play, any feelings of anxiety will melt into cool, groovy disco.
Adding a nice, danceable tempo, some 70’s style synths and bassline, “Somebody” maintains it’s lovelorn message and initial appeal, yet takes on a whole new form. Transformations like this are hard to do, but we’ve come to expect nothing less from this newcomer. Case in point: their remix of Tears for Fears’ “Shout,” which recently climbed the ranks of the Hype Machine, gaining that coveted number 1 spot.
Keep your eyes on both Hannah Georgas and Avenue, as they’re both artists that you’re sure to hear more of as the years roll on.
