[NEW] Pharrell – Gust of Wind (Feat. Daft Punk)

Pharrell
Gust of Wind (Feat. Daft Punk)

When the tracklist for G I R L was first announced, we knew right away that there was one track that we absolutely needed to hear. With the album stream for Pharrell‘s latest album going up last night, we also figured it wouldn’t be long before that particular song would surface to the net. After teaming up for two spectacular singles on Random Access Memories, Daft Punk and the ageless wonder that we know as Pharrell are aiming to see if they can “Get Lucky” (see what we did there?) with a third team-up on “Gust of Wind.” Unsurprisingly, the trio have struck gold once again, with a groovy, disco-infused number that’ll have you tapping your toes the instant the beat kicks in. Take a listen to the addicting tune above, and be sure to get your pre-orders in for G I R L as soon as possible.

[Funky] Big Boi – Objectum Shalamar (Feat. Phantogram)

Big Boi feat. Phantogram
Objectum Shalamar

While a new album from Outkast seems like nothing more than a pipe dream at this point, we can at least count on Big Boi to always deliver some quality material. For the fifth installment of his “Mashup Mondays” series, Sir Lucious Left Foot brings back the funk, with an 80’s inspired remix that blends the disco stylings of Shalamar‘s “A Night To Remember” with the Phantogram assisted single, “Objectum Sexuality.” The end result is a groovy revamp that may even trump the original. We’d even go so far as to say that this remix–along with its equally impressive visuals–is the best in the series so far. We’ve still got more four more entries to go though, before we can make a full judgment on that.

[Indie-Dance/House] Dr. Dre – Forgot About Dre (The Golden Pony Remix)

Dr. Dre
Forgot About Dre (The Golden Pony Remix)

The Golden Pony have brought their afro driven deep-disco flair to The Chronic: 2001‘s “Forgot About Dre” and it’s been stuck on a permanent loop in this writer’s TMN cubicle. Paying homage to their classic influence has been the modus operandi for The Golden Pony’s remix choices lately as we’ve seen them take on Simon & Garfunkel, Tears For Fears and Daft Punk to reference a few, but our first exposure to them tackling the world of hip-hop has in our eyes been our most revered entry into the TGP production catalog. Taking its shape behind a pitched down vocal hook from the original chorus and an almost progressive-house meets indie-dance bass line and pad selection, their remix wonderfully accentuates Dre’s timeless verses. We’ve seen some admirable stabs at remixing Dr. Dre for the dance hall but no one has yet harnessed that gangster shine within a straight four-four house track in such a groovy manner until now. If your head is bobbing as unconsciously as ours and The Golden Pony’s remix of “Forgot About Dre” just has to be in your music player’s library then you’re in luck. This one is being given away as a free download, so grab it in exchange for a Facebook “like” here.

[TMN Premiere] option4, Need & Necessity – We Comin’ Up (Original Mix)

option4, Need & Necessity
We Comin' Up

When Denver’s electronic scene is usually thought of, visions of grand scale EDM events at Red Rocks or larger than life dubstep drops may immediately permeate the forefront of your opinions, but thanks to amazing musical contributions from artists like option4 and Need & Necessity, the city has begun developing an insatiable taste for deep, soulful house music. While we’ve separately had the opportunity to feature these two respective dance-floor slayers, today we had the felicitous task of premiering their first collaboration on ascending house label Night Supply, “We Comin’ Up”, and we knew right away this one needed to be shared with you Ninjas. Both parties’ deft comprehension of house production are felt immediately with a scooting hi-hat and bouncy kick leading into the tune’s first break. Before we knew it, a hypnotic synth line was fueling an ample vocal sample into the frontrunner and by the time we realized the pitched down reverberation of “I’m Comin’ Up” was flawlessly pulled from a P!nk sample, we were fully enveloped, jacking our hips unconsciously along. Finally, it is the gripping bass line which implants a real dose of bounce within the track while simultaneously adding another layer of pop accessibility which will no doubt appeal to fans from all walks of listening life. Expect this one to storm house clubs very soon, but don’t be surprised by its shapeshifting ability when you’re just grooving to it either; especially as it’s being given away as a free download here. Stream option4 and Need & Necessity’s “We Comin’ Up” above, and maybe start thinking about the dance hall a little early this week.

ZHU Does An ‘OutKast’ Cover, And It’s The Sexiest Thing You’ll Hear All Day

Moves Like Ms Jackson.

This Disclosure-esque remix that combines 4 classic OutKast anthems, has got everyone here at TMN wondering who is behind this glorious track titled “Moves Like Ms. Jackson”. It showed up in our inbox last night, and we have no idea who the artist is, whether it’s an A-List artist like Disclosure, or just an up-comer that clearly gets it. The artist recreates covers the classic tracks: “The Way You Move,” “So Fresh, So Clean,” “Ms. Jackson,” and “The Whole World,” and blends it perfectly with some flawless bass lines and mind blowing synth work. By the end of this track you’ll most likely have a margarita in hand and be surrounded by gorgeous naked women…if you play your cards right. Cheers.

[House] Chromeo ft. Toro Y Moi – Come Alive (Le Youth Remix)

Chromeo
Come Alive (Le Youth Remix)

There’s absolutely no denying the immense pop power of Chromeo and Toro Y Moi‘s latest collusion “Come Alive”, which is without a doubt one of the catchiest and alluring tunes in everyone’s stream of consciousness at the moment, and to think any more energy could be symbiotically added on top was pretty far fetched before today. Enter Le Youth. The enigmatic L.A. based House and Nu-Disco producer – who by the way throws down some of the funnest live sets going on in the house clubs right now – impels a heavy dose of vigorous hi-hat shuffle, and four-four kick to bring both Dave1 and Chaz Bundick’s unmistakable vocals straight into the dance hall. Our real sense of enjoyment on Le Youth’s remix however was an impeccable employment of that tried and true classic house piano a la Marshall Jefferson that was made so famous all the way back in ’86, giving off a vibrant shine while adding another layer of depth to the entire movement. It’s early, but we assume more producers will take a crack at reassembling “Come Alive”, but for us right now, Le Youth takes the cake.

PELUSSJE – Salsoul and West End Remixed Vol 5 [TMN PREMIERE]

If you haven’t been paying attention, the 70’s are alive and well in the dance community. While disco house has been around for a long time, it seemingly coming to the forefront of the blogosphere with Daft Punk’s long-awaited album. These sounds have now infiltrated into the mainstream, flooding speakers and headphones of music lovers everywhere. There are so many interpretations of disco these days, from toned back chill-wave to huge 808-laden trap tunes and Italian producer duo, PELUSSJE , are premiering three more tracks with us today and gracing all of our ears with their eloquent style of production.

Kicking off this EP (out on Ultra Records), we’d like to start by talking about the multi-decade inspired trap tune, “Ride on Time.” Fusing the vocals from renown 70’s vocalist, Loleatta Holloway, this tune transcends time by infusing those disco vocals with 90’s style pop, only to come back full circle into 2014 with a ferocious trap backdrop. The 90’s sound instantly calls on associations of other tunes bearing her samples, including “Good Vibrations,” which, of course, came from Mark Wahlberg before he was Mark Wahlberg.

Next up in this tip-of-the-cap to 70’s dance inspirations is another nod to Loleatta Holloway, using the tune “Salsoul Nugget (If You Wanna)”, released by British duo M&S, as part of their musical project The Girl Next Door. Utilizing the vocals from the ever-so-sampled Holloway, this tune brandishes samples from her tune “Hit and Run,” as well as ones from Double Exposure‘s song “Everyman.” It’s a wildly unpredictable interpretation, in all the best ways, fusing banging-hard electro house beats with disco guitar riffs worthy of any spinning disco ball.

Rounding it all out is a tune we posted just last week, “Love is You,” which has a bouncy, groovy and refreshing feeling. The synths flirt effortlessly with the groovy Boogie Nights-esque bassline, spun up with some modern hard house flair.

As a whole, this EP is a far departure from anything ordinary marrying modern sounds with older nostalgic elements. The production is top notch and comes across very genuine in its execution and the sampling makes each song that much more powerful with close attention to detail and a heavy dose of bounce. We can confidently predict that these tracks will serve as a catalyst to light up any dance floor and we are excited for what is to come from PELUSSJE in the future.
