[Chill-House] Kyla La Grange – Cut Your Teeth (Kygo Remix)

Kyla La Grange
Cut Your Teeth (Kygo Remix)

Norwegian tropical and chill house producer Kygo has been an artist that in the beginning, we developed something of an innocent musical crush. Over the course of some stellar remixes our crush has developed into a full blown love affair, and this latest remix of Kyla La Grange’s “Cut Your Teeth” only pulls us deeper down the obsession tunnel. There is something infectious about the Kygo sound, as he continually displays an innate ability to turn a hook into a full blown groove for the entire tune. Again keeping up with a true hit making formula, Kygo sticks to his guns with the employment of a distinct pan-flute melody over uplifting piano stabs and a bouncy beat. And oh, how beautiful Kyla La Grange’s sticky hot reverberations sound in harmony with such a lovely production style. Apparently we are not alone in our sentiments as Kygo has reached over 100,000 fans on Facebook as well as selling out a first ever live performance in Paris, leading to another free giveaway to those committed legions of fans. [House] Tensnake – Love Sublime (Duke Dumont Remix)

Tensnake
Love Sublime (Duke Dumont Remix)

As German disco and house producer Tensnake readies a debut LP, Glow, set for a March 3 release, he’s teased legions of fans by dropping a few singles including “Love Sublime”; the latest jewel off of the impending album. U.K. house superstar Duke Dumont, who is coming off of one of the strongest 2013’s of any artist, has taken Tensnake’s brand of  downtempo Nu-Disco and turned “Love Sublime” into a dance floor smasher. Whereas the original radiates a sunny disposition, Dumont pumps the right amount of murkiness onto the tune while simultaneously gearing it straight towards a peak hour crowd. Stabbing piano chords overlay a punchy drum kick groove while the vocal plays out much more expansive and intimidating than on Tensnake’s original, creating a feeling only the Duke could mold a previous track into. This one is definitely worth a listen this Thursday for our dance fans, check it out above.

[Deep-House] option4 – Love Like No Other/Black Cats EP

After coming off of two slightly more accessible, pop-infused remixes over the past few months, both of which went on something of a viral run, option4 is back to his soulful, deep and banging ways with a debut release on the digital only outlet for one of the most sought after and respected house labels, Nurvous Records. The Love Like No Other/Black Cats EP wholeheartedly establishes itself right off the bat with what is safe to say should be the golden standard of option4’s production skill “Love Like No Other”. Featuring Ethan Converse of Denver’s brooding synth-pop group FLASH/LIGHTS on vocals, the tune commences within the same formula as most house cuts – behind a 16 bar intro built on a shuffling percussion, four to the floor rhythm, deep swells and a spacy layer of pads – and plays its way groovily through the opening half. The real beauty lies after the harpsichord heightened break on “Love Like No Other”, as option4 flips the track on its head with one of the most infectious house breakdowns we’ve heard in God knows how long, as he seamlessly lets a new hook carry its listener all the way to the finish line. We had the chance to hear this one played out live a few times as the Denver based producer recently opened for Rusko at The Fillmore in Denver and Moby at the Belly Up in Aspen, and all we could think was “What is this track?!” Thankfully the fine A&R department in NYC with Nurvous Records saw fit to present the rest of the world with a full release, so we can all rest easy.

“Black Cats”, the EP’s B-Side is a little more of a throwback to the original classic house from the late 80’s which so heavily influences the option4 sound. Featuring a chopped, spliced and reprocessed vocal in which it has become increasingly clear only he can do, “Black Cats” takes us to the middle of a true house dancefloor with support from a superbly crafted bass line and articulated kick-clap. Both singles are available for purchase on Beatport here, and if they had you bouncing half as hard as us, then without equivocation we recommend you pick up both tracks. [House] Worthy – Get It

Worthy
Get It

San Francisco bounce-house purveyor Worthy got our day going the right way with the release of his first original of the New Year and a free download at that, “Get It”. With a steady stream of animated remixes and edits behind him to close out 2013, “Get It” stays in line with that frenetic and energetic booty-tech sound he and his Dirtybird label mates have become the face for; hopefully also signaling more tunes to come such as this in 2014. The vocal track on “Get It” is steeped in the right amount of hollowy reverb and spliced ever so perfectly behind a pounding four-to-the-floor pattern, placing the choppy vocal hook on a repeating loop in your head if you give into it in the slightest. Worthy’s unique fusion of house, techno and straight up twerk inducing rhythms has been a sound for which we have been utterly bananas over, and we couldn’t wait to share this one with you as soon as it dropped. Grab the free download of “Get It” here in exchange for a measly Facebook like, or just stream above.

[House] Kwabs – Wrong or Right (Ben Pearce Remix)

Mixmag
Premiere: Kwabs 'Wrong Or Right' (Ben Pearce remix)

London soul singer Kwabs is surely beginning to see those waves from across the pond begin to touch the shores of the Americas. His latest single “Wrong Or Right” is getting all wrapped in a pretty little bow as we speak, for a February 3 EP release of the same name (which you can pre-order here) and while we no doubt have been grooving to all of Kwabs’ original tunes, it was when one of 2013’s hottest house exports Ben Pearce revealed his remix contribution to the album when we realized the full scope and range of his soulful refrain. Ben Pearce punctuates the vocal track with shimmering pads, stabby claps and a garage tipping, shuffling tempo, which all culminates into a sonically developed house production. We can only surmise and desire that this early 2014 release signals loads more to come from the English producer, but if you’re looking to cast a little bounce to your step today, then stream Ben Pearce’s remix above.

[French-House/Nu-Disco/Synth-Pop] Vallès – St. Lucia EP

Vallès, a 21 year old French House savant working out of Ibiza, was the latest apple of TMN’s eye, largely behind the release of perhaps one of the most musically mature and texturized pop-leaning debuts we had had the chance to wrap our ears around in some time, with his St. Lucia EP.  St. Lucia is the first collection of originals from the young disco maestro, but a knack for funky high-energy samples paired with toned down, groovy bass lines has already blueprinted his deft French Touch sound. St. Lucia functions closely within most of these parameters, leading off with the incredibly emotive pacesetter, “Heartbeat”, which clearly touches on Vallès’ cited influences of Daft Punk Discovery era 90’s French-House and the almighty 70’s funk wave in which held the distinguished spot as America’s leading dance genre at the time. St. Lucia‘s sophomore entry, the single for which the extended play was named, is a breezy synth-pop track, drenching its listener in neon, 80’s dance  tones. Once our complete psyche was enveloped by “Heartbeat” and “St. Lucia”, Vallès slows things up a bit to let the rest of the album breathe, utilizing the downtempo electronic backbone of “Farewell” to iron out the whole movement to a brisk stride. If we haven’t gushed enough already, just let us leave you with the fact that we absolutely believe that St. Lucia  is one of the most worthy individual electronic listening album efforts within the last five years.

Furthermore, as St. Lucia was released today via Neonized Records, we were gifted with three additional featured remixes from talented artists L’Étranger, and Cosmonaut Grechko, so there should be a little slice of Vallès appropriate for any number of eclectic ninja listeners. Listen to Vallès’ St. Lucia EP below.

[House] Elizabeth Rose – The Good Life (option4 Remix)

Elizabeth Rose
The Good Life (option4 Remix)

One of our absolute favorite, surging house producers in the entire game, option4just followed up his insanely successful remix for Brooklyn band Great Good Fine OK with another jovial slice of dance music; this time authoring up a pristine rework of Elizabeth Rose‘s buzzy synth-pop single “The Good Life”. Whereas option4 first began gaining traction with a deep brand of original R&B and pop tinged house tunes, his remix output has more or less revealed a bit of the producer’s softer, more accessible production side. option4’s revision of “The Good Life” is clearly  punctuated by an arpeggiated chord progression but is built behind airy pads and what has now become somewhat of a signature, with some very layered percussive stabs driving the while thing home. While option4’s original tracks aimed at the dancefloor are what piqued our original interest in the budding artist, this latest string of pensive remixes feels like we are catching the Denver based artist in a musical stride so to speak, and we absolutely had to share it with our ninjas. As with the rest of option4’s catalog thus far, his remix of “The Good Life” by Elizabeth Rose is being given away digitally in exchange for a Facebook “like” here. Pick it up, and get your Tuesday bouncing in the right direction.
