[Nu-Disco/Synth-Pop] The Golden Pony ft. Suntalk- Bonfire

The Golden Pony
Bonfire Feat. Suntalk

It’s been a little while since we checked in with one of our favorite tastemaking Deep Disco outfits, The Golden Pony, and in between their time hustling as some of NYC’s most influential electronic promoters, they’ve managed to issue a follow up to their debut original “Tiny Purple Fishes” with a house meets disco groover “Bonfire”. Featuring another NYC band Suntalk on vocals, “Bonfire” beautifully flits between the electronic indie dance output of camps like Future Classic and 4AD and straightforward nu-disko and house music structures. While TGP has made their name mostly by reaching into the remix cookie jar, their original tunes have been the hook which keeps us ninjas coming back for more. “Bonfire” paces itself briefly, starting off slow and steady, before bouncing in cheeky vocals and an appropriately addictive, simple bass line. This one pulled from us an immediate smile, and music which exhibits this quality has always been some of our favorite. Grab the free download here in exchange for a ‘heart’ on Hype Machine.

[Synth-Pop] AYER – Circle Down (Wize Remix)

AYER
Circle Down (Wize Remix) [Free Download]

AYER has been stirring up quite a bit of buzz for themselves as we transition into 2014, behind TMN featured singles “Young” and “Circle Down”, so it was only fitting that other talented producers got their hands on some of those AYER stems, and started reimagining their highly flexible dream-pop tunes to their own accord. The latest to join the AYER rework ranks is Parisian synth-pop purveyor Wize taking on “Circle Down”, who slows things down to a brisk stride from the original, rather relying on a four-to-the-floor percussive element and a minimal rework of the synthesizer to set his version into motion. Like all of AYER’s music, they’re giving away the Wize remix for free, and we believe it to be in your best interest to pick up a digital copy below.

[Nu-Disco/House] Peaches – Fuck The Pain Away (The Golden Pony Remix)

Peaches
Fuck The Pain Away (The Golden Pony Remix)

After penning their first original last month, our favorite NYC disco tastemakers The Golden Pony return to the pages of TMN with a slightly grimier than normal remix of every slurry drunken white girl’s favorite sing-along, Peaches’ “Fuck The Pain Away”. TGP flirts a little more closely with the deeper, indie dance spectrum this time around, employing a very pronounced kick-clap pattern and a pitched down Peaches vocal track which besides its inflection is kept pretty intact. The duo’s synth line also plays in symbiotic harmony to the addictive albeit general vulgarity of the classic vocal track, and who can resist belting out that time-honored, complex lyric loop when it’s played out? As with the majority of The Golden Pony tunes, you can cop this one as a free download above.

[Synth-Pop] St. Lucia – All Eyes On You (Goldroom Remix)

St. Lucia
All Eyes On You (Goldroom Remix)

The latest from Los Angeles’ Goldroom project is a shimmery retooling of St. Lucia‘s “All Eyes On You”, which was as an original, a vital piece of his debut LP When the Night. As  Josh Legg’s secluded bedroom-disco recording project has evolved into a complete live setup which can boast national and international tours, we’ve been privy to some pretty amazing originals and remixes along the way. September’s Embrace EP, their first in two years, simply put a smile on our faces and marked their place near the top of that nu-disco/pop/chill movement. Goldroom’s lush electronic execution which has seen the So-Cal troupe take on remix duties for the likes of Charli XCX and The Knocks in 2013, is well represented in this union with the New York producer, evoking an urge to make you move throughout. Some poppy synths have mingled into the rework, but heavy and sexy as ever is the saxophone breakdown. Trust us when we say this remix is absolutely worth 5 minutes of your time today.

[Chill] Ed Sheeran – I See Fire (Kygo Remix)

Ed Sheeran
I See Fire (Kygo Remix)

Fresh off of a viral tear on account of a gorgeous Marvin Gaye remix, Norwegian bred beatsmith Kygo has again struck a chord with us; this time taking Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire” (which will soon find itself included on the original soundtrack for The Hobbit sequel: The The Desolation of Smaug) on a charming harmonic ride. While only 22 years of age, Kygo has continuously demonstrated a musically mature knack for bridging slow moving soulful ballads full of acoustic elements, and sprinkling them with enough sugar and melody to create an unexpected dance groove. While the heart of Ed Sheeran’s track remains vocally, it is the use of those signature seductive Kygo keys, and warm pads which really pulls “I See Fire” out of its original state. This one is definitely worth your listen today, and fortunately for now all of Kygo’s catalog has been given away for free including this one. Don’t miss out on adding this one to your music libraries today.

[Deep-House/Nu-Disco] Dr. Fresch – Dr. Fresch EP

Over the course of the past few years, Los Angeles based Deep-House and Nu-Disco maestro Dr. Fresch has been churning out a proficient slate of remixes and originals, mainly through his own Prep School Recordings imprint, while simultaneously polishing up an already clear grasp on producing genre-bending dance music. Throughout his new extended-play, the only common theme was… well none really. Opening track “Dreamin” tows the line as the EP’s pure Deep-House testament with tinges of U.K. garage and disco lean; and was our favorite six minutes of the collection as far as having the versatility to be rinsed out in the club or just be aurally consumed in a dark room with a lava lamp. Backing up “Dreamin” is “Float”; perhaps the most uniquely playing tune of the bunch, which can’t quite be summed up into one genre, rather bringing phrases like ‘Big-Room, Deep-Disco’ and ‘Deep-EDM’ to mind. Powerful stuff really. Rounding it all out and dropping the jack back into the fold is “What You Need”, with its shuffling hi-hat and snappy snare kick glossed up with a very 90’s appropriated vocal and piano loop. Through just a short 21 minute jaunt, Dr. Fresch has shown off four completely different layers of his production standard, and has our interest absolutely piqued for what the future will bring to this music project.

After coming in hot recently on Billboard’s ‘Next Big Sound’ chart, yesterday marked the official release of Dr. Fresch’s self titled four-track EP; which was gifted as a basic quality free download on his Facebook page for the going rate of one “like” along with a the high quality files being available through most major music retailers. Check out the entire Dr. Fresch EP below and take it home (digitally of course) while you’re at it.
